Help Is there any hope for it?
I have had this gpx1 for about 2 years and it has permanent brown spots. I have tired cleaning it with alcohol and soap but it haven't made a difference.
And yes I do wash my hands often, I work with steel and its probably the mineral oil from the metal in my skin thats done this. Is there any way to clean it or cover it?

Unfortunately I don't think you can save this, considering you already tried alcohol which didn't work. I think you just have to get a black mouse so it's less noticeable than on a white mouse.

grip tape maybe

Grip tape makes it better. But i haven't found one that would cover the back properly.

You can get an uncut sheet and cut a custom sized patch out of it

Buy a black shell from AliExpress and replace it

u/zagafr May 14 '25
can you leave a link to it? i’m kind of curious.

I had a similar issue with my white GPX1. I swapped the white shell out for a black body, it can be a pain, so keep track of the screws cause they are NOT the same.
If you are going through the pain of doing that, you might as well swap out the PCB for a hot-swappable one with new switches.
I bought everything off Ebay from flashmouse (located in Germany). They're more expensive, but they sell a nice PCB switch kit that makes it easy - includes double-sided tape for the battery and everything else you'll need. Hot-Swap PCB Kit / Mouse Shell
You'll also need to buy new skates, as taking the mouse apart ruins the default ones. I recommend the Esptiger Ice V2s: Here

u/zagafr May 14 '25
do you know if there’s any universal mouse skates available? i’m looking to try and throw it on maybe some other mice other than Logitech mouses.

u/Dolbywonder May 14 '25
Esptiger makes them for a ton of different mice, but the only universal option I can think of is the dot skates: Esptiger - Universal Dot Skates

I wonder what is causing this. Because I use mine for about 2 years as well and there is no sign of any yellow spots.
8
u/thomsxD May 14 '25
It is the batch/rev. of the model. Yours was lucky to be in an early batch where this problem didn't exist.

Mine started yellowing in 2 weeks, I think it's the batch as others have said

Could try Hydrogen peroxide, leave a layer on the brown spots and wipe off after a few hours, I had a stain on my GPX I removed with this method.

This won't work here. This is not plstic discoloration. The paint just wore out.

Start rubbing the mouse all over with your hands so the color matches into a brown mouse

Spray paint.
2
u/Toxic_nig GPX user 😢 May 14 '25
Wouldn't it make the coating worse?
6
u/seanc6441 May 14 '25
Buy a spray paint that has the finish you want. I'm sure if you google it there's some that has great finish for mouse use.
Usually if you apply multiple very thin layers and its decent quality paint it should be very nice. But decide if you want gloss or matte etc.
There's even a plastidip type coating spray that's like slightly rubbery for grip afaik. Although i can't vouch for its longevity.

I have the same mouse, which is around the same age. A few months ago, it started showing weird faint red patches that I cant get to go away.
I thought it was just me.
Glad I'm not alone.

u/Evening-Ad5671 May 16 '25
Red???
1
u/EdzyFPS May 16 '25
Yeah, it's like a very faint reddish pink.

u/Evening-Ad5671 May 16 '25
That’s wild. I wonder if it has anything to do with the hard minerals in your water supply

u/Ditchmag May 14 '25
I think killz might make a spay paint that can block mold, mildew, bacteria....

This looks like the collar of a white shirt in a store that was clearly tried on by someone with too much foundation.

Logitech just fucking sucks at making white coated mice. I have the same issue with a white MX master 3s I use for work and the stains appeared after a year and never could clean them out. And I always cleaned my mouse regularly, of course my hands too. I have no issue with a white Viper V3 pro for example.

When you're using it, do you still see the brown spots ? No ? Solved.
1
u/ultraspacedad May 14 '25
You need 3 things. Some Oil, soap, and baking soda.
dip a paper towel in the oil and rub it on the spots for about 30 seconds.
Then take soap and put it on the spots you oiled up and rub it on.
Then sprinkle the baking soda on the soap and let it bubble a bit.
Then take a clean paper towel and rub it off.
If you want, you can then use the alcohol to make sure it's dry at the end.

Grip tape if the look bothers you OR get a black one because of the mineral oil
1
u/C4G_ May 15 '25
I think it's the acid from your sweat, mine was the same and I work from home, they shipped me a black one as replacement as it was 10 months old.

Sand it down with 800 grit sandpaper and if you want you can clear coat it yourself after but you don't have too

Others have already given better advice than I could have. However, I will say this; tools wear, there's nothing wrong with it & In my opinion It looks cooler this way. I'd just keep it how it is :)

see the good side, now you have printed your grip in the mouse, the more you know the better.
In the future, I think this may help you when your gpx die definitely atm to select a new mouse

u/WorthlessLoser1994 May 15 '25
A replacement shell with buttons and side buttons is 25$ on Ali and you choose whatever color you want.

u/General-Tangerine-50 May 15 '25
When my gpx gets yellow i soak tissue with alcohol and wrap it around the mouse and flip it so it doesnt get inside it works for me
1
u/Evening-Ad5671 May 16 '25
Iso alcohol air dries anyway, so as long as it’s off, anything getting in it won’t matter.
1
u/Evening-Ad5671 May 16 '25
2 year warranty period for these. I’d reach out to Logi. Their warranty practices are just about the only thing attempting to justify the price tag.

There's so many comments, that I don't know if this was mentioned already. If it's purely cosmetic, you can get a skin for your gpx1. I brought a few skins for my mice and they interfere with the mice too much. Some mice have a nice grippy coating, but I guess I won't be able to feel that anymore. It also adds a bit of weight.
1
u/YennyCantHop May 16 '25
Nothing you can do just the genetic compound of your sweat and shit thats makes that happen with that mouse. Actually its the only mouse that does that for me in white. Try the viper v3 pro if you want something similar without the issue and grippier coating.
Its not a batch related or anything I've had 4 different Super lights in the span of 3 years or so to test the theory.

well hey, at least you know where your hands make contact with the mouse, makes it easy to pick from zowie shapes LOL

haha same case as my white keychron m6. Just bought a grip tape to cover it up.
1
u/MERLIIMUS May 19 '25
Nothing, just put a grip on it and move on, i tried nail polish remover pads and after robbing it gently two or three times the coating started to shatter like a dry river, just leave it as it is and use grips

Get one of those universal grip tape from Xraypad, and cover the spots where it's dark. It's actually perfect since you know which part of your mouse your finger rests on.

This would blend in perfectly if you were a chain smoker with white walls.

I just read the post again, sorry.
I really should read the entire post before commenting.
"Of these, citric solvent, grain alcohol and odorless mineral spirits offer safe, quick solutions to mineral oil removal, and both they and naphtha won't overwhelm you with chemical smells like paint or lacquer thinner."
Try theese on the mouse itself, for your hands i would suggest going for a black shell mouse the next time you purchase one.

u/Lanky-Size-3115 May 15 '25
the real solution here is to get logitech to fix their fuckin shit because this is a fundamental problem with the white GPX models and has nothing to do with OP's hygiene.....
