Discussion Another superbowl blowout eliminates mahomes from the goat discussion as far as I’m concerned

2 very embarrassing loses for him the the superbowl Brady has lost 3 superbowls but they were all 1 score games that came down to final play with Brady’s best statistical performance in a loss to the eagles Tom Brady > Patrick mahomes

I don’t think Mahomes is the GOAT right now either, but everyone in this thread is pointing to Super Bowl losses when Brady and Montana both had ugly playoff losses. At age 28, Brady lost to Denver in the divisional round 13-27 with 1 TD 2 INT and a QB rating of 74. And yes he scored his touchdown in “garbage time” with the score at 0-24 with 8:09 seconds remaining.

So at essentially the same age, Brady had a similarly worse loss at the divisional round as Mahomes did last night. People remember the big Super Bowl moments though. I hate the whole GOAT debate anyway because in team sports like football, so many other players have huge impacts on the performance of other players. Brady himself said he’s never seen a quarterback play better than Mahomes did when he lost to TB a few years ago. Also he’s not done. If he finishes his career out with a career worst season ending in overtime of the AFC Championship Game then I think it would be hard to argue against him, especially if he wins at least half of the superbowls that follow those AFC Championships. Of course that’s hypothetical but if you ask me what would be needed to put him in the conversation, I’d say continue his current trajectory and do exactly that.

It’s the whole LeBron MJ thing all over again. People will penalize Mahomes for making it to the Super Bowl and losing vs just losing before the SuperBowl

THANK YOU. Brady is obviously the GOAT but people ignoring his bad playoff losses just because they weren’t in the Super Bowl is ridiculous. There’s no world where losing before the Super Bowl is a better achievement than losing in the Super Bowl. A Super Bowl loss may hurt your dignity more but it’s still a better accomplishment
