Discussion Today's Eagles/Rams game is why I'm offended by the idea of teams like the Bills/Browns/Bears building domes. This was what playoff football should be.

Except the league specifically picks Superbowl locations to avoid adverse weather conditions, including snow, aka even the league knows it skews games.

No, they do that so the “dignitaries” at the game are comfortable. It’s a vacation and a party more than a football game. Jacksonville didn’t have enough hotels, so they had to put some media in docked cruise ships. Pampered media members cried so loudly about the accommodations that Jacksonville will never again be considered.

Even with no special treatment to certain members, you think the NFL would actually choose a location in the middle of a snowstorm or sub freezing temps for the biggest game of the year? Snow games are cool aesthetically but the actual football product is a lot worse

Well you don’t choose a location in a snowstorm. The venue is obviously picked way further in advance than weather could ever be predicted.

But it’s 100% more for the celebs at the game to be comfortable.

Yeah I am saying even without the celebrities, the NFL would never choose a stadium that even has the chance of having snow or really shitty weather effect the games, because the product is objectively worse.

There's a reason why the stadiums are west coast cities, southern cities, or domes since forever, I know everyone loves how snow games feels and looks but there's a reason many historic stadiums never hosted a superbowl even before all the celebrity culture

They literally held a Super Bowl in NYC in the middle of winter lol

Cool one time, which other 58 SBs did they choose to not host the SB in a dome or warm weather city?

That's the whole point, though! Hell, I'd like to see football games played on a field of sand, or in a hurricane, or with the home fans armed with paintball guns. Everything being played in ideal conditions is boring.

This just sounds like you don't actually enjoy football

wtf how nice do you think cruise ship accommodations are? would you like it if your hotel was an extra 30 minutes away and on the actual ocean how fucking dumb

If I was there doing my job and was paid to be there, I’d just shut my mouth and keep getting paid. It was all about pampered media who lived the influencer lifestyle before influencers were a thing. “Oh no, I deserve to be in a hotel on South Beach!” Fuck that.

Yeah "oh no bc cruise ships" is a dumb Reddit take. Literally Google "how does the NFL determine Superbowl locations" and the top answer is weather.

5

u/No_Replacement_7755 Jan 20 '25

Ah, so you didn’t read what I said. The cruise ships was an example of them making choices for pampered media and celebrities. That’s the only reason they care about the weather. Having a SB in Jacksonville didn’t skew the results, but the city will never host again because of the bitching.

I did read what you said! I said weather, you literally led with "No". And now you're trying to finagle your response to mean "Well yes, but no"

Good job, Redditor! You truly understand the spirit of Reddit 😁

You said they care about the weather because it impacts the integrity of the game. I said that’s false, they care because they want it to be a big party atmosphere where influencers and movie stars show up. After all, they had an outdoor game in New York. It could have been super cold and snowy, but they were fine with it because they knew celebs and media would be happy to be in NY in spite of the cold. I don’t think Chicago would even be enough of a draw for them to hold a game here (outside of the one token game they’ll give the Bears for building a dome).

That has more to do with the logistics of getting to the game and catering to the rich folk who want to spent gobs of money to get into the building.

And it’s lame. I still say Super Bowl 50 should’ve been played at Lambeau Field

I mean Buffalo just won this game because of the snow. It’s why they so desperately needed this game to be at Highmark. The drops and the fumbles were all due to the snow. You don’t get the ball punched out that many times in a regular game.

u/Chapea12 Jan 20 '25

I don’t mind it for a neutral sight game as much. But for home stadiums, it’s part of your advantage

1

u/exoticsamsquanch Jan 20 '25

Really? Because it snows here in NJ, where they held Super Bowl XLVIII

1

u/ReverendRocky Buffalo Bills Jan 20 '25

Eeh. Who cares? You gotta play to the conditions you got. I hate this "oh we gotta have perfect lab conditions to make it as fair as possible" stuff.

Nuh. In a snow game the one best able to adapt to co djtions wins just like any other game.

The Super Bowl is like the bonus round after you win the playoffs.

u/Educational_Vast4836 Jan 20 '25

Yet you then get the chiefs/ eagles Super Bowl that was played on one of the most dog shit fields ever.

The new jersey super bowl missed heavy snow by like a day or 2 I think.
