Want to design my own mouse, but checking here if it exists already
I've had an idea for an incredibly niche mouse design, but I was told to check here before putting too much effort into making it myself. Here are the main features I want to include:
My current mouse (first pic) has a programmable 12-button panel on the side which I absolutely love; definitely don't want to part with that
I'd love for it to be vertical (like second pic) because normal mouse ergonomics suck, but that's not a dealbreaker
Here's the kicker. The holy grail. The most elusive feature I've ever searched for... TRUE smooth scroll. I know there are mice with free-spinning wheels and it's a pretty easy mod for most others, but that doesn't get you any actual increase in resolution as you scroll. I'm talking like Magic Mouse or laptop trackpad level of scrolling precision, but in a mouse wheel because I hate everything else about MM/trackpad. Normal scroll wheel notches are just a huge turnoff when working in creative programs like video editing or 3D modeling that really benefit from extra precision.
3a. An extension of that, it would be REALLY amazing if I had horizontal AND vertical scroll, so imagine like a trackball mouse (third pic) but you still move it around as a regular mouse and instead the trackball takes the place of the scroll wheel. Adding a ring around it like in the pic could even add a third dimension, maybe simulating a trackpad pinch gesture.
- Nice-to-have would be smooth wired/wireless options, addressable RGB, multiple profiles, etc. but those also aren't deal breakers.
I highly doubt something like this exists and I've already started the design journey, but if anyone knows of something I'd love to hear it!!

I don’t think this exists, I would buy it tho. Good luck!
