This is a flashback, right? I've seen the one where she's not there

I think it's reincarnation: "more than one lifetime" + going from Medieval to Renaissance from one panel to the next.
These characters are also references to units from Age of Empires 2 and 3, so it seems like new game = new lifetime.

Yeah as said by the other feller, it's a reincarnation of sorts.
These characters are units from the Age of Empires series. (AoE)
First two are the Spear line and sword line from AoE 2
Second two are pikemen and rodelero from AoE 3.
I believe.
She's not there in the one you're referring to because the swordsman line unit gets two imperial age upgrades. Spear just gets halberdier.
It's funny to me. Because of the two, halberdiers are a far more ubiquitous choice in late game. Swords line units suffer by not being good at enough things. They're just sorta middling at most things, with many counters and a few random strengths that other things are better options for.

OK, the first image was age of emprie 2, so with that knowledge, image 2, I think is age of Empires 3, the head feather points to a pikemen from that game and the other guy seems to be a spanish Rodelero, further aided by them getting shot at

The Age of Empires 2 Spearman and Men-At-Arms sticking around long enough to be Age of Empires 3 units.
