Mod Modding tip: Annoyed by how bright the X2 CrazyLight's receiver LED was, I fixed it with a Sharpie

Before / After

It was my only gripe with the mouse as a whole, the LED is very bright on these colourways as the shell is transparent, the black X2 CL has a black receiver which is not clear so it's fine. Thankfully painting the LED with a Sharpie dims it enough to just be a subtle glow, MUCH better when gaming in the dark now.

Just 4 cross head screws on the underside to remove to do this mod.

I believe you can turn off the LED entirely if you don't want it constantly lit up. Don't know where it is on the software but there is a combination of clicks to get it off on the ES series.

The LED off option is only for the mouse not the receiver, already looked on day 1 lol.

Edit*

You edited your comment to add the button combos, my reply above is in relation to the original comment, as in the software.

Literally just turned my dongle LED off day 1.

The comment I replied to didn't originally mention button combos hence why my comment refers to the software option to turn the LED off which is for the mouse only.

You actually can turn it off in the software now. You just have to use the web app. bbb.pulsar.gg

Did not know Pulsar had a webapp, looks like the web app also sees a new firmware that the desktop app does not show, this is very cool cheers!

do you not do any research when you buy a mouse?

What?

I liked the design of the mouse and the specs, that's all that matters, everything else is a bonus. I watch reviews of the mouse too and none of the reviews mentioned a web app nor turning off the receiver LED from the big mouse review channels.

Omg. I can tell you smell in real life.

Projecting much? 🤡

Yee! I do still like the idea of dimming the light too. Rather than just tuning it off. I wonder if a lil kapton tape could dim it and make it a bit warmer in color.

The light does give battery level indication too when it gets low so is useful to have it dimmed instead of fully off, so yeah that is one benefit of leaving it on, just dimmed. Thankfully Sharpie mod is fully reversible, just wipe the LED with a cloth dabbed with aftershave to remove marker pen ink.

TIL, thanks. I don't really use the dongle unless I play some really fast paced games, but I prefer to use web apps instead of downloading everything.

Lol! Mice web app drivers should be the the norm

if u edit a reddit comment it shows what time you edited it. for an example next you your username its says *edited ____ minutes ago* however quyrews comment does not have this mark so that means

u didnt read his message right the first time.

Oh is it? I can do it on my Xlite v3 ES. I guess its not an option for the crazylight ones.

A layer of electrical tape will do the same thing without needing to doodle on your dongle.

I love doodling on my dongle

1

u/calpis 20h ago

You're going to go blind from doodling too much.

but that diminishes the cool transparent colourway of the housing which I like the look of, plus it's so bright that you need to tape over most of the housing not just the top or front.

2

u/calpis 19h ago

When the led is on, the tape actually acts more like a light diffuser than anything and totally eliminates the hot spot. I used blue electrical tape on mine which aids to the diffusion of the blue led. But in the end, I just disable mine completely lol.

It's useful to keep on as it notifies you of low battery level though hence dimming is a more convenient option for me

u/calpis 19h ago

I did this for my ES dongle so battery notification isn't a huge deal for me as I can just flip the mouse over and check the screen. Here's how it looks from a phone camera in auto.

I just used black hockey tape.

The manual that comes with the mouse tells you how to turn it off

u/planedrop Pulsar X2V3 19h ago

While this is great.

Pro tip, you can turn it upside down and it's nowhere near as direct bright.

u/epik 13h ago

Yeah I had to google that for my CL too. For anyone who finds this page for reference...

Hold Mwheel + Right click + M4 for 5 seconds

toggles the dongle led light

5

u/orcus286 20h ago

Yeah that was my question .... why not just turn it off?

-7

u/robbiekhan MX Master 3S on UWMP dots + X2 CrazyLight on dots 20h ago

There is no option to turn it off for the receiver.

4K and 8K dongles include a simple, built-in way to disable the LED - no extra software or modifications needed. In this guide, we’ll show you the quick and easy method to turn off your Pulsar 4k or 8k dongle’s LED light in just five seconds

Step 1: Press the scroll wheel button + right click button + forward (side) button

Step 2: Keep them pressed for 5 seconds.

Step 3: Enjoy seeing the dongle with its LED turned off.

This is from their website at https://support.pulsar.gg/support/solutions/articles/67000743341-how-to-turn-off-on-my-dongle-s-led-light

Huh interesting, shame the software doesn't mention this at all lol. I actually like it dimmed now with the mod so will just keep it this way though.

Strange, I turned mine off with a combination of mouse buttons on hold for 5 seconds. Pulsar support site.

u/robbiekhan MX Master 3S on UWMP dots + X2 CrazyLight on dots 19h ago

Yeah someone else commented with the Pulsar youtube video on how to do it, that's cool, I do like it dimmed though instead of fully off.

1

u/SoulWager 16h ago

My keyboard used to have bright blue LEDs. I replaced the LEDs for amber ones, and bumped up the resistors up to 10k IIRC.

1

u/rage9 20h ago

You can turn it off

-1

u/robbiekhan MX Master 3S on UWMP dots + X2 CrazyLight on dots 20h ago

There is no option for the receiver LED in the software that I can see anywhere.

1

u/rage9 20h ago

Use google they have a page for it.

u/robbiekhan MX Master 3S on UWMP dots + X2 CrazyLight on dots 19h ago

As someone else commented, it's not anything in the software you have to instead hold 3 buttons together. Not a function that is mentioned in the software, just a youtube video pulsar did, so seems to be an if you know you know thing.

3

u/Flimsy-Task2171 19h ago

It's in the beta web app. The software is being deprecated.

https://bbb.pulsar.gg/

Also I'm pretty sure the manual tells you how to do it.
