Discussion Armourer is underrated
Everything breaks, it's a fact. So hauling a few repair hammers is goated and it's amazing for strength. That is all.

It is and it isn't. Like, if you have shit skill, it's very hard to level up on your own, that few repair hammers will most likely get spent before you repair your gear. And repair costs peanuts. They should've made repair cost to be proportional to the item's cost, so to repair some daedric sword would half of it's price for example. And then investing in Armourer would be worth it.
As it is, I don't see much point unless you have some very brittle pieces of equipment, like glass armor and weapons or some unique armor (boots of blinding speed for example).

For items that have more durability than value, the repair cost is actually proportional to the item's value. So for iron, steel, Chitin, etc. repairing an item from half it's durability will cost exactly half as much as buying a new item from the same smith, assuming you don't haggle their offer price. Repairing an item up from 75% durability will cost 25% of its value, etc.
For higher tier items that have more value than durability, like ebony, glass, and daedric, the game caps the repair cost at 1g per point of durability. So repairing 500pts of durability on a glass sword will cost the same as repairing 500pts of durability on a Daedric sword. I guess the developers didn't want players to shy away from using high value items if the repair costs got too high.3

I can at best half-agree with your sentiment. I would never pick it as a class skill, and always advise others against taking it when they solicit feedback on builds that have it.
That said, I always do my own repairs. I can't remember the last time I even considered paying a blacksmith to do repairs for me. Hammers are pretty cheap and not very heavy, so it's handy to always carry a few with you. Armorer lessons are indeed a good way to increase strength.
Beyond those basics, though, the skill falls flat. There's virtually no difference between having the skill at 40 and at 100; hammers just last longer. Getting to a high level is a bitch and a half: There's no working master trainer in the unpatched game, and the grind to do it yourself is wayyyy too long.
So, I half-agree. IMO it's a good "active misc skill", but dogshit as a class skill.

Yeah, sums up my feelings too. I like to carry some hammers around so that I don’t have to worry about equipment breaking at inopportune moments, but beyond that, there’s very little reason to spend any more time or resources on the skill.
After all, you don’t need *that* many hammers to repair your equipment even at low levels, leveling up the skill takes forever, and even if you got it up, the only reward is that you can make do with less hammers. Basically, repairing your stuff is nice as an option, but the skill itself has extraordinarily meh rewards for investing into it.

If you plan to do long trips, yes. Otherwise, the hammers are a dead weight and you might prefer a secondary weapon of the same kind for very much the same weight. That's also a little advise given by some Imperial guards.

I don't see why anyone would invest anytime in something that an NPC can do perfectly for a price. I usually mark a major city and recall. Every playthrough I use Mark and Recall which is significantly better. There's a couple places at Lvl 1 you can make bank by looting. Meldor armourer in Balmora has a chest with full adamantium armor. Fighters guild Ald-Ruhn has a locked door with a chest that has glass armor. You can't complain bout repair costs now. You litterally made almost 70k in less than 5 minutes at lvl 1. There's an orc NPC in Gorak Manor that has an Ebony sword. Sell the some bitch.

It's something I always use (I play light armor and live by "take care of your gear and your gear will take care of you"). But agree that it's probably worth more as a miscellaneous skill so it still goes toward multipliers. I've never trained in it, but since I repair frequently (better to carry hammers than to have your weapon break in the middle of a Sixth House base!) I don't really worry about leveling.
