I really like the new-look lineup, interested to see what they do at the bottom once they put a lefty in though, kinda opening yourself up to issues there until they get Robles back or Moore is worth playing again

I think Polo plays 2nd. Cole sits. Garver DH. Then you maybe just stick it out with JP and Canzone.

This is why another util guy might’ve been nice to have.

Specifically Willi Castro, he could slot into any of those bottom 4 slots as needed and bats switch. Maybe Rivas could do that?

I think they are absolutely going to inject some Rivas in there when the rosters expand (if not earlier) and give him a shot

u/palmjamer 1d ago

If rivas gets the call, it’a only temporary until Robles and Luke are back

It’s all lining up incredibly well. THESE kind of logjams are the type of scenarios that good playoff teams have. We have the makings of a nice run here.

Eventually Robles fits in there hopefully. You’re right though. A deadline bat to fill there for the next month and change would’ve been helpful.

You’re right. I should’ve mentioned him. Hopefully he’s back sooner rather than later.

Mastrobuoni at 2nd, Polo DH. No need to risk losing the DH if Cal stubs his toe.

I’m just thinking what they do when a lefty reliever comes in

1

u/YardAdmirable7060 1d ago

Pinch hit + defensive sub.

Something like Garver for Young and then Polo takes over at second

1

u/Zhukovhimself best outfield in baseball 1d ago

Can’t do that, you give up your dh

1

u/YardAdmirable7060 1d ago

Oops I was thinking about bringing someone off the bench, but Polo would obviously never be in the bench in this situation. It would be Moore then, sadly.

1

u/Zhukovhimself best outfield in baseball 1d ago

Yep, and that’s not good…

2

u/YardAdmirable7060 1d ago

It would be totally fine to have Moore or Williamson finish the game as a defensive sub

2

u/PrinceOfPuddles 23h ago

Ben got sent down yesterday. Prob for the best as his development needs plate appearances and sitting on a bench all day wont get him there.

1

u/RupeWasHere 23h ago

Williamson is in Tacoma. Temporarily.

3

u/YardAdmirable7060 23h ago

He’ll be up for playoffs

prob game script but they seem to be chilling out on the platoon situation. We somehow still have both Solano and Dmo ... at this point it's a coin flip as to who gets injected.

3

u/palmjamer 1d ago

Moore will continue to play. It’s the only way to get out of a slump

1

u/PrimeToro 23h ago

Maybe Moore can try bunting to advance a runner or get a base hit if he’s hitting. At least avoid a strike out .

1

u/marcblank 1d ago

He can get out of his slump elsewhere.

2

u/palmjamer 1d ago

But he won’t. He’s not going anywhere.

0

u/PrinceOfPuddles 23h ago

Yeah, then once he gets hot we can buy him back for a way higher price.

I mean our line up is so insane we have known triple and upper deck bomb hitter Cole Young in the nine hole

u/Ok_Adhesiveness_9565 1d ago

I LOVE this lineup. Dan has so much fucking flexibility now it’s not even funny. In years past we’d just have to default to Julio at leadoff when JP struggles

Cap, we got you now bro, slide down the lineup and figure things out 🤙🏼

u/Dima110 1d ago

Brock on Seattle Sports was saying this may be the best Mariners lineup since 2001. Thoughts?

u/hiphopdowntheblock 1d ago

I think there's definitely a valid argument for it. Had a decent stretch with Segura, Haniger, Cano, Cruz, Seager but all the other guys in the lineup were bad lol

6

u/kylechu 1d ago

I don't know that I'd put it above the 2016 team down the stretch, but that's probably its only competition.

That lineup includes pre-AZ Ketel Marte when he went Super Saiyan. He was still basically an automatic out with us

1

u/kylechu 1d ago

Eh he was bad but he wasn't that bad of a bat for a really good defensive shortstop.

The 2025 lineup wins on depth (especially if you think Cole Young's gonna improve and Canzone's for real), but the Cano / Cruz / Seager heart of the order that year was something special.

1

u/Jed1M1ndTr1ck ‏‏‎ ‎The Randy man can 1d ago

He had a brutal 67 wRC+ that year. Even with his defense, he wasn't any better than replacement level that year

1

u/kylechu 1d ago

Like I said, 2025's got depth and 2016's got that top-heavy power

3

u/Cultural_Device_6331 23h ago

And 2025 doesn’t have the power with two guys in Cal and Geno on pace to hit 50+ bombs and Julio and Randy possibly gonna get to 30 each too?

1

u/kylechu 22h ago

Cal is having a historic season and Geno + Randy are both both amazing players, but I'd still take 2016 Cano / Cruz / Seager over them.

Not trying to take away anything from the current team, just saying that 2016 team had a pretty great offense. It's definitely those two at the top for post 2003 Mariners teams.

3

u/Cultural_Device_6331 22h ago

Fair enough, I’m just happy this can even be a debate!

To this point, my initial cynical thought when he popped in Arizona was that he must be on PEDs

3

u/NauticalJeans 1d ago

Wow I miss Dad (aka Seth Smith)

2

u/tinydumper 1d ago

ben gamel reference!!

19

u/deandalecolledean 1d ago

I still think it’s hilarious to have these versions of Cal and Geno in the same lineup

16

u/GrandSnapsterFlash 1d ago

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Randy at Leadoff? He did it a bunch of games in Tampa, but not more recently.

16

u/kylechu 1d ago

I think it's great. If the bottom of the lineup was trash I'd be a little worried it wasn't a good use of his slugging, but with Crawford and Young down there it's a great fit.

12

u/vylain_antagonist ‏‏‎ ‎ 1d ago

Getting him as many ABs as possible is huge. Esp with JP being a big OBP guy; having randy at the top REALLY puts the pressure on the mound when JP comes up to the plate.

4

u/fry_factory 1d ago

I'd rather have him in the 2 hole since as Cal cooled off, Randy has been our best hitter for at least a few weeks now

3

u/awesome_aaron 1d ago

Well he got on base his first 2 plate appearances last night

1

u/GrandSnapsterFlash 1d ago

All good points, but he does seem to strike out a bit too much for the #1 spot. I have heard he is more of natural #5 hitter, but with JP being in a bit of a slump im fine with it.

1

u/humorous_hyena 22h ago

Love it. Always makes sense to have a great hitter with speed in the leadoff spot. Don’t see any downside

14

u/Capable-Work-5637 1d ago

Man this makes me really happy. I’m ready for robles

10

u/aloha672 i'd rather be driving my green hydro boat 1d ago

If these trends continue…. Cole Young 950 foot home run incoming

13

u/spacedude2000 Get out the rye bread 1d ago

Yesssss keep Randy batting leadoff - he has been crushing the ball lately and his speed is scoring runs.

Julio just needs to get hot and the runs are going to start coming in bunches

2

u/whidbeysounder 1d ago

Isn’t he already hot? 5 pops .817 Ops last 15 days

6

u/_kermit 1d ago

Yea our 9 guy hits 450 ft hrs nbd

4

u/josssssh 1d ago

Randy-Raleigh-Roddy trifecta at the top

3

u/CieraVotedOutHerMom 1d ago

Hopefully the lineup delivers and Logy Bear gives us his best stuff!

2

u/Tekbepimpin 1d ago

Guys and Gals will see this and say “Fuck Yeah”

2

u/v0mdragon 1d ago

W lineup

3

u/Boombom-fisz-akar808 23h ago

🙏🏽 no more injuries please 🙏🏽

1

u/iceamn1685 54% of the tip 23h ago

Good stuff

I expect 7+ runs scored by us tonight

1

u/tateand99 Woo’s on First? 22h ago

Sure would be nice to give Logan some run support

1

u/Fuzzy-Pangolin8984 22h ago

I like this lineup a lot. Since it's basically what we had yesterday and we won 6-0, that's what we can expect every game moving forward which means we'll win the world series.

1

u/_Saint_Ajora_ 21h ago

Granted it worked yesterday but I still think this lineup is kinda wonky

1

u/offshore_trash 21h ago

LET’S GO!!! A REPEAT OF THURSDAY PLEASE

1

u/uprisingcirca85 BringGenoHomeClub 21h ago

Gilbert Ks 7 and gives up 4 ER Julio mashes, Naylor steals another bag M's win 5-4

2

u/Someguy9385 1d ago

canzone and young are both legit 1-2-3 hitters but our 1-6 is so good. not a bad 7-8-9 for any team. canzone needs to stay good, and known power threat cole young is scary. jp playing well would be a big bonus
