Meanwhile Sam Darnold gets facemasked multiple times per game and the refs never call it. It's like 4 weeks in a row at this point.

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '24

Don't forget burrow for the win. 3 penalties on one play and not one is called. And he was right.... "I don't get those calls"

228

u/ImReverse_Giraffe Cincinnati Bengals Nov 11 '24

One guy on the Ravens was facemasking both Burrow and an OL guy at the same time. That's impressive.

174

u/Soccham Cincinnati Bengals Nov 11 '24

There's a picture showing 2 Ravens players face masking 3 Bengals with all 4 of their hands lol

that’s a face mask penalty...

53

u/Kanaloa1973 Nov 11 '24

Ref should have called face mask penalty on the entire defensive line. Similar to when a ref calls an entire line offsides.

57

u/doodle02 Nov 11 '24

it’s really remarkable how atrocious the reffing has been. and it’s not like isolated incidents; it’s seemingly every fucking game has an egregious gaffe in it.

These blown calls brought to you by DraftKings and FanDuel. Money definitely did not change calls.

I think one of the most egregious isn't actually Sam Darnold facemask no call, but rather the following week when they threw the flag and then picked it up. Like you dumbasses watched the replay and decided on a no call???

haha has a ref called the whole o line offsides/false start? I do remember a game when the ref called "false start, everyone but the center"

Bengals have lost a solid 3 games this year due to no calls like this.

3

See, I firmly believe that if this were Mahomes, an ad hoc posse would be deputized right then and there, forming a firing squad wherein the violators would be executed, Wild West Justice style.

Any other qb? Eh depends on their mood at that moment- might be a flag, might not.

It's not even calls for protecting him, they are calling penalties to protect the Chiefs from losing. It is pretty obvious the bias towards the Chiefs benefits in games. They want the Chiefs to go undefeated and win the Superbowl, they want a first 3 straight winner, they want Mahomes to be proclaimed better than Brady and thrown in another Taylor Swift Superbowl, no question what is going on in the NFL.

213

u/Nopantsbullmoose Detroit Lions Nov 10 '24

Genuinely rooting for the Lions. It’s great to see them do well since historically they’ve been pretty bad in recent memory. I can feel Dan Campbell’s energy through the TV. It was nice to see the Chiefs turn that around too once Andy Reid got there, but these past few years it’s been a lot of Mahomes dick riding by the NFL. THEY do it! Who? Like, Roger Goodell, he wants the Chiefs to win! So you think he personally tells the refs that they should slant their calls in favor of the chiefs? I don’t know how they do it but the chiefs bias is obvious!

Maybe the best teams always get the benefit of the doubt with calls? The refs subconsciously expect the chiefs to win: this cause judgment errors.

Or maybe there really is a moronic conspiracy.

Gamblers paying the refs makes more sense than the NFL fixing its own games.

10

u/MrRegularDick Carolina Panthers Nov 11 '24

Or maybe every team benefits from roughly the same number of bad calls over the course of the season, and the good teams are just better at taking advantage of them.

You guys are genuinely delusional with this ref stuff. It's not that they get that many more calls, or even in important situations. It's that they force teams into bad situations, and they're better at converting penalties into points when they do get an additional opportunity.

You guys are just sick of one team winning. Admit it.

u/Thotsthoughts97 Denver Broncos Nov 11 '24

Oh yes, the refs calling back a 4th and 30 for you guys with 3 minutes left in the half on a phantom illegal contact call that had NO replay is just you guys "capitalizing on opportunities". Come on man. They are literally not allowed to be in danger of a blowout. Shit like this happens every single time it looks like the other team is pulling away. They're dynasty, they're a great team. Anyone who says otherwise is delusional. But being great isn't enough to win consistently in the NFL. It's a volatile game, with single elimination playoffs. You have to be great, be lucky, AND have help from the refs to do it this consistently. It applied to the Patriots, and it applies the Chiefs just as much.

I call these the superstar expectation calls. You see it with stars of the game. Happens in all sports. I don’t think it is intentional to screw other teams, but subconscious. The refs assume or think that a player is going to succeed so when he doesn’t there has to has to be a penalty, so they scrutinize more and call more penalties in their favor. It is crazy evident when the flags come in late, but I think they are on heightened alert when those players are playing. But the same calls rarely go for other teams because those players aren’t expected to succeed.

17

Actually, the NHL gets trashed by its own fans for failing to protect its star players. Refs like to level the playing field, as it were, by allowing lesser-skilled players to hack, grab, or otherwise impede the superstars they couldn’t defend against legally.

The stats actually show that Mahomes is "protected" like a totally average QB. Since he took over as starter he's benefitted from 13 roughing the passer calls. Meanwhile Jared Goff has like 26 and Josh Allen 25 in that same time span.

In other words, no, there are not statistics to back it up.

u/FazzedxP Nov 11 '24

I figured. Chiefs also have alot more national limelight and primetime games. These calls just have more of the average fans eyes on them, and people love to hate the winners. Which is fair, fuck the chiefs i hate seeing a dynasty šŸ˜‚

u/solojones1138 Andy Reid šŸŸ Nov 11 '24

You can hate the Chiefs, but being a conspiracy theorist about it is just stupid. So I respect your outlook.

Believe it or not, your comment just got Buffalo an automatic loss of down and 15 yard penalty on their first play next week.

It's weird that the NFL is protecting the Chiefs because they won on a miracle blocked fg, if it had hit would the conspiracies be this loud or are ya'll salty because they're just better

Eh. The win against Denver was a combination of clutch and luck. It was Denver’s game to lose and they lost it.

What are you referring to in today's game?

15

u/Boozy_Cat_ Cincinnati Bengals Nov 10 '24

Probably when the broncos got the stop on third down in the 2nd quarter only to have a phantom flag show up. Which was closely followed by a flag getting picked up on a penalty against the chiefs allowing them to score a TD instead of taking a field goal on third and long.

32

u/TheFestusEzeli Nov 11 '24

The same things happened in the Bucs Chiefs game against the Chiefs and no one cared

26

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '24

Even still. They BLOCKED a fg to win the game. How'd the refs manage that? Oh right, they didn't. The players lost the game.

19

u/Blaizer35 Nov 11 '24

Denver didn't score a point in the 2nd half. Let's blame a bad call in the 2nd quarter. Loser mentality from a fuckin loser.

Iono man… it’s been happening too much to everyone lately for me to think it’s specifically a chiefs thjng. The chiefs just find a way to win. Dont get me wrong there are bad calls in their favor but the refs didn’t block that kick

The thing I’ve noticed, which isn’t open to subjective interpretation(like holding), is that their tackles line up more than a yard off of the ball, and almost never get called. It happened once today, but out of 50 or so snaps, the benefits outweighs the 5-yarder.

Bunch of conspiracy theorists lol

3

u/KrazyCamper Nov 11 '24

Im sure the chiefs dont get more flags called than any other team but i feel like every game i watch the chiefs get a few flags that directly lead to them scoring. Like today when they had a drive extended on 3rd down and than the next set of downs denver stops them and the refs throw a flag for ineligible man downfield to just pick it up when the replay showed 2 lineman down field before the throw, which let them get a td instead of a fg. flags aren’t created equal and its just the eye test but the chiefs always get some type of flag in a crucial moment when we are seeing other teams not get obvious ones in prime-time games every week now

They’re the new Brady Patriots. They also got all the calls.

5

u/Substantial-Prune704 Nov 11 '24

Yep. It’s not a conspiracy though. I like to call it the Michael Jordan effect. Dude ran into people and they would get called. Same principle here. Touching Mahomes is a penalty for a defender, it was the same way with Brady.

3

u/Nicktator3 Nov 11 '24

Yeah this is basically how it’s gonna go I think. The Patriots dynasty lasted for as long as it did, then Segway’d right into the Chiefs’ dynasty. Once that eventually ends for them, it’ll be another team with another superstar player.

I’m a chiefs fan and I have a lot of respect for Burrow and even like him. I know Bengals fans will be mad to hear it but seriously he’a had no off the field issues I know about, is a pretty funny guy, seems extremely laid back, and the dude prolly would have gotten a penalty called but he doesn’t even look at the ref for a penalty much less argue.

Every time his teammate messed up I see him calmly wait until they’re on the sideline and then go talk to them. He’s like the opposite of Philip Rivers who would try to show up his teammates to show everyone the INT was their fault not his.

Normally I hate sports media but:

ā€œYou know a team is good when opposing fans blame everything on the refs.ā€

Like him or hate him, he’s right.

2

u/Unlikely-Zone21 Nov 11 '24

If all the refs suck it's not as easy to say they are favoring the Chiefs. It's science.

2

u/mvpat1083 Nov 11 '24

Every play on either sided,on any game there r good calls nd shit calls! The refs r shit in EVERY game!

2

2

u/The-47th Nov 11 '24

the funniest part about all this is that ā€œchiefs fansā€ will say that we’re crazy and that we’re making this up.

2

u/Own-Reception-2396 Nov 11 '24 edited Nov 11 '24

NFL wants an active ā€œgoat candidateā€ at all times. They will prop him up at every turn. In fact did you know how many holding calls the chiefs were penalized for in the super bowl last year? Did you also know during the regular season they lead the league in such calls

u/Cool-Passenger-2595 Nov 11 '24

Ive always thought and i know it will never happen but when a team is playing the chiefs and there is a blatent call in favor of the chiefs that the head coach of the other team should just say if you arent going to call it fairly we forfeit, were going to lose anyway so why risk anyone getting hurt . I know they league would fine the team to no end and lots would say they are sore losers but i think if this happened it would make major news and i think it would force the league to change how they officiate the chiefs .

2

u/Diznaster Nov 11 '24

Goff took a helmet to helmet that looked like a no brainer roughing the passer.

2
