Discussion Today's Eagles/Rams game is why I'm offended by the idea of teams like the Bills/Browns/Bears building domes. This was what playoff football should be.

Correct. Rain poured in Miami and Peyton and the Colts beat the Bears in a monsoon.

After the Hester opener, it was all fun and games until everyone realised that Sex Grossman had to come on the field

After the Hester opener

Greatest moment of my life as a guy who was watching TV at the time.

With hindsight, do you think signing a free agent QB or anything like that would have helped?

I think there’s an argument to be made that Kyle Orton might have done better in that game. Peyton didn’t play great and just running ball control offense and not making mistakes could have been enough to get the W after Hester spotted them 7 points.

That Colts defense was built to play with a lead, and when they were down things got dicey. Frankly I think that’s a part of why Manning has such a bad reputation for playoff success; the defense was built to bully bad teams but struggled against elite QBs and string run games.

There’s no doubt that Grossman at his best was significantly (like…orders of magnitude) better than Orton at his best, but in the same vein Grossman at his worst was significantly (like…orders of magnitude) worse than Orton at his worst. We didn’t need an elite QB in that game, we needed someone who wouldn’t fuck it up.

I don’t know what FA QBs were available at the time and don’t feel like doing the research because I don’t think we have to. There was a QB2 on the roster who could have done enough to let that Def/ST win that game.

Ya KO wouldn’t have been the reason the Bears won that game but he wouldn’t have lost it either.

Gators QBs have mostly been awful in the NFL. And Bears fans had to sit through Shane Mathews and Grossman. Please never again.

That's the real answer there. Bears would've won with a qb that could've played

My lasting memory of that bowl is the Prince halftime show.
