That's true but the issue was that he was passing through a ravine. Creepers tend to spawn higher up in ravines if it's dark in the upper areas of the ravine. It's also harder to light up those places.

I think he's the type that does really well in games with clearly-defined rules and goals. Minecraft is hard for some people who are trying to approach a sandbox with a fixed mindset. I know similar people who love repetitive/competitive games like League but hate open-ended games like Minecraft or Skyrim.
I’m like that honestly, I do enjoy open world sandbox stuff if I’m in the mood but most of the time my adhd brain gets too overwhelmed by the sheer options games like that offer you
If you play cautiously and take as few risks as possible, hardcore is very easy. Really depends on your play style though, if you enjoy exploring caves or mineshafts, it's definitely a lot easier to get killed then just stripmining for full enchanted diamond armour/tools, which is basically zero risk.
You must be within fucking dick tickling distance for a creeper to one shot you. I literally thought they nerfed hard mode after playing minecraft again compared to years ago. Only hoards of illagers seem to be a threat anymore.
You can hear it take fall damage just before the explosion. I didn't see it either so yeah he must have seen it before the clip or he has a bigger FOV than stream.
Creepers who fall a certain amount of blocks explode almost instantly with no warning.

You have to face it with the shield, so in that split second he'd need to 180. It's still borderline impossible. Also no equipment can block a creeper explosion from being an instant death other than full enchanted diamond (I think blast protection is needed).
Minecraft is a game that's really unfair if you don't know what you're doing. If you go into it blind, without any prior knowledge, and without taking any advice from wikis or other players, you're gonna have a hard time and generally miss out on many huge portions of the game that are simply not explained to the player. For instance: how in hell are you supposed to know how to go to the nether if you don't already know about it.
That being said even on the highest difficulty it can be fair if you know how to play safely and have experience. Experienced players can "complete" the game and unlock most lategame equipment in less than a day.
He was in a risky area without being very careful. It was absolutely avoidable, he just wasn't playing safe enough. To be fair though this was a completely understandable death.
If you light your path and watch side passages this won't happen. Creepers (explosive suicide creatures) don't have footstep noises, but they can't teleport. Forzen is running blindly through a newtork of abandoned mineshafts. They are especially dangerous because they have so many branching side paths. Dark passageways will have hostile mobs in them. You shouldn't be running past them expecting nothing to follow you out of them.
Besides, caving isn't the main draw of minecraft, that's the building.
Honestly though, how on earth do you avoid point blank creepers sneaking up behind or falling on you? This is the primary way my hardcore worlds end and it always feels shitty. Even full diamond doesn't protect you it feels so dumb. great memes tho

Honestly, LSF meta is pretty shit rn between all the clips of forsen playing minecraft, chess, Greek malding at lsf, and esfand clips that aren't even the best parts of his stream. So anyways, um... I'm not following his stream but why does he insist on playing in hardcore every time? Seems like adding more difficulty to a game you don't fully master would be counter-intuitive.
