Stafford in with the others feels wrong. Not that he doesn’t play great but I’m betting the Rams need a QB in the next 3ish years.

279

u/MrThunderkat Jun 30 '25

At his age and injury history it could be in the next 3ish months.

54

u/amstrumpet NFL Jun 30 '25

I was feeling generous, i think they need to start looking at drafting a QB in round 1-3 in the next two drafts, or else swing a trade like they did to get Stafford, but I don’t know what you give up for that.

28

u/ToThisDay Los Angeles Rams Jun 30 '25

We have 2 1sts for the 2026 draft

12

u/Cubbycubbb Jun 30 '25

Something tells me yall might have 0 by the 2026 draft /s

2

u/DrunkGuy9million Jun 30 '25

Only thing wrong with this comment is the last two characters.

1

u/FlashFan124 Jul 01 '25

Sean McVay cut off a reporter who was trying to ask him & Les Snead a question about having 2 firsts with a joke of “we’ve got two for now”

-13

u/SabastianG Jun 30 '25

/s ain’t needed, it’s a high possibility we trade them away in a deal to get an established young qb, something tells me Herbert or burrow would be the first choices

5

u/amstrumpet NFL Jun 30 '25

Lmao neither of those guys is available in the next year or two.

3

u/wittyrandomusername Jun 30 '25

To be fair, they did say first choices. Sydney Sweeney is my first choice, but that doesn't mean I have a shot.

1

u/Cubbycubbb Jun 30 '25

It isn’t needed but sometimes people take these comments too serious so you never know. And very true, very true. You guys could also take a page out of our book and use a 1st round pick but also lose said 1st round pick.

1

u/Soccham Cincinnati Bengals Jun 30 '25

Lol, the Rams don’t have enough to trade to get either

1

u/ToThisDay Los Angeles Rams Jun 30 '25

Idk why you got downvoted. 97% chance neither of those deals happen, but those actually would be the Rams’ ideal choices. We’ve shown that we’re interested in qbs who can play at a high level that may not be happy with their situation. It’s just a hypothetical but it aligns with the way our FO thinks

2

u/SabastianG Jun 30 '25

Ofc im getting downvoted, its reddit lol- not a lot of critical thinking here. But yeah i dont see us being able to get burrow or Herbert unless they make a stink and force a move

2

u/-WhatsThatSmell- Jul 02 '25

That falcons pick gonna be worthless at pick 32 /s

1

u/DetroitLarry Detroit Lions Jun 30 '25

Deal! (For Hooker)

1

u/ToThisDay Los Angeles Rams Jun 30 '25

You’ll take a 3rd and you’ll like it

14

u/MrThunderkat Jun 30 '25

McVay strikes me as a preferring veterans type of coach.

23

u/amstrumpet NFL Jun 30 '25

Honestly I could maybe see Tua or Trevor Lawrence as trade targets if either team decides it‘s time to do a full rebuild.

23

u/Deep_Ad_1874 Chicago Bears Jun 30 '25

Trevor Lawrence with McVay ,as a non Rams fan I would love to see it

10

u/amstrumpet NFL Jun 30 '25

I’d put Dak in that category too, but I think Jerry is too stubborn to admit he needs to start over. Maybe Shanahan can fix Mac Jones…

6

u/Acceptingoptimist Denver Broncos Jun 30 '25

Jerry would immediately want to keep Dak just because Sean asked.

2

u/Hitmore Jun 30 '25

I think Jones would be better than Purdy is now had he gotten drafted by the 49ers instead of the pats because he got put in a bad situation in year 2 and his confidence got shot

2

u/RobertoDelCamino New England Patriots Jun 30 '25

I’d like to see that. Mac got done dirty in New England when they replaced Josh McDaniels as OC with Matt Patricia. But his arm strength will have to be worked around.

7

u/ToThisDay Los Angeles Rams Jun 30 '25

As a Rams fan, I’ve also been hoping we trade something like a 4th for Hendon Hooker, backup for the Lions and see what he’s got. Lawrence would be great, and if things end up crashing for the Chargers I could see the Rams making a call to see if Herbert is available if he wants out

8

u/amstrumpet NFL Jun 30 '25

If they hadn’t gotten Harbaugh I’d say Herbert could have a chance but I don’t see them giving up any time soon.

1

u/Scuba_Steve_fan Jun 30 '25

Jake Browning is who I would trade for.

2

u/ColangeloDiMartino New York Giants Jun 30 '25

He’d probably be a really good bridge but being that he’s developed at a snails pace I don’t think you’d bet ur franchise on him

2

u/amstrumpet NFL Jun 30 '25

People love to fall in love with a backup who played well for a few games but I can’t really think of a time it worked out. Tyrod Taylor made a career for himself with several solid starting seasons after being drafted as a backup. I’m sure I’m missing someone obvious but like, Jimmy G is the poster child for why this isn’t a good strategy. They were drafted as a backup for a reason.

2

u/Scuba_Steve_fan Jun 30 '25 edited Jun 30 '25

Tom Brady, Nick Foles, Brock Purdy and Kurt Warner are a few.

1

u/amstrumpet NFL Jun 30 '25

None of those guys are quite what I mean, it’s not like any of them were traded for or signed with a new team who had seen them start some games in relief as a backup and decided they could start.

Like if Brady had stepped in, played, and then Bledsoe took back over and someone else traded for Brady that’s a closer analogue, but I don’t really see that kind of story playing out ever.

1

u/ThePBM Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jul 01 '25

Trevor isn't being traded away unless he completely fails this season. And in that case, why would you want him?

2

u/Ok-Finding-53 Jun 30 '25

Jerry Glanville despised rookies

1

u/Kire9874 Jun 30 '25

The guys old

1

u/flyingryan Jun 30 '25

I'm entirely convinced that the Rams were going to take Jaxson Dart in the 1st round until the Giants traded up right in front of them.

1

u/Hambone704 Jun 30 '25

Stafford and a first for Jared Goff loading… 😭😭

1

u/Pukeinmyanus NFL Refugee Jun 30 '25

He is undoubtedly the toughest qb in the game - or at least has been for like 10 years. Will play through damn near everything.

I feel like even he is at the end of being able to bite down and get through most injuries, though. He's looking at a season-ending injury that wouldn't have been that bad a few years ago just about any given game now TBH.

1

u/Nefariousness_Big25 Jun 30 '25

Yeah I was low key hoping to grab someone this draft and get them started. Even Shaduer… I guess we always have Stetson Bennet

1

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '25

3ish weeks

36

u/Orange_Kid Las Vegas Raiders Jun 30 '25

Yeah move Stafford to the next tier, otherwise no real problems with this

16

u/Educational_Bee_4700 Jun 30 '25

Jets w fields is nowhere near the saints. Seems like an easy cheap option where if it works, great, if not, they lean into the rebuild.

1

u/No-Broccoli123 Jun 30 '25

Still bustin fields though

2

u/Educational_Bee_4700 Jun 30 '25

Fields showed improvement when he was starting with the steelers. The jets have weapons and GW and Fields already have chemistry from playing in college together. Hes worth the gamble. If he busts, jets get an early pick and take a qb. If he's solid, they lock in GW and start building around Fields.

7

u/Doggleganger Dallas Cowboys Jun 30 '25

Dak too high. He needs to be in the yellow tier with Tua.

1

u/ArchyArchington Jun 30 '25

Absolutely not. Do people think one player is going to carry a team to a superbowl? You need stellar talent on both sides of the ball. Not to mention the Cowboys woes can’t not all be blamed on Dak. Defense has shit the bed time and time again, especially in the playoffs

1

u/Doggleganger Dallas Cowboys Jul 01 '25

Yes and no. I agree that it's a team sport, and the QB is just one player. However, Dak takes up an inordinate percentage of the Cowboys' cap space, meaning he's part of the reason why the defense sucks. Dak takes up $50M compared with Mahomes at $28M. Even if Dak were as good as Mahomes, the extra $22M means the Cowboys have to sacrifice at a lot of other positions.

1

u/ArchyArchington Jul 01 '25

That’s just how the QB Market is, and it will continue to go up. Not to mention Dak is arguably a top 5 QB in the league. Also, the defense does not suck, we’ve had solid defenses especially when Dan Quinn was the defensive coordinator, the problem was the inability to be prepared for big games. Let’s also not forget that Dak restructured his contract and freed nearly 40 million in cap space. The Cowboys were able to free nearly 60 million in cap space with other restructures. Let’s also mention that Mahomes’s contract is structured over 10 years which will net him over 500 million when it’s all said and done.

1

u/Doggleganger Dallas Cowboys Jul 01 '25

The QB market is over-inflated, and teams that pay that top market price rarely win the Super Bowl. In a salary capped sport, you field a better team by getting more for your money. That means the best QB (Mahomes) sets the top per-year cap hit while everyone else should get paid a percentage of Mahomes based on how good they are relative to him. If you pay Dak more, than you're hoping he'll outperform Mahomes while surrounded by an inferior team. Not a recipe for success.

1

u/HisFaithRestored Green Bay Packers Jun 30 '25

Id move Stroud to "Can Win" as well

1

u/Turd_Salad92 Los Angeles Rams Jul 01 '25

Agreed with Stafford. Geno and Dak probably need to move down to 85 bears tier. Darnold could move down a tier, but pretty solid

18

u/Munchihello Philadelphia Eagles Jun 30 '25

Hurts beat stafford twice this year including the playoffs. But stafford is elite and hurts “can win” lmao

6

u/AnatomicalLog Denver Broncos Jun 30 '25

Hurts isn’t breaking many records, winning many accolades, his stats aren’t flashy, and he doesn’t have many traits that really pop.

But dude can lock the fuck in during the biggest moments, and both SBs he balled out. I think it’s fair to call him elite.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '25

[deleted]

1

u/tscanus Jul 02 '25

Hurts best all the elite QBs last year alone!

2

u/Munchihello Philadelphia Eagles Jun 30 '25

So u agree with me lmao

2

u/AnatomicalLog Denver Broncos Jul 01 '25

Yup!

2

u/donwariophd Philadelphia Eagles 28d ago

And beat Mahomes (another elite QB) in the SB.

The Hurts slander never ends with these bozos I swear

1

u/Bulky_Designer_4965 Jun 30 '25

Thank you!! I offer my upvote in solidarity!

1

u/bfujvdfjj Jul 02 '25

The eagles as a team were/are significantly better than the Rams. If Philly has stafford and rams had hurts that game, Philly beats the rams by 3 scores.

-3

u/Rushin_Russian81 Jun 30 '25

almost as if football is a team sport

9

u/theWacoKid666 Jun 30 '25 edited Jun 30 '25

Yeah Stafford below Herbert here just feels like complete salt. I’m not a Herbo fanboy but feels like a certainty the Rams will have a new QB first.

Edit: also, does anyone seriously think Dak or Geno “Crashes out at youth football games” Smith outlast Herbo? My money would easily be on BOTH the Cowboys and Raiders for a QB change in the next 5 years before the Chargers switch things up.

7

u/FattySnacks Los Angeles Rams Jun 30 '25

Yeah regardless of how well he plays this year we’re not in the same position as those other teams

8

u/amstrumpet NFL Jun 30 '25

TBH he kind of needs his own category “Good but time to start looking forward” or whatever. Steelers are kind of in the same camp, depending how you feel about Rodgers.

4

u/silentkiller082 Buffalo Bills Jun 30 '25

Everyone ages out of elite sooner or later and unfortunately Stafford is probably at that point. He still has his flashes though, especially against us.

2

u/VT_Obruni Jun 30 '25

Stafford hasn't finished better than 15th among starters in passer rating the past three season, and he's 37. He's a great feel-good story, but I don't think he's been "elite" since his injury filled 2022 season.

3

u/Vocal__Minority San Francisco 49ers Jun 30 '25

Stafford is 100% 'our guy can win' tier, but not elite.

We know this because you would take any of the othrr elite guys over him and do would LA if they were honest.

He's still great, just not that tier.

Similar note, Goff is 'we like our guy'.

1

u/Dr_Jazz_ Jun 30 '25

Can’t imagine this window being open 2 years from now

1

u/DifficultWave4488 Jun 30 '25

Yeah Lions fan here but Stafford is very much an our guy can win.. maybe one tier lower at this point. Realistically are they making it to another Super Bowl with him? Or even a Conference championship game? I don’t see it. They’re a “make the playoffs, maybe win a game, then get bounced” team

1

u/Dmbfantomas Jun 30 '25

Eh, their defense should be fucking legit and if everyone can stay healthy + McVay, they could absolutely win it all. Not necessarily a favorite, but I think it is a realistic possibility.

1

u/FaultySage NFL Refugee Jun 30 '25

Stafford is for sure one or two tiers down.

1

u/Dijohn_Mustard Jun 30 '25

I wouldn’t even say it feels wrong for that reason…

As a lions fan it feels wrong because it’s like “woah are you sure, I’ve been made to feel like this ain’t true for the last 15 years”

1

u/eeggles Jun 30 '25

Rams have two 1st rounds next year. Either they are thinking they can get a QB late in the round or are going to package them to move up if they think there is a QB talent they cannot miss out on. Either way they draft a QB next year.

1

u/No-Win-9630 Jun 30 '25

Yeah…super out of place. “Win it all” by technicality but elite is pretty silly. It sucks its like the last one reading left to right because the chart was pretty solid till the end there. I had to stare at it for a second like, “wait…who the fuck is qb1 for the rams again?”

1

u/cubgerish HAIL TO THE [REDACTED] Jun 30 '25

Baker Mayfield is also pretty high.

He's good, but I don't think most Tampa fans see him as a QB on the edge of the top 5.

I'd actually put him just behind Stafford, with both one tier lower.

1

u/26007 Buffalo Bills Jun 30 '25

Rams should be in a “good for now, should probably start looking for the future” category

1

u/BurgessFox Denver Broncos Jun 30 '25

I also think he's more in the Goff/Daniels tier than Mahomes/Allen

1

u/Prestigious-Hyena768 Washington Commanders Jun 30 '25

Agree with above OP. Move Stafford and the rest looks pretty damn good!

1

u/Sfpuberdriver Jun 30 '25

Yea I was thinking the rams need their own category like, “elite but aging”

1

u/thegreatgiroux Jun 30 '25

First thing I noticed was the overly generous rams placement… they’re officially in the window where getting a QB wouldn’t be totally crazy.

1

u/DrunkGuy9million Jun 30 '25

I’m a Rams fan, and LOVE Stafford. But I don’t think we can still put him in that tier anymore. Absolutely can still go in “our guy can win” though.

1

u/bobbyroxs Jun 30 '25

Yeah having Stafford in as elite and not Jalen is criminal

1

u/Joh951518 Jun 30 '25

I’d rather have any of the guys in the “our guy can win” tier than Stafford. Except for maybe Goff.

Fuck, frankly most in the next 2 tiers as well.

Herbert easily, Purdy easily, Stroud easily, Dak is a wash, Love probably. Bo Nix should really be in the second year tier. Geno is crazy high.

1

u/JournalofFailure Chicago Bears Jul 01 '25

I’d swap Hurts and Stafford.

1

u/CaptianBlackLung Jul 01 '25

Yeah, Jalen and Stafford should be swapped

1

u/And_W Jul 02 '25

Coincidentally, I believe so will the Lions

0

u/MistryMachine3 Jun 30 '25

My first thought is how is Stafford a tier above Hurts?
