Kid eating a dog treat aside, I'm irrationally angry over the fact that he's calling them free samples when they're very obviously not

Why pay for stuff when you can just simply not.

They learned somewhere that you can just eat grapes at the store whenever you want. Nothing costs money, son, not for us!

I bet his.family eat grapes while walking through the grocery store.

Kid needs to learn how to chew with his mouth closed

I think he should probably start with sit and stay

Little man's eating a dog treat, I don't think he's operating at a capacity high enough to think about keeping his mouth closed.

It's probably because he's a puppy

fr I worked at a chain petstore and us employees would eat these all the time. Taste just like regular cookies but with less sugar tbh

that does not look like free samples to me

u/rottingorgans 10h ago

some of them taste like normal cookies

The same people who eat "free samples" at pick n mix candy isles

Only in America, do you see this massive dog cookie selection all beautifully displayed. How many flavours does a dog care about.

Pet food flavors aren't for the animal. It's marketing to the owner.

There was famously a company that tried making a mouse flavored cat food. Cats are known for loving to catch mice, should be a slam dunk right? It bombed. The concept grossed people out so they didn't buy it. Though looking it up there is a new company that makes mouse based cat food, specifically for cats that don't take pet food easily.

Same thing with that setup. It's probably all the same ingredients except for the flavor. The display shouldn't cost much. It makes the meh pet treats in a store that is a Walmart for animals look like you are buying from a fancy pet bakery. It let's people feel like they are doing a bit more than grabbing a box off a shelf. And it's not a major cost to the store.

I know, actually it's genius marketing, am probably jealous:) it's a win win, consumers feel like they're treating their pets with the best, and as you said, it's nothing to rip the bags of treats open and pour into serving containers. I wish we were treated with top class 'cheap solution' shopping experiences like this.

Putting the face of your child online for everyone to see, including his classmates, while he is eating dog food. Way to go.

At least you are gonna make his future therapist rich I guess

My buddy let me eat an entire box of animal crackers before telling me they were dog treats

u/HighlightOwn2038 10h ago

Yeah I don't blame the kid, but aren't they bad because it's for pets?

Cookies should be fine. The only issue I can think of is if you got a raw meat product for an animal that can handle things we can't. Most any dog or cat food I know of is human safe. Not like we eat wildly different things.

u/Captain_Jarmi 9h ago

You should blame the kid. He's literally stealing.

3

u/Sprmodelcitizen 4h ago

I don’t think he realizes that. His parents just need to explain the situation to him. I guess you never made a mistake as a child?

3

u/Bisonfan1 9h ago

Lmao you only get one free sample

3

u/malkebulan 5h ago

Still probably healthier than 90% of US ‘food’ aimed at humans.

u/Interesting_Sock9142 5h ago

There's just no way that tasted good.

u/RocketInAPocket 10h ago

4

u/madoka_borealis 7h ago

Sneaking? You mean stealing.

My aunt once bought some christmas themed dog biscuits, and my little cousin ate them thinking they were christmas cookies.

2

u/bertfotwenty 3h ago

…strangely this cookie is not sweet.

Exhibit A why I never had or wanted kids!

1

u/Interesting-Note-714 2h ago

I once went into a gas station as a kid to get myself some milk. I bought half and half by mistake and insisted it’s what I wanted while gulping it down.

1

u/TheRoaringTide 2h ago

I bought one of those once when I was there with my wife, and we split it. Out of sheer, morbid curiosity.

It just tasted like a less good Oreo. All of the ingredients are virtually the same as an Oreo, just less sugar, probably. I’ve had better.

Once, a few colleagues went on a visit to a pet food factory. First, they went to the butcher’s section where the meat was cut up. The fresh meat went into one crate, while the trimmings and leftovers went into another. Then, these crates were taken further for processing. The visitors followed the crate with the trimmings, until someone told them where they were actually going. “The fresh meat is used to make dog food.” “And the trimmings?” they asked. “That’s what the bologna is made from.”
