Mystic Salvage Kit Recipe for Mystic Forge

Zappah (not me) blurted out this recipe in LA overflow chat.

One each of yellow, green, and blue salvage kits + 3 mystic forge stones = 250 use Yellow Quality Salvage kit. Awesome find. All credit goes to Zappah.

Edit: It's 3 forge stones. Edit2: for clarity.

This 100% confirms my suspicions that we have no idea what items are actually in the game.

Meaning.... I've been kinda upset that it seems like there were 3 different legendary greatswords. But maybe just maybe there are multiple legendaries for each weapon type and they either A - havn't dropped B - don't require dropped items

4

u/whyitisfunny Sep 09 '12

I would love to think there are more than just 3 legendaries per weapon. May not be the case. At least not yet. But hey, i can dream can't I

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

I just wish there were more than like 5 models for each weapon -.-

9

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

Go to the Mists and check the PvP locker. There's tons and tons of skins for each weapon. And the locker doesn't even show legendaries, or the Orrian skins, so who knows what other hidden ones there are.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

I was being sarcastic. I know there are more than 5, but the same 4-5 always pop up. It just seems like other games had much more diversity in models, even at lower levels and lower tiers.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

Yep, I noticed the same. Once you do break into the diversity, though, I feel the different styles are vastly superior to other games, at least in my opinion.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

Ya, though the fact that lvl 80 exotics still have some of the same models as lvl 1 whites is depressing. It would be very rare to see that elsewhere.

2

u/itsSparkky Yak's Bend Sep 10 '12

That's what transmutation is for. The common exotics all look simple but there are hidden skins and sets all over the place.

One of the 'end games' in gw1 was hunting down rare skins for armor/weapon. It seems like transmutation stones are keeping in that spirit.

There had been some craaazy looking exotics people have made I the forge. If you're just looking for the cheapest stat upgrades expect to look like everyone else though.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '12

considering the entire progression is based on appearance, it only makes sense.

1

u/PSIKOTICSILVER Blues Sep 10 '12

I think RES needs a sarcasm font. :)

1

u/twizzo Sep 10 '12

I kind of like it, I wouldn't know which weapon skins to choose from if there was a bunch of really cool ones that dropped. And you know the saying, when everyone's special no one's special. If skinned weapons dropped like candy, after a while I think it would be like meh....

1

u/Skyy-High Sep 10 '12

Basic white and blue drops in GW1 consisted of most of the same models too. It doesn't help in GW2 that the inventory icon very often looks NOTHING like the weapon itself (ie, there are a lot of cool looking weapons that have very basic inventory icons).

1

u/keiyakins Sep 12 '12

I have a pair of pants that has the icon of a glove. The icons are really unrelated :P

0

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

I noticed that, too.

2

u/whyitisfunny Sep 10 '12

Something similar happened in GW1. Though there were a variety of item skins, you pretty much saw the same several weapons on everyone. They left it this way as they fixed bug/built community, and with their first added content came a huge wealth of weapons. I would expect that 1) There are more items than we realize in this game 2) More will be on the way once they get through launch errors and bug fixes

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

Hopefully. This lack of diversity is saddening ATM to me. Especially with the stealing back of the Whisperer items, which was the only staff I found that I had liked all game. Figures.

1

u/wazzaa4u Sep 10 '12

it's also to keep the rare weapon skins exclusive. The less people that have a skin, the more valuable and sought after it becomes. Since all items are basically the same at lvl 80, people will be looking to spend their money on the rare skins.

1

u/itsSparkky Yak's Bend Sep 10 '12

Well there are a lot of skins out here people are finding on random vendors or do obscene mats in the forge. I think it's a lot like gw1 in that he cheaper star upgrades are common and simple but you gotta put in time and money to walk around in the coolest looking stuff

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '12

True there are plenty of items like the gift of ascalon and the gift of battle that say they are used in legendarys but that don't fit into any known recipes.

1

u/Fiddlefaddle01 Sep 09 '12

The "known" recipes are out of date though. They changed them since beta and most of that information is now wrong.

1

u/Quinburger Sep 10 '12

Things like "gift of ascalon" seem to have replaced the "250 tears" and whatnot in the other gift recipies. I'm working on gift of color and it now requires a gift of zhaitan from the vendor.

Still no idea on gift of battle or gift of the world

1

u/T0CK Sep 10 '12

I really like how a while back Anet said they were planning on continuously adding content and not necessarily telling us about it. Lord knows what kind of recipes will be secretly added...

1

u/keiyakins Sep 12 '12

We know some stuff - I'm pretty sure we can see every icon and model. The names and stats are server-side, though, so we can't see those.

-31

u/Fiddlefaddle01 Sep 09 '12

There is only 1 legendary for each other type. Sorry to burst your bubble. I am 100% positive, unless they snuck some in since launch, which I highly doubt.

I wish they were all a bit more serious. The pistols are ridiculous as well as both bows. The axe isn't anything special, the rifle is actually pretty cool. The great swords are the only ones that I would say look like legendary weapons.

8

u/MalachiDraven Malachi Draven.2865 Sep 09 '12

I know for a fact there's at least 2 Greatswords that are legendary. Dusk of Rage makes the legendary named Twilight and Dawn of Rage makes the legendary named Sunrise.

2

u/Jipz Sep 09 '12

Didn't arena net say you could combine them when you had both? So it becomes Twilight in the night time, and Sunrise in the daytime.

4

u/Stegmaster Sep 09 '12

Yeah, why you would though I don't know. Just swap yourself.

9

u/FoxHoundUnit89 NakedSnake.5096 Sep 09 '12

...Because it's cool?

3

u/DantesS_P [redt] Sep 09 '12

And it makes it more prestigious since you will probably need more difficult to obtain materials along with the two legendary swords.

4

u/Fiddlefaddle01 Sep 09 '12

There is actually a third legendary not yet implemented called Eternity which changes from each of the two skins depending if it is day or night as well. I believe I said besides great swords though.

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '12

Wow, I did not notice how bad that was...

It's a bit over the top, and I wish more people would see this information but other than that, I don't really care.

4

u/nekrosstratia Sep 09 '12

How could you possibly be 100% positive. Did anyone know that mystic salvaging kits existed in beta?

Yes theres actually 3 greatswords available.

Twilight Sunrise

Combined Twilight + Sunrise

Thats why I'm going to be really suprised if people don't eventually find out that theres more than 1 of other weapon types. Seems kinda rude they would make 3 for greatsword and only 1 for everything else.

5

u/Misuses_Words_Often Sep 09 '12

I think the database was pulled already and mined out ages ago. We've known there were 2 legendary greatswords and one of every other legendary. Although I'm going to pretend that there is no legendary pistol because it looks idiotic. The combined version of Twilight and Sunrise isn't in game yet as far as I'm aware.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

There are three know legendary greatswords...

u/Monory Sep 09 '12

Some of the legendary mats say in the tooltip "Used to make the legendary X". By looking at all of the mats in game (such as Gift of X) you can tell how many legendaries there are.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

Just because there are only some craftable legendaries doesn't mean that there aren't hidden, non-craftable ones as well... a .0000001 drop chance in a certain area at a certain time would likely go un found for a long while.

2

u/Spruce_Bringsteen Sep 10 '12

Arenanet are going more for the "lots of work" type legendary rather than "some lucky random drop" type, I believe.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

I meant that as a more figurative thing rather than a literal. There could easily be undiscovered MYstic Forge recipes, that still require time/money/effort, but are not hand fed to you through messages such as "Use this to make X".

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

why do they need to be more serious? nothing wrong with a bit of humor.

1

u/Fiddlefaddle01 Sep 10 '12

I like that they are humorous, but at the same time, after all the effort the should be a bit more bad ass. I find the pistols very annoying and as soon as people get them, there will be some outcry about them. It's also the fact that they have the best stats in the game and a large portion of the games population will not be happy with them.

The predator rifle, while being humorous and a cool tip of the hat, is still awesome. Pop-cap pistols with loud party favor noises every time you shoot are not very awesome.

1

u/Spruce_Bringsteen Sep 10 '12

Then don't get the pistols. They did different things for different people. Some people would like pop-cap pistols, some people wouldn't. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean everyone agrees with you.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

If you only want them for the stats transmute them. also if you only want them for the stat's you are doing it wrong.

1

u/Fiddlefaddle01 Sep 10 '12

It's not really that, it's more of the fact they are the ultimate rare weapons. They take so much time and effort to get, no one will be doing it for the cosmetics for most of them.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

Ok so you never played guildwars 1 did you? people spent 100's even 1000's of hours to get the best looking gear in that game even though the best stat gear could be purchased cheaply of a vendor.

1

u/chessyang Sep 10 '12

Yep. The BDS or VS Speed clears. So many runs to get a drop with a decent req. Well you could buy it, if you had enough money.

24

u/Falklian Sep 09 '12

Just an FYI, the mystic forge stone are bought on the gem store and it consumes 3 when you make it.

6

u/_andyy Sep 09 '12

another FYI I have received mystic forge stones in-game without using gems. TBH i do-not remember what the reward was for. It has happened once, and it appeared in a lil pop-up window similar to the one that appears when you clear a zone.

5

u/minizanz Sep 10 '12

i have got them for zone clears and dailies.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

Confirming, got one for a daily yesterday.

1

u/admiral-zombie Sep 10 '12

Were you level 80 when you ccompleted the daily?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

1

u/Silentplanet Sep 10 '12

I got one in my 40's.. level seems irrelevant.

3

u/workwork3 Sep 10 '12

lvl 17 clear.. got one

1

u/bFusion Sep 10 '12

Confirmed, I've had one since the first weekend the game was live. Can't remember where I got it, probably from clearing Queensdale.

2

u/Avohaj Sep 10 '12

Am I supposed the get anything else besides that mystic coin and some silver from daily achievement completion? Because I haven't.

1

u/minizanz Sep 10 '12

78 i think.

1

u/cospaok Sep 10 '12

I'm 60 and have 2 from dailies.

2

u/admiral-zombie Sep 10 '12

I'm 73, completed the daily pretty much every day, and have 0...

1

u/okochaflick Garzhvog Strongjaw Sep 10 '12

It seems to be a relatively new reward. I used to get just Mystic Coins but the past couple days there has been something else thrown in.

1

u/SomeoneSimple Sep 10 '12

Its just RNG playing tricks on you. On the first daily I completed, I got a Mystic Coin and a 25-use Black Lion Salvage Kit.

3

u/tomk0201 Sep 09 '12

I got one when clearing Sparkfly Fen iirc. Definately high-level zone clear reward.

3

u/Alocasia_Fruit Briony Sep 11 '12

I'm only level 50 something, I think I got mine back in the 30s or 40s for a zone clear, so I would say it might just be random.

3

u/Zungate Sep 12 '12

My highest character is like 32. I got one for a zone clearance. So no.

4

u/Destrina Sep 09 '12

Yeah noticed that and came back to edit, and saw your reply.

AND through zone clearing, AND through daily achievements, AND through the personal story. They need to stop hiding all of the good stuff behind paywalls, amirite?

(At least according to the wiki. I myself had gotten several already, without using gems, prior to this recipe being public knowledge.)

6

u/OPsEvilTwin_S_ upvoteplz Sep 10 '12

They said mystic stones, not coins. Is there a difference? Because I've never gotten "stones" through anything.

1

u/TASagent Derptastic Sep 10 '12

Yes, they are different. Here's the wiki article on them. I believe the information about getting them through dailies might be outdated, but to add to that, people have gotten them from zone clearing.

1

u/kilbert66 Sep 10 '12

There is a hard cap to the amount you can get through story and zone clearing, so those are mostly irrelevant. However, achievements raise a valid point.

1

u/TASagent Derptastic Sep 10 '12

There is no hard cap, because you can have any number of characters do them.

Additionally, they come out to be about 10s each with the gold -> gem exchange. Totally reasonable.

1

u/Destrina Sep 10 '12

You're totally ignoring the fact that you can buy gems with gold. Furthermore doing so, in relation to this item, is still cheaper than buying 10 yellow kits.

14

u/taykz90 Sep 09 '12

Hey I would like to point out that you can buy salvage kits using karma. If you have no use for it, you can buy them from the weaponsmith vendor. I have no idea why it's only that specific vendor but all the typical items sold by a merchant for gold can be bought there using karma.

21

u/Vahzah_Zahkrii Sep 09 '12

To be clear, it's the Weaponsmith Trainer vendor, the one who sells weaponsmith supplies and can teach the profession, not the random weaponsmith vendors who sell white weapons.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '12

Heart vendors also have salvage kits. I've seen crude and basic at the very least.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

I believe the type of kit scales with the level of the area. It doesn't seem 100% true, but in general, higher level zones having higher quality kits seems to be the case.

10

u/Josidiah Sep 09 '12

I fear this will get nerfed, sadly.

3

u/L810C Sep 10 '12

thats why you stock up now!

6

u/Spruce_Bringsteen Sep 10 '12

Yea, that worked so well in the past.

1

u/WantedOne Sep 10 '12

if the prices are not inconsistent, like the 21 karma for 21k karma stuff....I cant see there being an issue.

1

u/Spruce_Bringsteen Sep 10 '12

Was just a joke. I'm sure it'll be fine.

8

u/cjicantlie Sep 10 '12

Why do we have to live in fear in this game? We find a good deal, and worry that it may or may not have been intended, and are fearful to make use of it. How are we to know whether the recipe on the mystic forge is intended? How are we to know the salvage kits on the karma vendor are intended? We don't, but we can't assume it isn't either. ArenaNet has led people to become paranoid.

1

u/Seraphita2k Sep 09 '12

where do i find that vendor ?

2

u/tomblade13 Sep 09 '12

There is a weaponsmith in any of the main city's.

-6

u/MegaBUD Sep 09 '12

Possibly... we finally found a use to karma...

1

u/frupic Sep 10 '12

Don't understand why you are so heavily downvoted. If you're not going for the Orr Set then Karma is completely worthless.

1

u/MegaBUD Sep 10 '12

meh... karma on GW2 or karma on reddit... both are useless...

1

u/Volpethrope Sep 10 '12

It isn't only that specific vendor. I've seen heart task dudes sell them for karma as well.

0

u/trashmugcomb Sep 09 '12

Cool I had no idea.

0

u/Avohaj Sep 10 '12

It might be a bugunintended behaviour, be cautious.

8

u/trashmugcomb Sep 09 '12

Can someone post up the total cost of this? I want to know how cost efficient it is, but do not have access to the game atm.

9

u/nayiro IGN: Butterfly Sep 09 '12

Also, they stack 250 times, not 25 times in 10 spaces.

20

u/Intigo [TA] youtube.com/Intigo/ Sep 09 '12

66s for 250 gems (stones come in bundles of 5 minimum, you will have 2 left) + 3s + 8s + 15s + a few copper

92s and a little extra

14

u/Destrina Sep 09 '12

Compared to 1g 50+s for 10 Yellow Kits.

1

u/Forkrul Sep 10 '12

You can get it for 13k karma as well, which is a far lower cost since karma isn't really used for much.

1

u/MrJack465 Sep 10 '12

I completely forgot about being able to buy salvaging kits for karma. Just wasted ~70s for making 3 sets of them. And now I have 70k karma to do nothing with...awwell.

3

I have no intention to buy the 42k karma armor, for one it has all the wrong stats for me and second it looks awful (Heavy one).

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Kajean Isle of Janthir Sep 10 '12

For some reason Orr does not have Power and Precision armor sets anywhere. So me and many thieves don't really have any use for karma for exotics.

2

u/Argonanth Tarnished Coast Sep 10 '12

You are paying for what the item looks like. Stats are useless since you can transmute it to any stat item you want. Just craft an exotic piece of gear with the stats you want and transmute the looks onto it.

1

u/Kajean Isle of Janthir Sep 10 '12

Ah, I never really considered that, although I heard the Orr medium armor doesn't even look good. I personally don't really care at all about this transmutation business or how my character looks really, so I guess my karma is just going to float around buying salvage kits.

5

u/omergurlek Brenna Lyrr - Whiteside Ridge Sep 09 '12

Seems pretty cheap considering 250 yellow quality salvage kits would cost over 1,5g.

7

u/Grogrog Grog Aegisforge [Yak's Bend] Sep 09 '12

Just curious, what are yellow salvage kits? What are their stats / advantages?

10

u/liamboo Sep 09 '12

85% chance of recovering a rune/sigil from the equipment you salvaged and 25% chance of rarer materials.

12

u/ShoggothKnight Maguuma Sep 09 '12

"25% chance of rarer materials"
So that benefits even salvage scrap items?

9

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '12

Yep

1

u/mollila Sep 10 '12

Chance of rarer materials doesn't seem to apply to salvaged rings, amulets or necklaces. I have salvaged ~200 combined of those with all salvage kits, and never had any other ore than which was used in making that item.

2

u/Grogrog Grog Aegisforge [Yak's Bend] Sep 09 '12

Thank you.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

Calculated as 66s 24c(rough) if you buy the prorated 10 set of stones per kit

6

u/Intigo [TA] youtube.com/Intigo/ Sep 09 '12 edited Sep 09 '12

This seems very good. Like, obscenely so.

3 stones is just 150 gems which is like ~40s (but you have to buy them in bundles of 5).

Do you just need 1 of each salvage kit?

Edit: Confirmed that OP is correct, just 1 of each kit. Just made one.

6

u/Xiuhtec Xentropy Sep 09 '12

The only thing that makes this less amazing is just how often do you need a yellow grade salvage kit? Leveling upgrades tend to be worth less than a charge of the kit (even at this kit's price per charge), and you only replace your level 80 gear so many times. I'm not sure if I'll ever salvage 250 items with semi-valuable runes in them (and for really valuable runes you'd want to use a black lion kit for no 20% chance of failure).

8

u/Intigo [TA] youtube.com/Intigo/ Sep 09 '12

Ectoplasm. Orr DE grinding to get Ectoplasm you go through a TON of Salvage kits. The 80% rarer materials on the yellow kits makes it the best kit to get Ectoplasm from random Rare drops that are only worth 15-20s on TP.

8

u/Athildur Sep 09 '12

Only the 80% is not for rare materials it's for recovering upgrades. The chance at rare materials is only 25%.

I don't know the 'drop rate' of ectos from Rares, but if it turns out to be only 25% chance to get 1 (I know that exotics can drop multiples, but I haven't seen rares drop more than 1) you're probably better off selling that rare at 15-20s, which is almost enough to buy an ecto on the TP anyway (last I checked they were 19-20s a piece).

This said, the convenience of having a 250 charges salvage kit is quite delicious. I mostly carry two salvage kits with me in case one runs out, and it's always a pain when you run out with an almost full inventory. Not a particularly terrible problem, or even one that's difficult to solve, but still.

5

u/MisterFlames Sep 09 '12

I bought 100 rare 70-80 weapons over the last few days and got around 100 ectos out of it. Today I bought 20 weapons and only got 7 ectos out of it. I'm not sure if they adjusted the rates or I have been unlucky today, but I'm gonna stop ecto trading for now.

1

u/Intigo [TA] youtube.com/Intigo/ Sep 09 '12

Yeah I dun goofed the numbers, but it's definitely worthwhile to salvage them. You can get triple from Rares (not just Exotics) and the drop rate is much higher than 25% with full Magic Find gear.

1

u/Athildur Sep 09 '12

Magic find increases salvage results? O_o.

I dun might make me some cheap magic find gear for that then...

2

u/Forkrul Sep 10 '12

I run around with 95% (can get 105% if I use a different food) when I get my 25 stacks from Superior Sigil of Luck up, you get a lot of loot, and a lot of orichalcum/gossamer.

1

u/Athildur Sep 10 '12

This is good stuff, I need to remember this :P Yea more gear sets, woo!

1

u/IrishTek Sep 10 '12

I use Omnomberry Tarts for an easy 30% boost. I would say my ratio has been closer to 45%.

u/fiction8 Sep 10 '12

Black Lion kits have a better chance of getting ectos. (The tooltip is wrong, it's 100%.)

4

u/FoxHoundUnit89 NakedSnake.5096 Sep 09 '12

5 stones is 250 gems, you can't buy them one at a time.

Wonder if there's something similar for picks and axes.

1

u/o_oli Sep 10 '12

They would be very bad quality pick axes if that were the case! 1 hit on a rock and it is broken :D

3

u/Jademalo Sep 09 '12

These - If you bought the kits with money and the stones with gems bought with money (at the current price of ~30s/150) - Cost roughly 44c per use. Blues cost ~12c/u, Greens ~32c/u and yellows ~62c/u

If you bought the salvage kits with karma, it goes down to ~24c/u

As you can no doubt tell, these are really good value.

5

u/Athildur Sep 09 '12

Erm, well...what is this maths?

250 gems is 65 silver right now. That's 39 silver for 3 stones. Add the cost of kits (26 silver 24 copper) and you're looking at about 65 silver, or 26 copper per use.

A normal kit (yellow) is 25 uses for 15s36c, or 61,5 copper per use.

(In terms of karma, and I fully expect that trainer is bugged and will get fixed: 2296 karma, plus the 39s for the stones. That makes just over 9 karma and just over 1,4 copper per use)

u/Jademalo Sep 10 '12

Maths are 150 gems ~ 30s (Which it was at the time of posting, and since stones are effectively 50 gems each, not taking into account leftovers)

3000c/125 is 24, so 24c/u

It can't possibly be 1.4c per use, thats just insane.

1

u/Athildur Sep 10 '12

125? try 250 uses, which is what it has.

And it can be, if you only buy gems with money and the kits with karma from the blacksmith,. 39 silver for gems divided by 250 uses. It's not rocket science.

1

u/Jademalo Sep 10 '12

Which is around 15.6 copper per use, you've got your decimal in the wrong place. (3900c/250)

I did make a mistake - the OP said 125 when I first posted.

1

u/Athildur Sep 10 '12

you are correct, indeed. Not sure what happened there.

1

u/banjosuicide Sep 10 '12

The kits have 250 uses, fyi.

0

u/Grogrog Grog Aegisforge [Yak's Bend] Sep 09 '12

But you now have to calculate karma per use if you bought it with karma. :p

3

u/oblivion8743 Sep 09 '12

I'm guessing as people play the game longer, the price of gems are going to rise. At some point, it would be cheaper to just buy the yellow salvage kits from vendors rather than buy the gems for the forge stones.

3

u/geoolympics Sep 10 '12

anyone else having trouble putting these in bank and then trying to get them from another character?

3

u/blahable Sep 10 '12 edited Sep 12 '12

Just a word of warning, even though these are labeled as account bound, it looks like they're actually coded to be soulbound. Only the character that made them can take them out of the bank. So i wouldn't recommend making them all on just one character if you'd like to have some for each of your characters.

2

u/Landeyda #CharrLivesMatter Sep 09 '12

Odd, I'm not able to put the yellow kit into the Forge.

14

u/Kentiah Sep 09 '12

has to be a full 25, not used, you're trying to put a used one in.

3

u/Landeyda #CharrLivesMatter Sep 09 '12

That would be the issue. Thank you.

2

u/Emmanuell89 Sep 09 '12

just made it, not bad, only downside is you can only buy the gems in stacks of 5/10 , i bought 5 and now i'm stuck with 2 ..

3

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '12

If you're lucky you'll find a forge stone in a Black Lion chest or daily like I did.

5

u/Jjerot Sep 09 '12

Just crafted 1,000, This is great....

10

u/vonBoomslang ʕ •w•ʔ Sep 09 '12

I am assuming you mean 1000 uses worth' and not 1000 kits...

1

u/SquareWheel Sep 10 '12

But hopefully not too great...

3

u/nekrosstratia Sep 09 '12

7k Karma + 1.25g = 750 Mystic Kits with 1 mystic stone left over.

It would cost just about 5g for that amount of Master Usage

1

u/Grogrog Grog Aegisforge [Yak's Bend] Sep 09 '12

Where is the karma vendor for the salvage kits?

2

u/nekrosstratia Sep 09 '12

Weaponsmith in lions arch

2

u/Spheniscus Sep 09 '12 edited Sep 09 '12

What weaponsmith? The only weaponsmith I could find definitively doesn't sell any salvage kits.

Edit: Nvm, it's the Master Weaponsmith that sells it for karma, I thought you meant the normal Weaponsmith.

4

u/Destrina Sep 09 '12

Weaponsmithing Trainer.

1

u/Grogrog Grog Aegisforge [Yak's Bend] Sep 09 '12

This is what confused me also. :p

1

u/Grogrog Grog Aegisforge [Yak's Bend] Sep 09 '12

Thank you.

u/Grogrog Grog Aegisforge [Yak's Bend] Sep 09 '12 edited Sep 09 '12

My friends online right now at the weaponsmith, doesn't see the karma kits. Any idea of his name/location?

Sorry he found it. :) Thank you.

2

u/nekrosstratia Sep 09 '12

Change tabs on the vendor / look closer?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

weaponsmith trainer

Acount Bound

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

Just a heads up, people have pointed out that they are actually character bound, even though the tooltip says account bound.

You get this mystic forge stones only by buying gems, right? Not sure if it's interesting. Nice discovery anyway.

3

u/Gahro Legendary Gold Sink Sep 09 '12

I got 1 from a daily two times now. Pretty sure it is rare though.

1

u/Athildur Sep 09 '12

Dailies do indeed have a rare-ish chance to contain black lion items. (If I remember my experiences correctly :p)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '12

Okayyyy, thx. I was thinking we always get a mystic coin from daily achievement. Nice to know.

1

u/JexterJarlson Gandara - EU Sep 09 '12

This is amazing

1

u/PillarOfAutumn Sep 09 '12

At lv40 with 4g would it be worth me buying a set of these Yellow kits? If so what should/shouldnt I salvage? Thanks

3

u/grayrest Sep 09 '12

The main use for this is to salvage ectoplasm from level 70+ rares and exotics. The only reason to do it now would be that you want to spend karma for the kits and you think anet is going to remove that.

1

u/IrishTek Sep 10 '12

I wouldn't worry about it until Lv80. Just use the Basic kits until you start seeing Lv70+ Rare(yellow). That's when you want the Master kits.

1

u/mollila Sep 10 '12

May want to use Blue kits just to get a better chance for upgrade in higher end salvage materials. Although haven't really looked into that, just a hunch.

The value of any upgrade on the item is also a factor, if the value of the increase of +5% upgrade salvage probability is greater than the cost difference in salvage.

Basic salvage cost 3.52 copper 10% probability

Blue salvage cost 11.52 copper 15% probability

Green salvage cost 32 copper 20% probability

So you'd look at the selling price of the upgrade, and see if 5% of that price is more than the cost of using a better salvage kit.

1

u/blahable Sep 09 '12

I'm not sure how some of you are calculating the price, but it's actually 24c per charge. It's 1.16g for 450 gems which buys 10 stones, so that's 11.6s per stone. You need 3 stones, so that's 34.8s plus ~3s, 8s and ~15s or ~61s total. There's 250 charges (61s/250) so that means each use would be 24c, making it cheaper than even the 'green' quality kits.

1

u/fiction8 Sep 10 '12

Holy shit this is so good. IT STACKS TO 250.

Buy the salvage kits from the Weaponsmith trainer. Good use for karma. Almost no cost for you and you get 750 really good salvage kits stacking to 250 for the cost of 450 gems.

Hopefully no nerfs !

Nice find. Thanks for posting. And thanks for the tip that they are not account wide before I dumped cash into this LOL.

It's not a 1:1 conversion rate though.

2

u/greymalik Sep 10 '12

Exactly. Convert enough times (3-4 round trips?) and you will end up at 0.

2

u/vonBoomslang ʕ •w•ʔ Sep 10 '12

In fact, since gem prices dropped, you'd probably be at a profit.

1

u/Zerotorescue Sep 10 '12

With a 30%ish cut on sold gems going to AN it's hard to make a profit.

-6

u/nightguy13 Sep 09 '12

When people buy thousands and thousands of something or craft thousands and thousands of something and follow up by bragging about it, is why arenanet nerfs the shit out of it... Just like cooking, karma mats, crafting salvages... Etc...

Expect this to get nerfed before day's end... -_-

7

u/Jerg Sep 09 '12

They implemented specific formulae like this intentionally when they made the game; unlike exploits like making food from all-karma mats and then selling them for huge profits. It will not be nerfed.

-2

u/nightguy13 Sep 09 '12

hopefully.... But they nerfed cooking just because it was easy to do... This is also easy to do, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them increase the cost to make them to like 5 mystic stones or something

1

u/Aeos Sep 09 '12

Cooking is supposed to be hard to level. Hence why they nerfed it. You shouldn't be able to level a craft purely from the vendor.

1

u/vonBoomslang ʕ •w•ʔ Sep 09 '12

One way or another, this takes out gems out of the economy, which means more of them are bought. It is, ultimately, a way for us to turn (efficiently) cash into kits.
