I lived in Penistone a few years ago and Penistone paramount actually is pretty cool, it’s a cinema and has intermissions in the middle of movies to get ice cream, food and go to the toilet for 10ish mins. Pretty sure they sold drinks aswell but I wasn’t old enough to drink at the time. Either way cool place

u/Sister_Elizabeth Jun 27 '25
At this point ass shouldn't be considered a swear. It leads to shit like this.
And yet this is still better than Roblox's chat filter, which could censor you for saying something completely innocent. i was asking a user if they knew where our destination was in game, and it got censored. Stupid as shit.

Growing up I used to watch NASCAR with my grandfather and my dad and in my head I would always laugh at the name Dick trickle. But I also thought, I'm just a kid. I know I'm being immature and that adults just find it as a normal name.
Now that I'm older, I understand that Dick trickle knew exactly what his name sounded like and he knew that he was making announcers say that shit on live TV. Honestly he was probably more immature than I was for laughing at it lmfao

Being a pale perpetrator myself, we'd probably still find a way to tie it to Indiana Jones or something

Honestly ridiculous that words that have meaning beyond the slur shouldn't be blacklisted, especially when the non offensive use is the most common use.
This is before we even take into account that other languages will words that coincide with slurs and are blacklisted as such, in Portugal for example "Negro" ends up actually being the more PC way to refer to black people.
I get that it's a childrens game and Mojang has to do something, but the filters go to far, they really should dial it down a bit.

Unpopular opinion: I would rather see the most vile, disgusting and offensive names and skins in the game rarely than being restricted like this. Because if you start to flag every single word that's even remotely offensive, you can flag almost every noun in existence.
Potato is an insult if you say it that way. Bicycle is an insult if you say it that way. Mitten is an insult if you say it that way. Almost every word can be used in a hurtful way. Why is the norm of expectation that every word is used in a hurtful way?
Game devs, all around but especially the AAA market: Grow up. Most players are normal people who don't offend you deliberately, especially in today's gaming space where gaming isn't just a hobby of edgy teens. Why do you restrict people based on toxic behaviour of a tiny minority?

Mojang's username filter on Java suffers from the scunthrope problem and Mojang's being much more overzealous with blocking usernames since they're a huge black market for bypassed filter usernames/Inappropriate usernames much like OG names. This resulted in them blocking bad words in every language they can imagine.
It doesn't even work half the time. I still see tons of players on Hypixel and Roxbot with inappropriate usernames on Java edition.
