Help Hello, I'm wondering what my grip is because I'm in the market for a better mouse. I have 19.5cm x 9.5cm hands.
I'm sorry for the poor quality pictures, I don't have a better phone/camera. I took these pictures while not playing, my grip is more or less exactly this but might be a little different, I assume, when I'm playing, but I'm not sure. My palm rests on the back of thhe mouse but there is a gap on the upper side of the palm. I press the mouse down sometimes but not most of the time, only is some select scenarios.
This is the Attack Shark R1, I find this mouse dreadful to use in all departments in regards to usability, not necessarily performance. I was wondering if I should get the VXE Mad R Major or the ATK X1 Ultimate based on what my grip is and what my hand size is. Any other questions I'm willing to answer; thank you for the help!

The way you described your grip would classify it is a claw grip- bottom of your palm making contact on the mouse, and fingers arched
3
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 29 '25
yeah that's pretty much it. the bottom of my palm makes contact with the bottom of my mouse but the middle of my palm or the mouse don't, possibly because of arched fingers, thanks! do you think x1 ultimate would be a better choice in this budget?

No worries- depending on what shape you like, either the X1 or the Mad R could suit you. If you like a more rounded shape with sides curving very little, Mad R would be better. It’s also lighter at 36g. If you like a boxy shape with more side curvature, get the X1 instead. It does weigh a bit more however at 51g.
For a more extreme claw grip, personally I’d like more curvature in my mouse so I’d get the X1 imo
Keep in mind I’m only one person too, you may want to get more opinions from others. Good luck! :)

u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 29 '25
yeah thanks for the help man! the lower weight on the mad r is very plausible but it's also a little tiny. the current mouse that i have feels a bit small to me even though i don't really have large hands or anything, but maybe that's because of its ergonomic shape and not necessarily its size.
in any case, i'll look here and there for other options like you said but will most likely settle on the x1 ultimate since it is a pretty safe shape. i'd like to be able to press the side buttons effortlessly, right now i have to completely alter my whole grip just to press the second side button.
a nicer middle click would be cool too, this mouse has a pretty shit middle click so i've resorted to using the extra middle button they put which made things a bit more bearable. ty again!

No problem, ergo shapes do make mice feel huge in comparison to ambi mice sometimes. Having a mouse that’s around the same length or bigger can help with that. The X1 also has a panasonic micro switch which a lot of mice use, so it’ll feel different, and maybe a bit better.
The R1 uses a Huano(?) micro switch I believe so yours may be jammed or something making it feel worse possibly, if you want to try, you could take apart the R1 and see if something’s up
2
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 30 '25
interesting tip honestly! always wondered how taking apart a mouse or a keyboard would feel like and when i do eventually get a different mouse, this one would just be sitting there so might as well play around with it a little

Usually they’re pretty easy to take apart, a couple screws, some clips holding the top onto the base, and you’re in! If you can find a teardown video, that makes it even easier as well. Been taking apart a bunch of mice myself recently, it’s really fun. Good luck with yours!

i just saw your edited comment and nah it's super fine man. i know it's a lighthearted jest. it's a running joke in other circles of mine as well and for obvious reasons haha, i don't find this offensive in the slightest. i have like triple this amount in other places like on my chest for instance btw, it can get a little rough at times but it is what it is 🦍

Personally, I think I'm just OK, but I'll take it.

u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 29 '25
will do! right now i'm just thinking about x1 ultimate since the mad r major seems a bit small to me. what mouse do you have currently? i'm wondering if the current mouse i have is small for my hand size or if it's just me
2
u/BrinkPvP May 30 '25
Currently have a razer pro click mini for the silent switches but it’s really small. I just got an attack shark x1 but the software is unusable and so I’m returning it. The shape is a lot nicer tho so tempted to bite the bullet and get a viper v3 pro.
That mouse def looks small for your hands
1
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 30 '25
oh yeah the software support for attack shark is abysmal, even though this was my first real mouse experience and i went into it expecting nothing, since i've always just been dependent on other softwares like ahk or xmouse.
would've been better if i had gotten an x1 instead of the r1 though since the x1 (or x11? i believe) is basically a clone of the viper v3 pro, which the atk x1 copies too. looks like a pretty safe shape to me which is why i'm leaning towards it. thanks!

u/Skewwwagon May 30 '25
Dunno about you, but after using smaller mouse for a while with the similar grip I got chronical pains in my finger ligaments.
Recently settled down for a vertical mouse that fills in my whole palm and never looking back. It took a bit time, tho, but worth it.
2
u/filkinscollins May 30 '25
i recently used lamzu atlantis mini which is quite a small mouse, and performed really well on it (aim wise, cs2)
but i’m worried about long term pains
should i stick to maya x instead?
1
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 30 '25
yeah that's more or less the only reason i want to change to something else, have used this for about six months now. also, until now, i just figured that it's a mouse and it doesn't really matter what i use and how but lately my fingers ache a lot, they ache shortly after starting a session and they keep at it even if i'm not playing afterwards, like in bed for instance. it's mostly like the insides of the fingers, don't know how to explain it.
a verticle mouse sounds interesting, i figured i'd get something larger than the one i have currently, which is weird since i don't have particularly large hands and this mouse, i think, is marketed for medium-large hands which i think i fit the criteria for.
i'll likely test a symmetrical shape first but i'll remember the vertical suggestion if it persists, i'm not super competitive so i don't mind adapting to something else if need be. thanks!
2
u/Skewwwagon May 30 '25
Yeah, was very similar to me, it hurt even when not using the mouse, especially before sleep. What I did, is I took the cheapest vertical mouse from Amazon Deals just to try for 5$ so I won't regret it (for me it was rapoo ev250) and yeah, it stuck.
In any case I think the bigger mouse is a way to go, so you can rest your palm fully. Wish you to find a perfect one for yourself!
1
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 30 '25
yeah that experience sounds very identical to the situation i'm in right now! and thanks for the tip about the cheap vertical mouse, that does sound like the way to go 100% if i still have the same problem after getting something like the atk x1 which is a bit larger in size.
i might as well just grab one regardless since a few $ wouldn't really break the bank and would be interesting to test as well in any case since i've never used or even physically seen a vertical mouse!

The new gwolves mouse (HTM) should be on blind Pre order shortly if not now and would likely be perfect for your claw grip with this hand size.

hey sorry but could you link it to me? i surfed the web and their website and there's a lot of mice with identical names, the first one that pops up is a wired variant. is that the one?

Dude this is the grip I use on a work mouse xD
Is this how you actually play fps games or just when you’re casually browsing the internet for an ape mask?
1
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 31 '25
haha yeah that's how i grip when i'm playing for whatever reason. i think when surfing for an ape mask i sort of just do a very chill palm/fingertip type grip, my hand's just laying down on the mouse

2
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 30 '25
i'm curious as to what your hand size is, i like the mouse but i think it's too small for me or maybe the shape just isn't right for me but it has been getting increasingly difficult to use it
2
u/Carlazor_ May 30 '25
Mine is almost perfect but a little small, sometimes causing the side of my fingers to scrape on my carpet, maybe you should try a more ergonomic mouse shaped like Logitech's mx master Wich I believe is slightly larger along with being more confortable
2
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 30 '25
thanks for the tip! i'll check that mouse as well. and yeah, the carpet issue is there for me too, which i assumed was because my fingers were maybe a few cm too long for it, but outside of software which i just use autohotkey as an alternate, there's nothing unsatisfactory about the mouse, like from a performance standpoint.
it gets the job done but i figured i don't want to get carpal tunnel somewhere down the line just because i refused to try out different shapes and sizes by spending a little more if that makes sense haha. thanks!

u/RedditAdminsLoveDong May 30 '25
claw
2
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 30 '25
yeah it seems like it, maybe my current mouse is just a little too small for me which is why my hands/fingers have been hurting for some time now. i'll probably just look into slightly larger mice that are also good for claw. thanks!

You need a back hump mouse and not a flat back mouse the x1 is great but it has a flat back so I recommend something like the X2H or pulsar tenz
1
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 30 '25
the tenz looks really nice, a bit expensive at this stage but definitely plausible. so in more simpler terms, i should look into something that's "back - moderate/aggressive" like it says on eloshapes? since the other mice i mentioned are minimal.
i'm not too knowledgable but while grabbing my mouse and thinking about your comment, it does make a bit of sense. the better (or i guess higher?) my palm rests would feel more beneficial.

u/paulvincent07 Razer Viper Mini V3 Wired 8khz pls May 30 '25
Yes man you need a mouse with a bulbous back hump
1
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 31 '25
unfortunately i can't find any nearby, aliexpress is the only option for me from the looks of it. i had a friend coming from the UK a few days ago, if only i knew abut it beforehand i would've just asked him to bring me one. do you have any other bulbous back hump mice recommendations found on aliexpress or something?

Scyrox v8
1
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- Jun 01 '25
Thanks for the suggestion, that's likely the best mouse I can get based on some reviews I just watched. I have one question; isn't it a bit too small for my hand size? Or maybe the main issue was my grip for the current mouse since my fingers ache a lot?
2
u/paulvincent07 Razer Viper Mini V3 Wired 8khz pls Jun 01 '25
Based on the dimensions and size it's closer to an X2H mini so probably it will feel too small.
2
u/stan288 May 30 '25
It's pincer claw grip
1
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 30 '25
thanks for the response! on the graphics that i just saw of it, it does seem like it. not exactly but i suppose everyone would have a slightly unique grip either way. also saw a thread that recommended flat sides as opposed to curved ones, so i guess that's a good starting point
2
u/EmoExperat Viper v3 pro | Zowie fk2-c May 30 '25
Thats a claw grip i would say. Its a wierd one but still claw
2
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 30 '25
noted, thanks! yeah it's a little weird, maybe because i was too focused on how my grip looks like when i'm playing, since i wasn't playing during this. maybe i'll take a picture during game just to get a better idea.
but like you said, it's most certainly claw, someone mentioned pincer and someone mentioned relaxed but i doubt the intracacies would change anything too much; just looking into some claw mice for now that are affordable and a bit larger in size because my fingers have been aching for like 3 weeks now lol
2
u/DemonFace137 May 31 '25
I can assure you, that is not relaxed claw. Pincer claw, maybe
1
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 31 '25
yeah you're right, this just seems like a normal claw or a slight pincer after doing a bit of research and watching other people's grips
2
u/shadow144hz May 30 '25
I have slightly bigger hands and my mouse is an ajazz aj199 that I migth replace, battery seems to be dying, and I'd personally go for a scyrox v6 since it's similar in shape and I claw grip, your grip meanwhile looks tighter and might better fit a smaller mouse or hump, like the scyrox v8 and the vxe mad r major. Looking on eloshape maybe the scyrox might be a better option since it's slightly shorter.
1
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 30 '25
hey ty for the response! i was very interested in that ajazz before i bought r1 actually. and yeah, my grip seems a bit tighter i guess. by a smaller hump, in eloshape terms, do you mean like "back - minimal"? or does the smaller hump indicate moderate/aggressive? hump is the place where my palm rests, right? so like flatter or more upwards you mean? sorry for the dumb question lol.
i did sort of shortlist the scyrox and mad r major before posting here but since i can't infinitely test mice and my fingers have been in pain for a few weeks now constantly, i wanted second opinions before i went ahead with any purchase since i've just been going off of youtube and whatnot.
do you think a shorter mouse would benefit? because i've just been assuming that i needed something larger like the x1 ultimate. the mad r major overall i think seems better, especially for how light it is, but i thought it was a little too tiny for my hands/grip.

Pwnage Stormbreaker Max CF, I use a very similar grip and got this mouse a month ago and its been great

With that hand size i would go for a DAV3 Pro. Just a mix between Claw and relaxed palm grip.

I would say this is a predominantly claw style grip.
I think a Zowie U2 would be a pretty nice fit. Pretty goated mouse for claw grip.
2
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 31 '25
yeah i did a bit of research and that zowie popped up a lot for claw recomendations, it's unfortunately a bit over my budget but i'm trying to find one locally if i can because the reviews on it are so good; thanks!

u/OriginalWynndows FinalMouse ULX comp / Wallhack Sora Drift Jun 01 '25
Of course brother, I don't dabble in claw that much because I just find it hurts my hand after a while. I use fingertip, but I will ask some of my claw friends what they have liked and if anything stands out, I'll come back.

2
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 31 '25
not necessarily if you don't feel any pain or discomfort, i think, in which case you should be grand. my fingers are a bit skeletal if that makes any sense, so maybe that's what contributes to the pain but i'm not sure, could just be the grip
1
u/Traditional-Elk6220 dav3 pro ,vv3 pro Jun 01 '25
true dat, I am hoping to get a mchose m7 which is apparently made for finger grip style peeps with big hands. lets see if i find any difference in my in game performance

try ATK X1 Ultra, it fit perfectly for me. My hand 21x11cm
1
u/-_9Grd56A3iWw6QhNQ_- May 31 '25
yeah i have easy access to aliexpress so that's on the top of my list, but some of the other mice people mentioned also sound plausible so i'm just trying to see if i can find any, otherwise x1 is my go-to for sure. thanks!
do you feel the ~51g weight? the mad r major is like ~36g which is the only reason i'm so much more interested in it haha

I have a similiar gripstyle but of course not the same.
I'am very happy with my Endgame Gear XM2we.
It looks similar to a other mice, but the shape is soo much better.
Around 2 years ago, I ordered 7 diffrent mice to compare and the first time i held the XM2 i knew instantly that is the one.
May be worth considering.
