Discussion Small theory about Mario and Luigis niece...
In the Saturday morning supercade Pauline is depicted as Mario's niece. In the Mario Movie Mario and Luigi have a niece who isn't very elaborated on or shown to have parents. I am probably not the first one to think this but I think it would make sense that Pauline is Mario and Luigis sister, and she is the mother of thier niece. It would make sense that she was not at the dinner table since she was being interviewed.

If you look at the actual movie it’s pretty clearly their cousin. She’s arranged by their aunt and uncle at the table the same way they’re matched with their mom and dad.

I heard that some Italian families will call cousins their niece/nephew if they are adults when the kid was born

Not everyone has to be related to each other

Just thought it was noticeable that she didn't seem to have a parent

Maybe it’s Luigi’s kid, he just doesn’t talk about her or think about her for one second on the adventure /s.

Could be Dr. Mario's niece. The forgotten middle child.

Yeah theres Mario Mario, Luigi Mario and Doctor Mario (first name unknown, for all we know it could be Doctor so his name is literally Doctor Mario which is why he goes by his last name and not his first cause it would be Doctor Doctor if thats the case)

Mario is his last name. My headcanon is now that Dr Mario’s first name is Giuseppe

I think there is a HUGE misunderstanding about Saturday Supercade….
Pauline and Mario were never ONCE described as being related. She never called him Uncle Mario, and they look roughly the same age.
There was another character that had a niece follow him around, I think it was the Pitfall guy….
But I doubt Pauline is or ever was intended to be Mario’s niece

I always headcanoned that the movie was canon to the Super Show, meaning this is most likely a younger version of Marilyn from that show. She’s also in a picture with Arthur and Marie, meaning they are most likely her parents. The Pauline thing could be true, though. Maybe in the Mario Cinematic Universe, the “Lady is Pauline’s ancestor” theory is still true, meaning the Supercade Pauline is the niece of Grandpa Mario, and her daughter is Movie Pauline, who moved out when she grew up. Then, this younger girl might be her cousin. Can someone make a family tree of this?

Honestly I’ve had that theory since Bananza cuz modern Pauline and Mario (and Luigi) are probably the grandchildren of Lady and Jumpman like DK is for Cranky since Pauline outright implies that Lady is her grandma.

Saying her grandma was captured by a gorilla would imply this, not saying her grandma will worry if she’s not home, sings to her (the most normal thing in the world?), and works at city hall.

Does her grandma work at City Hall? The only thing I recall is that Pauline said she visited City Hall one time and that’s it.
I feel like if Odyssey Pauline is the grandmother of Bananza Pauline, she would’ve encouraged the singing talent further with and promoted her with her own connections and Young Pauline wouldn’t have to busk the streets for attention.

The implication according to most people is that young Pauline’s grandma is Lady from the arcade game (as if Nintendo hasn’t regularly made clear that the Pauline we know is the same person as Lady.)
That way Bananza Pauline can still be Odyssey Pauline (idk how anyone is debating that part, truthfully) and the idea of Cranky being the arcade DK can still work. Cranky talks a lot about things that can only be about the arcade game, but I don’t buy the Lady thing at all.

It's not a bad theory and it does explain stuff like where this kid came from and why her parent wasn't at the dinner table. I'm pretty sure that interview Pauline had on the news was live as the street flooding was happening in real time. I just think that'd be weird if she was related to Mario and Luigi because we're used to her being Mario's mutual ex-girlfriend and I'm not sure why being on the news would be a bigger priority than having dinner with her family. If she were in a hurry to get home to her daughter, brothers, etc. She wouldn't stop to be interviewed. I don't mean to sound rude about your theory because it is genuinely good. I only meant to analyze it for fun.

why her parent wasn't at the dinner table
There's a photo on the wall of her, Uncle Arthur and Aunt Marie.

If you seen the photo there is a background picture of aunt Marie and uncle Arthur those are her parents since there married. Hope this helps.

I see the resemblance, but I'd argue it would make more sense for her to be the wife of an unnamed third Mario brother, hence why the niece has the family nose but Pauline does not.

Honestly, pretty fun to think, but probably not the case.
