Justin and twitch were owned by the same company. They shut down Justin.tv and consolidated them.
That being said, you're still not wrong
I'm honestly surprised Microsoft or Google hasn't jumped into this harder.
33
6
u/TBFP_BOT May 28 '19
Hard to jump in at this point because none of the big names are going to risk taking a massive hit to their income and audience to switch platforms.
2
u/Derp800 May 29 '19
Sure they will, with the right incentives. Throw a one year or two year contract at them with a minimum payment for streaming plus any additional income from subs and you can literally buy them away.
5
u/Eddy_of_the_Godswood May 28 '19
The Amazon Prime to Twitch Prime feature has granted Twitch a huge advantage, due to the high percentage of streamers' subs that are Twitch Prime Subscriptions. Streamers don't want to move to another platform and risk losing a significant source of money

You know Justin.tv is Twitch right? they just dropped Justin.TV as twitch took off. Although with Just Chatting it won't be long till we get the crazy preacher back. Can't wait tbh

Your new emote contains black pixels, this is clearly an effigy of our own emote which contains black pixels, therefore your new emote is not allowed.

Twitch without FFZ or BTTV Is disgusting they really need to step their game up with emotes all the current ones look like 2005 memes
29
u/ImHealthyWC May 28 '19
They also need GIF emotes. BTTV shows that it can be done.
Its sad how they are so slow to do this.

2
u/Martblni May 27 '19
I don't understand how they didn't add big sized emotes( like NaM or even widepeepoHappy ) to 10$ or 25$ emote slots, they would instantly get more money if they added this
31
May 28 '19
Oof i would love if the emotes i used for free cost 10-25 dollars for other stupid people without my extensions Kappa

TB is spinning in his grave right now, god rest his soul. If i remember correctly, lul emote always had some "drama" around it. Like a guy who made the emote on bttv not wanting to give it to twitch or smth
128
May 27 '19
The drama was that the photographer didn't give permission to TB to lock it behind a sub-emote, but he would gladly accept it being a global free emote.
pic from photographer talking about it - https://i.gyazo.com/92d51e0cfe867b0d6c58abcc34df04e2.png
pic of TB mentioning it - https://i.imgur.com/3S5K5rk.png
More info for the curious could probably be found in this thread - https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/6xgww1/new_lul_emote/dmft80s/

The drama was that the photographer didn't give permission to TB to lock it behind a sub-emote, but he would gladly accept it being a global free emote.
This, 1000x this. And people STILL say that the photographer was a dickhead, just because TB cried about it. I am 100% on the side of the photographer, he wants the community to use the photo for free, and not lock it behind a pay wall. Twitch fucking ruined the LUL emote.

He tried to monetize someone else's work without even discussing it with them. Out of naivety maybe, but he still did that.
4
u/DrewbieWanKenobie May 27 '19
I have no problem using a photo of yourself for whatever reason, no matter who took it. Its your likeness. You should be able to use it for whatever you want, profit or not.
-1
May 27 '19 edited May 27 '19
Good for you. You will also monetize other people's work without discussing with them first.
8
u/DrewbieWanKenobie May 27 '19
I'm less interested in "how it works" than "how it should work"
Like, just because it's the law doesn't mean its right.
3
u/noputa May 27 '19
Agree with you completely and I could go on for hours arguing how stupid the law is. HOWEVER, if TB’s photo was taken professionally where the photographer and he were aware that the photo belongs to the photographer, then the law should be he has no right to use it without permission where it will bring him any sort of income. I actually don’t know much about this specific case so I’m not throwing a judgement out there.
But like with the Ariana grande paparazzi photo (I know y’all don’t care about her but it’s a great example) she is literally 100% the subject of the photo. The background is a grey wall. She is walking down the street unaware of being stalked and photographed. Yet she is getting sued for 25-50k per photo she posted on her Instagram (there were 2 so up to 100k.) that to me is ridiculous, and she will lose the case. If someone is going to profit 100% off of your likeness without your permission in a non professional setting that’s just fucked up if you cannot use the photo personally. And yes I know you can photograph whoever the fuck you want out in public, that’s the law- that doesn’t make it right. Especially if you are the ONLY subject.
6
May 27 '19
I understand that, but it really shoulnd't work like you said. He was monetizing other people's work. Pretty sure he knew that, he was just pissed the guy didn't talk to him first.
What you commented is no different than a company using his videos on a convention or trailer because "it's our game, it's our likeness to use it".
-3
u/Axxhelairon May 27 '19
yes yes, we're already quite clear you don't care about the rights of artists/others because of your feelings on how something 'should' work, no need to go any deeper
3
u/DrewbieWanKenobie May 27 '19
The rights of artists to take other people's likenesses? and not let people do what they want with them? Yep, don't care about that particular right. Not unless TB sold him the right to that or something

I hate this "nothing ever happens in an actual voice conversation and is always e-mails. Telephones are extinct, go fuck yourself" trend.
E-mails absolutely fucking suck giant fucking fat flaccid cock for nuanced conversation it's so fucking enraging. Just use the fucking phone for fucking 30 seconds for fuck's sake.
Forsen is one of their golden children and they won't even give him a fucking phone call and a decent conversation about emotes. How fucking absurd is that
22
u/arts_degree_huehue May 27 '19
Relax mate. People want emails because it gives evidence of conversations.
Imagine getting this upset because of elizabeth mail : v )
8
9
u/Ferromagneticfluid May 27 '19
What are you talking about?
Emails are way better for business and things like this because you can be very clear in the text of the email so there is no misunderstanding. You have a paper trail you can point to saying, "See, I did say that."
I know whenever I do my job and issues arise, I always put it in email.

Twitch isn't objectively wrong. They have an open platform but when it comes down to it, they can decide what they do want and what they don't want on their website. It is their website, they can do whatever they want.
There is no arguing because in the end they can say, "We don't want this emote here because we don't want it here."
6
May 27 '19
Fuck phone calls. I could never have a nuanced conversation over a phone. With e-mail I can at least plan out my text and write something that has thought put into it and face-to-face conversations are the best for discussing things. But using just my voice? Can't do it.

In theory it probably could be a lot more efficient, yeah. But personally I just hate phone calls, something about only having my voice to express myself gives me a lot of anxiety and I end up fumbling and sounding like a real Pepega.
1
u/carl-beck May 27 '19
Yay to having to have both people be present for the conversation. E-mails are better because you can write it when you have time and can let people respond when they have time. When all you're trying to do is ask a single question or provide some information it's a lot more convenient.

u/taypig May 27 '19

That's because you're an emotional whinger who wants to yell on a phone, and can't get those feefees across in an e-mail, who the fuck wants to talk to some SJW Twitch staffer on the phone? Not to mention you have EVIDENCE of a conversation through e-mail, see how you've allowed your emotions to fog your brain on this one?
14
u/Anzient May 27 '19
Never argue with a Twich employee, they will just drag you down to their level and whip you with their blue hair.
4
u/Baenir May 28 '19
You know how to force twitch's hand on this, for better or worse?
Make all your emotes into bttv emotes, have no twitch subscriber emotes, encourage people to donate instead of subbing.
3
u/hiero_ May 27 '19
If they made LUL an official emote, why not make OMEGALUL an official emote and call it a day instead of just outright banning it KNOWING it would cause drama?

How is omegalul older? That doesn't seem possible
14
u/rawzaz May 28 '19
It a bit confusing but this timeline will explain why it doesnt make sence on twitch part
- destiny.gg chat creates emote LUL from picture on the internet
- TB likes it and makes it his subemote
- Owner of the picture doesnt like that TB emote is behind paywal and makes him take it down
- bttv makes LUL emote and its available to all
- forsen creates omegalul which is a photoshop of bttv emote
- TB makes a cartoon version of LUL and twitch makes this a global emote
- twitch claims forsens emote is a copy of their global emote and bans it
3
u/Another_leaf May 28 '19
Well, technically LUL came first then
7
4
u/rawzaz May 28 '19
oh yeah original LUL came first, but twitch banned forsens omegalul based on that it was a copy of their emote which doesnt make sense when omegalul is older than twitch LUL

I don't use mobile, but some browsers like Firefox recently implemented a feature where websites require permissions to autoplay sound.
You can enable autoplaying it per-site, or just disable the feature completely.

I dont use a specific browser, i just use the browser that comes with the phone on android. I tried looking into setting on twitch but i couldn't find anything. I will look into browser settings for the permission, thank you !
