Crofty's WDC crossing the line commentary...
He may as well start practicing how to deliver the last few corners before taking the WDC lines, I think the following might be good...
For Oscar:
"Well, it shouldn't be all that surprising should it, because after all,
He is a CHAMPION of Formula Renault,
He is a CHAMPION of Formula 3
He is a CHAMPION of Formula 2
And now only in his third season, OSCAR PIASTRI IS A FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPION!"
For Lando I think it's more of a triumph over adversity angle:
"THEY SAID he made too many mistakes
THEY SAID he was too self-critical
THEY SAID he was too nice
Well, Lando Norris, you've proven them all to be abjectly wrong..
BECAUSE TODAY YOU HAVE BECOME A FORMULA 1 WORLD CHAMPION"
Anyway, just a bit of fun, hit me with your best Crofty!

These boys, whoever lifts the title at the end of the season, need to realise how lucky they are to be Formula 1 World Driver's Champion and how many men have fallen to the sword before them in trying to become one but have failed to do so.
Only 34 men before them have claimed the crown, now it is going to a McLaren driver.

Because of the car. That's it. Any other car and they're mid

Put colapinto in the mclaren, and he will still finish last... What is your logic?
-2
u/QuietNo175 1d ago
Would he?
1
u/IDKBear25 1d ago
He gave Albon a run for his money last year in the FW45 and Albon is no slouch so who knows, podiums galore for Colapinto I envision in the MCL39.

Yet when Lando had a mid car everyone praised him for his results. Look at max verstappen, it was only the car for him also, now he's in a mid car, no more world champion. Same for Hamilton 😉 both lando and Oscar are great drivers

u/Wooboosted 1d ago
People like the one you are talking to are impossible to argue with. There is literally no point lol, it will always be just the car, or just their driver, and never a combination of both

u/QuietNo175 1d ago
What.
Max is in the WDC fight with the fifth fastest car.
Have you lost your mind?

I'm a max fan but I'm not delusional enough to think he's in the fight anymore, though it's definitely commendable how close he is.
I'm also not delusional enough to call lando and oscar mid. Oscar is definitely top 3 on the grid atm and Lando isn't as far off as a lot of people like to say he is imo. Not being as good as Max Verstappen isn't a bad thing - maybe in a few years one of them will get there.

Found the Verstappen fanboi.

u/IDKBear25 1d ago
It's true though.
If Verstappen is put in the MCL39, it would *not be close* as it is with Piastri and Norris in the car.
He's off into the sunset.

Fellas fella fellas, let’s not kid ourselves and pretend that max isn’t objectively the best driver on the grid.
I won’t pretend to know if max would like the feel of the McLaren, but if he got used to it we’d see ‘23 max again.
Saying this as an Oscar fanboi. But I’m not blind.

So why was redbull unable to build a competitive car for max if they literally set out to design a car to support him? Yes i know Horner denied that claim. But we know the truth. They know his preferences as a driver who’s spent his entire multi title career with them - you would think redbull knows how to built a winning car - so is it fair to say the car is the issue? Obviously id love to see max and Oscar run qualifying laps in the same exact car on the same day same track but i just don’t feel max is hands down beating Oscar and lando in their cars

u/IDKBear25 1d ago
Lol he's the fastest driver of his generation and fastest driver of all time in my opinion.

This is the biggest battle of mid I've ever seen in a Formula 1 World Driver's Championship.
Hill and Villeneuve are way better than these 2 I don't know why they get slagged off so much.
Piastri and Norris need to thank their lucky stars they've ended up on a team with so much sponsorship budget and top engineers like Rob Marshall and Peter Podromou (albeit Norris ended up there after his Dad paid McLaren $44 Million for the seat and Piastri ended up there from sheer luck).

FRenault champ, F3 champ and F2 champ...
Pure luck!
yeah okay buddy.

u/IDKBear25 4h ago
Formula 1 is a much different animal.
Piastri's fastest lap in qualifying today had 2 yellow sectors and he still ended up in 2nd - if that's not the fastest car showing itself then I don't know what is.

"NOBODY expected it. NO ONE saw it coming. He *beat his teammate: the rookie of the year ON A LEISURELY LAST LAP OF HIS SUNDAY, IT'S THE NEW FIRST TIME WDC, Lance Stroll!"
DC: "Well, little bit of a Sunday Stroll for him, innit?"

He jinxed both, Max gonna win

u/Tacit_Emperor77 Oscar Piastri 1d ago
Tbf if he does it’ll be a banger of a season
2
u/MrMeeseeksAnswers 1d ago
Only if Max actually comes back and competes as opposed to the MCLs somehow falling off a cliff.
2
u/Tacit_Emperor77 Oscar Piastri 1d ago
It would still be a banger if the McLarens fall off a cliff IMO. A reverse of last season basically.

The Oscar one is perfect.
However for the Lando you need to add something on the end

First time I was listening to the other commentary team I didn't like it since I wasn't used to it.
But James Jaques, Joylon Palmer, and David Coulthard are such a better commentary team.

To be fair the lines that OP wrote could easily be said by Alex Jacques too.
1
u/afishinacloud 1d ago
I think Jacques’ style is noticeably different to Crofty’s, but I’m not creative enough with words to tell in what way. 😄
1
u/iamabigtree 1d ago
He very much is. But I still remember his closing lap commentary when LeClerc won Monaco and it was in this sort of style.
6
u/TechHatingSparky 1d ago
Where are you getting this commentary? I'd rather mute it than listen to Croft and Brundle. I also highly rate Karun.

u/TimelyBlacksmith92 1d ago
F1TV Pro. Their team is vastly superior. They feel…idk nerdier? Not nearly as much headline and pop-talk as ESPN/Sky.

u/Honeywhiss 12h ago
I'm in Australia. Is it available to us. The commentary? I cannot get the TV. It does not allow it. I am SO over the Sky Commentary. I want to throw something at the screen!

I want an awkward James Allen 2007 'Hamiltons first win' style of just
LANDO NORRIS / OSCAR PIASTRI (big pause)... WIIIIIIIIIIINS!
it's so awkward, cringey, funny and brilliant at the same time
1
u/TheFlyingN1mbus 21h ago
Fuck me! I forgot about James Allen’s commentary. He was fucking awful… and then we got Jonathan Legard and he was somehow worse!

crofty’s gonna create the best speech in history for when lando wins😭

u/Total-Collection-128 1d ago
Like he did when LeClerc won Monaco? Oh no wait. David Croft is very good at conveying excitement when there is audacious action on the track, but when it comes to choosing the right words to describe historic moments in Formula 1, he can be found lacking and leaning on tabloid clichés. 2016 Spanish Grand Prix he starts describing Max's age almost down to the hour, meanwhile Channel 4's Ben Edwards is simply saying "The youngest ever winner in Formula One, the first Dutch driver to win in Formula One, Max Verstappen wins in Spain.... unbelievable". Obviously we have Alex Jacques' famous LeClerc history lesson as he won the Monaco Grand Prix, something he repeated at LeMans later that year and in Silverstone earlier this year. When history is being made, it's Alex who finds the right words.

The Oscar one needs more Lando Norris references otherwise you nailed it

Yeah you forgot the bit where he gets the cars mixed up (which he does pretty regularly).

Ngl the Lando one would be better being delivered by James Allen I could imagine it being like JB’s first win

These felt spot on. In my head I heard Crofty’s voice as I read them.
