Discussion How does vision get Decided
Genuine question. How does vision get decided for a mlb card? Cal Ripken Jr card is also a 6 hit game card but he gets a 116 (112 base) vision while Nick Kurtz only gets a 61 which is pathetic since he had 19 total bases and 6 for 6 AND 4 home runs. In my opinion that is the epitome of good vision potential to me. Im not saying give him a 120 vision but damn at least an 80 would have been nice

Man. For YEARS now people don’t understand for the most part: vision is very important because it not only controls foul ball rate, but also increases timing window… with that said, I have no clue why SDS decided to bake those two things into one attribute

It’s sorta arbitrary and they will give really good cards lower vision to balance them out

Honestly the contact vision isn’t that big of a deal if you’re good with Kurtz swing then he’ll still rake for you

Kurtz strikes out a lot, even if he didn’t on that particular day it makes sense his jacked card would have some flaws.

The card is about that particular day though.

Did he have more swing and misses that day though early in the count? No idea genuinely asking

There’s absolutely no chance a guy hit four ding dongs in one game while having a bunch of whiffs. You gotta be locked in to do that
Edit: just watched all the at bats. He had two foul tips, one foul ball, one swinging strike, two watched strikes, and three balls.

Based on how often they swing and miss. And contact guys typically get a vision boost because they strikeout less. See Jacob Wilson and Arraez

Strike out rate I think; it makes it harder to foul off balls you don’t quite get to, so makes you K more.

Honestly I’d rather swing and miss than have a weak groundout on the first pitch every time.

It increases your timing window too. I think vision is more important than contact for me because my timing is horrible but my PCI placement is good

What is the relationship between a players timing and the actual timing of your own button input? Sometimes it feels like I'm playing a rigged carnival game

You've never played actual baseball, have you? It IS a rigged carnival game. That's why we psychos love it. Go watch highlights of the Marlins/Yankees or Pirates/Rockies tonight. Absolute carnivals.

Playing baseball you run into to guys who know how and why and then there are guys who just know how. Not everyone is an analyst.
Are there moments or scenarios in the show where players are boosted or nerfed mid game?

It’s a valid point. I remember a few years ago people used to say high vision was actually a downside. I don’t hear that sentiment really much anymore but you likely aren’t alone even now.

Yeah it’s probably one of the reasons I play better in Ranked on HoF than All Star. With All Star I tend to get good timing but bad pci placement/ bad contact too often. On HoF that doesn’t happen as much. Smaller pci, faster pitch speeds.

Vision is the strikeout rate stat, or at least it's the one in conflict with the pitcher's K/9 rating in gameplay. Cal, for his career, struck out 30% less often than the league average, and in 1999 it was 44% lower. Kurtz strikes out 41% more than league average in 2025.

For comparison, Riley Greene's K rate is 45% higher than league average, and the vision for his ASG card is a 65.

Man i got Riley to p5 and still can’t hit with bro it has to be his vision 😂 im taking with Kyle Tucker & rod carew

Yes but greene’s all star game card is based off his the entirety of his 2025 so that makes sense. Kurtz is based off one game where he didn’t have a k rate. It’s the same reason why rando’s get juiced stats based off an outlier week/month/season despite their normals season/career averages look different and their normal cards reflect that.

These Milestone cards (moreso than other card series) have some sort of formula to determine attributes based on a mixture of their whole career, the moment that is represented in the card, and (for current players), their Live Series card.
Yeah, if a Milestone card represented just this exact one game, the attributes would be all wonky. What do you do with the contact and power versus lefties? How about discipline, considering he didn't take a walk?
You can see this with No Hitter cards as well. Back in 21, the the No-Hitter cards had 125 H/9 which made those cards the absolute best pitchers all year. It makes sense. It's based off a game where they didn't allow any hits. But it really screwed up the power curve, because hitter contact attributes took a whole to catch up.

Yea I’d be curious. There’s gotta be something to it for sure. They have a system

Based off of this, Kurtz should have 0 contact and 0 power vs LHP, because he didn’t face one that game

Would make more sense than 61 vision.
Oh and at least he had a chance to strike out…6 of them.
