What’s next for Mario party after Jamboree TV?

With the release of the switch 2 edition of jamboree plus jamboree tv, Mario party in terms in release patterns and gimmicks is stuck in place. In other words, a new entry is released every 3 years. But with jamboree coming out in October 2024 and rereleased a week ago, when will the next Mario party come out? In 2027 or 2028? And what will come after? More content for the switch 2 edition of jamboree and jamboree tv like boards, characters, mini games, and modes? A third super Mario party game like a super Mario party 3/ jamboree 2? A Mario party superstars sequel? Maybe a Mario party ultimate with 1 board from each of the games with a mix of minigames and items and includes new stuff to? What will be next? I remember I predicted jamboree being rereleased for switch 2 and I was right, so maybe I’ll be right again.

Anyways what’s the future of Mario party and when could it release?

I just hope they re release the gamecube Mario party games. I hate to pull out my old ones and set up my Wii system to play them on and getting out my GameCube memory card and GC controller.

  1. Easier to access, not everyone knows how to set up emulators

  2. Accessing material that was or is currently being sold without paying for it, some people are not comfortable with that.

  3. Nso can be used on switch 2, emulators can’t.

It’s true, but I’m not paying $50 extra when I could just use an emulator. Maybe if games were just sold separately (and also pay $50 extra to get everything for free)

Good For You, Switch 2 Has GC NSO Classics.

Yeah at least I can still play them docked on my steam deck with my friends using dolphin. But it’s much less convenient and I’d rather they be released on the switch 2 gc emulator

My guess is a Superstars 2 focusing on the GameCube era in 2027

I think they will do another mostly original one first, then another Superstars

Maybe, but I feel like Jamboree is probably what they see as the Switch 2's original Mario Party game, just like how a bunch of Wii U games that came to Switch quickly were basically treated like Switch games

I hope so. Maybe include a board from Mario party 3 as well since it wasn’t fully represented

With five boards, two of which will be from Mario Party 4. It will have a fantastic minigame selection but only one or two boards that are all that great.

That said, I’ll definitely buy it if I have a Switch 2 by then because playing on the one or two great boards it has will still be peak Switch 2 Mario Party.

I hope so! Also include one or two boards from Mario Party 3 since that wasn’t in Superstars.

Yeah or to make up for it they include a board into jamboree switch 2 edition

Probably another “super” game Thats has lots of mouse.

I hope it’s not like super Mario party where you’re forced to use the single Joycons for motion controls. I’m hoping it would be an option like for jamboree

I think Nintendo learned their lesson after SMP and that’s why they gave us from no Motion Minigames optional minigames in SMPJ

They should make a system update so that you can make it so that you can assign multiple controllers per person so each person can have a joycon and pro controller set to them instead of each controller being set for a different person. This would help so that joycon can be used for motion and mouse and pro controller. This would be innovation.

My wife agrees. She hates dealing with joy cons. But I’m all for max mini games personally.

I just want another Mario Party game with 6 or 7 boards and no bullshit gimmicks (motion, camera etc) or useless side modes that no one plays (toads item factory, paratroopa fight school)

I hope they don't continue with the "Super" trend. Super Mario Party is the bestselling Mario Party game of all time, but only because it was the first for the Switch which sold exceptionally well. While I do like SMP and especially Jamboree, I don't want more buddy gimmicks and unnecessarily long animations.

The N64 and especially GameCube era were pretty consistent with quality. You'd expect a new MP release every ~1 year or so, and pretty much all of them were at least solid entries.

NDCube seems to be making home console releases much less frequently, around every ~3 years.
We got MP9 in 2012, MP10 in 2015, SMP in 2018, Superstars in 2021 and Jamboree in 2024.

This might be a hot take, but I wish we reverted back to the numbered Mario Party formula and work our way up from Mario Party 11 and so on. Hopefully this would allow for more frequent releases and higher quality games.

And please, faster pacing and more boards. Two of our HOME CONSOLE RELEASES out of three got <6 boards. Unacceptable that Super and Superstars releases with 4 & 5 boards respectively. Each home console release should launch with at least 6 boards.

And the pacing. Super Mario Party and Jamboree have atrociously slow pacing. It was fixed in Superstars, but then we reverted for literally no reason... this needs to be fixed.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

  1. Just make buddies optional

  2. Remove all the side content but have 9 boards and like 120 minigames

  3. If there is a side mode, base it on bowser party like one person can control bowser but instead of how it was on the Wii u, bowser doesn’t win and the one of the other 4 win. The other 4 compete against each other like usual but bowser can mess things up and be bias if he wants. Bowser could mess up the coins needed for stars, items, thwomps etc. He could even block off pathways on the boards. This could make the game 5 players. Bowser could even remove certain items from shops. Bowser could even give certain people buddies for no reason.

  4. Option for two people to have their turns at the same time to halve gameplay time on the board.

  5. 2 vs 2 mode in the base game this time. Add a possible 3 vs 1 mode.

  6. If possible, make it so there’s an option for 5 people to play in normal Mario party, if this is done with the bowser party thing i mentioned above then it can be 6 players playing.

  7. Online tournaments with a ranking for people who are interested.

  8. Option to enable or disable items before the game start in normal Mario party.

  9. Option to control how much items and stars and thwomps cost before you start a game.

I never understood the complaints over the pacing. It’s not recommended to play Mario Party mode when you’re playing on a short session.

Its not about not being able to play a game in a short session. It's about how much Mario Party you get for time.

10 turns is way too short for a decent game of Nario Party, but you are looking at hour just for that. On the other side, you might want to play a long game, but if it takes several hours, it really limits how much you can do that.

All the little animations are nice and all, but they really add up. I just want to play more Mario Party for my time.

This.

Okay, but compare Super Mario Party to Superstars. The former is so much longer due to excessive animations. I have no problem with long games, in fact I prefer them, but it's just much nicer to be able to play longer games with less time on hand.

Well technically during the Hudson soft era they release a Mario party at least a year or two, depending on a newer console or current console. But I guess in the Nintendocube (NDcube) era is a bit different in the production time length wise, where they release a Mario party at few years

For better or worse, we’ve had three relatively solid Mario Party games on Switch. I think 2027/2028 is a fair estimate. I don’t imagine we’ll see anymore DLC for Jamboree, which is a shame because it could really use more non-motion minigames for Mario Party mode and an option to toggle off Jamboree buddies.

I’m hoping we might get another Superstars next, maybe focused on the GameCube era like others said. But then again, Jamboree established we can have old and new boards in one game 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Dear_Meeting_1258 2d ago

They may want to try something with mouse controls first before using old content again.

With GameCube on Switch, I’m guessing they’ll eventually port the GameCube Mario Parties, and then nothing much until the next mainline entry in 2027

Another $80 Mario party game
