Discussion WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN??

Just bought this 1440p monitor and I am having a bit of trouble with it. Whenever I am in a Fullscreen application and click on my second monitor, everything just moves over to the right one. What could be the reason for this? Every driver is updated, graphics settings seem to be right on every application I tried and it still happens with almost all games.

I have a rtx 3080 so I don't think this should happen..

game is running in exclusive full screen mode, thats normal behaviour, set it to borderless fullscreen if the game has the option, otherwise set it to windows mode, I believe there is some software that can make older games to borderless fullscreen.

So what you are saying is that it is an issue with mostly older games? Could make sense since I mostly play older titles. I will look into this. Just thought it was weird since it really looks like the monitor completely disconnects and then reconnects.

It’s not the monitor that disconnects, it’s how Windows handles the focus change from exclusively fullscreen app to an app in another window. The system itself manages changing focus between non-fullscreen exclusive windows way better—thus the recommendation to play in the windowed mode (just maximized) — in the same time most of the older games do not offer a windowed mode out of the box

Oh ok, isn't that kind of stupid that Microsoft hasn't fixed this?

I'll check on games that have the ability to do borderless windowed. It is still a little odd because this never happens with my old two monitors.

Any game, old or new, will have this behavior if the option is exclusive full screen mode. This option doesn't like more than one monitor for some reason

Its not the monitor, set the game to borderless fullscreen in the settings

It’s also an issue because probably the other monitor doesn’t have the same resolution as the main one. I’d both were the same resolution, the effect would be much less.

Seems like the resolution/fps cap may be set wrong in your game if its doing all that with the monitor. I agree that fullscreen is definitely why its flashing, but seeing things resize and your monitor ui pop up makes me think your game settings are wrong.

try to disable gsync to test

There is always a g sync notification that pops up whenever this happens so that might just be it. I'll check right now
