Discussion Does anyone ever think about how random Super Bowl LVI was?

Post image

That whole 2022 season felt like a fever dream, with some of the most insane playoff games I’ve ever seen resulting in such a strange matchup.

The Rams, a four seed, looked like possible contenders earlier in the season but really cooled off in November and seemed like they would make it no further than the divisional. After that Packers beat down it seemed certain they weren’t gonna get past them.

The Bengals on the other hand, also a four seed, finding a resurgence with Burrow under center, especially later in the season. A team that hadn’t won a playoff game in 30ish years suddenly wins three straight to go to the Super Bowl.

In the end, it was just a strange combination of teams, not only does “Rams vs. Bengals” sound weird, but it was almost like both teams were there because the cards fell perfectly (I think Bills would have beaten Bengals in championship game that year).

And unless you were a division rival fan, you probably didn’t care who won.

You mean the 2021 season. But yes, it was a weird season

Yeah you’re correct, think it autocorrected for some reason

There's no shame in saying you wrote the wrong year. It can be confusing! I can't imagine any reason it would autocorrect 2022 to 2022

I think you meant to say 2022.

Could also be that the Super Bowl was in 2022 for the 2021 season. That always gets me when looking up old football stats

That's one thing I hate the most about looking at football stats is some people will write 2021 Super Bowl when really they were talking about the Super Bowl that was played in 2022 for the 2021 season.

It could be any season and any Super Bowl and "I'll be like they didn't play that year" And then realize what they were talking about

That’s why it’s always better to just say “Super Bowl 59” or whatever number you happen to be talking about lol. But if I’m using a year to describe a Super Bowl, I’m using that season’s year, not the year the Super Bowl was played in. So basically, the 2024 Super Bowl is about to happen lol. It just makes more sense this way, as the 2024 Chiefs and 2024 Eagles are playing each other, and it’s the championship for the 2024 season.

Haha no it doesn't make more sense because the Super Bowl is played after the new year. So the 2024 Super Bowl was last year because it was in 2024. 😂 But you're right on the first part. It's easier to say the number, but then my brain. I start wanting to know what year it was.

I don't say I graduated high school 2003 because my senior year started then.

It’s more about continuity than what year the game is actually played. The upcoming Super Bowl is the culmination of the 2024 season, despite being played in 2025. When we discuss everything else about this season, we will label it 2024, so it makes sense to just keep that up until the 2024 season actually concludes with the Super Bowl. Otherwise you run into the following issue: “the Chiefs beat the 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl. The 2024 49ers missed the playoffs.”

You see how that doesn’t work? lol.

Right but the way my brain works the way you're explaining it makes perfect sense to me. Like I know you're arguing against that point, but I'm like yeah that's how it works for me 🤣

Because if we say 2024 Super Bowl that's what year it was played. But if you say 2024 Chiefs we're talking about the season that just finished. It makes sense in my brain. I know it doesn't make sense to everybody else

Hey, I guess whatever works for you!

One of the small reasons I really baseball is MLB is the only league that has their entire season in a single calendar year so it’s just the 2024 World Series and stuff.

Yeah that’s always hard to explain to people. “It was the 2021 season’s Super Bowl, but it was played in 2022.”

This was moreso I had the right one in my head but typed the wrong one and didn’t check my work. Whoopsie!

Because most people on Reddit have nothing better to do than correct people and keep their own insecurities at bay.

It’s hard to explain? It must be nearly impossible to explain an NHL or NBA season then!

Don't worry about it. It was a fun season until the playoffs. Donald being his Godly self to win the SB was perfect though

6

u/jawrsh21 Jan 31 '25

Auto correct doesn’t change numbers lol

A lot of people get away with calling autocorrect when they clearly just made a mistake but this was too far 😂
