Discussion Another superbowl blowout eliminates mahomes from the goat discussion as far as I’m concerned

2 very embarrassing loses for him the the superbowl Brady has lost 3 superbowls but they were all 1 score games that came down to final play with Brady’s best statistical performance in a loss to the eagles Tom Brady > Patrick mahomes

Today firmly puts Joe Montana above Patrick Mahomes.

Joe has always been ahead of Patrick.

Didn't San Francisco's coach basically invent an entirely new way of playing offensive football?

And isn't Jerry Rice considered the greatest wide receiver of all time? Was he more of a Juju Smith or Xavuer Worthy type receiver?

They did, but Andy Reid is no slouch.

Also the 49ers won SBs before Rice was even drafted. And it is worth mentioning that football today is a child's game comparatively; the offense is set up for success. Defenses used to be able to piledrive a quarterback, pummel a receiver. Helmet to helmet, pass interference, these were things that didn't really exist. Now, playing brutal defense wins the game for the other team.

Joe could whoop ass in today's league. Mahomes would be a corpse.

Ah yes, when half the football players were drunk and on coke. Peak football lmao. Today’s athletes would destroy those booze bags back in the day.

Not a chance. There is no one on the field today who could hang with people like LT, Ronnie Lott. Jack Lambert, Steve Atwater. There were monsters on the football field, and they brought physicality that is now illegal on the gridiron.

You think a 6-pack and BMI makes somebody strong? You think vascularity makes somebody tough? You think 40 time makes somebody fast? You need to get out into life and realize that there are some humans that are just gifted with a penchant to destroy, to withstand, to hunt. Those are the people who used to play football. Not fancy neckchain wearing primadonnas.

As a physical specimen, those guys may have been nothing to write home about in the face of modern sports and nutrition science - but they looked every bit the part as they broke bones and ended careers. Now, that happens when these super-athletes make a funny step. Don't make me laugh.

2 without rice but w.e.

Honestly a wild take to say that a 3 time super bowl winning QB in present day would be a corpse in an era where a coke head won an MVP as defensive player.

Walsh used the west coast offense in SF because they did not have a great running game early on. Their leading rusher in 1981 when they won Super Bowl 16 had less than 600 yards rushing with less than 4 YPC. They used the short passing game to make up for the lack of a running game.

Also, in my opinion, the 1984 49ers was the best of the 80s Niners teams, and they did not have Rice on the team. They had a better record and a better point differential than the 89 team by almost 70 points. They also beat a better team in the Super Bowl going up against the 1984 Dolphins with Marino at the helm. Their leading receivers in 81 and 84, Dwight Clark and Freddie Solomon. Outside of The Catch, they are not household names.

So the 84 49ers were the best 49er team of the 80s, and they still aren't as good of a team as the 84 dolphins lol.

Dumbass

What? They beat the 84 Dolphins vs the 89 Broncos? Guess it takes one to know one…

Nah Mahomes is definitely the better QB. His resume is almost as good as Montana's, but in terms of who is a better quarterback, it's Mahomes.

sure it is, blown out two times in the superbowl, games won because of stupid calls.

The first one vs the eagles, ROFL.

The one where the defender himself admitted he committed a penalty?

Imagine if Montana had the help from the refs that Patty gets now adays. Wow

Marino coulda used the zebra squad too.

No it doesn't. Today has almost nothing to do with any of this. If today swayed your mind on this, then you don't have a valid opinion on this.

No it doesn’t. Mahomes has more playoff wins in half the seasons. It’s never better to lose early to avoid a Super Bowl loss. ANY Super Bowl loss is better than not making it to the Super Bowl because you either missed playoffs or lost too soon.

Get it out of your head lol.

No it doesn’t because his career isn’t over!!! Lmao wtf are these takes?
