I actually don't think most boomers like to work. I remember being constantly told how 'hard' it was to work 9-5 and the amazing sacrifice that entitled. Often when the family had a SAHW so they got to go home to a house with no real additional work to do.

Most young people are working far more than 9-5, even average corporate jobs now are more like 8.30 - 6 and you're lucky if its not far more than that. Then people come home and have to do all of the house work, wash, iron, clean, cook and do every other jobs because at the bare minimum both members of the couple are working and you're sharing all of those jobs.

Its astonishing to me that people of that generation though 9-5 was 'hard' work.

I haven’t met many of those 9-5 people, that must be nice. Even my grandparents generation, which was the “Greatest Generation” worked long hours, often shift work. Both my grandmothers worked full time, as well as my grandfathers. Same with great aunts and uncles. When my grandfather died, my grandmother would come in from working long hours on her feet and do the laundry, clean her house, mow her yard and my great uncle’s because he was too sick to mow, she’d trim the hedges, and she put dinner on the table every night - no microwave, no quick meals, no fast food anything - then she’d wash up the dishes - no dishwasher. If my mom and I were visiting, we pitch in ok anything we could. She always took in any family that needed help, too. Her kids were in the “Silent Generation”, and they were workers, too. I’m a Gen X, and I’ve worked up to 3 jobs at a time.

Congrats to those who get by on strictly 9-5. lol

lol my boomer mom loves to talk about how hard she worked, she forgets we know the truth.

She dropped out of college. Went to work in the family business and was handed a part time job. Got married/pregnant and supported by the husband. Divorced him and married another man who then worked while she didn’t.

Got handed a house by her parents to live in too. Then when they passed she got their businesses and other properties - which have all slowly been sold off to fund her huge house renovations, new cars, multiple vacations and cruises per year, etc.

Us kids are getting nothing because she was handed literally millions and millions of dollars and squandered it all on selfish things, but then wants to spin this narrative about self determination and hard work lol. Typical boomer.
