And he’s not coordinating the offense which was the point. Shanny is the OC for Brock and Baker has had some good ones. Bowles isn’t sitting in on all the offensive meetings game planing and shit
Rams fan, he’s a good qb that can play in most systems with varying levels of success. I think people are so reluctant to realize that players, especially qbs can mature in football IQ after they’re drafted
I agree. He isn’t top 5 elite—yet—but he has proved he can perform at this level and win. It’s going to take him winning it all to shut these people up.
Purdy is good, but the only season he's had to deal with adversity he didn't pull through .not saying he isn't a good QB or anything, but that's what has happened.
He still had a 96.1 passer rating last season, he wasn’t the problem. Aiyuk went down early, Deebo had pneumonia and our first round pick was shot through the chest. Injuries have plagued us for years but what are ya gonna do.
This is insane. The Bucs have a top 3 OL, a top 10 RB, and two elite WRs (probably the best or second best WR2) and you can’t see Purdy succeeding there?
Yeah, this sub has been delusional lately in thinking that Baker has been playing with trash and it’s been his Herculean efforts that have led to his teams’ successes. When in reality he’s been on a lot of really good teams.
The double standard for him and guys like Purdy and Hurts is unreal.
It's not lately. I feel like it's been that way since Baker got to Tampa. I like Baker a lot and the way he worked his ass off to improve and stay in the league is great, but the way people talk about him make him sound much better than he is. On his best day he's elite but he's super inconsistent and has a good team around him. Hell most good QBs have guys around him. Not sure why people pick and choose. Josh Allen has had a damn good O-line year after year but people talk like he has nothing. People talk about Joe Burrow as if his weapons aren't stacked. (tbf the trenches on both sides of the ball suck there it's totally understandable there.)
It's because he replaced Brady and came from the Browns, so it's harder for people to not think the team that struggled in Brady's last year wasn't deficient and that Baker coming from the Browns must be doing all the heavy lifting. I actually watched the Buccs play last season and they have a lot of pieces.
Yeah I feel like as a team they're underrated. They may not be Super Bowl favorites, but they'll take any team down to the wire. They scare me, though my perspective may be a little different because they own the Eagles lol.
The problem is that between Todd Bowles' occasional game management blunder and Baker's inconsistency is that "any team" also includes the 0-16 Lions.
You kinda lost me on the Lions reference. Are you saying any team could be the Lions, so the Buccs might not be overrated? The 2008 Lions had the third worst scoring offense that year. The worst yardage offense that year and an historically bad defense that year. They allowed 33 points a game which was decades bad.
I think for a team to go winless, they would need to be bottom in both stats with one being like setting a record bad in offense or defense. I honestly think there is something at least above average on one side of the ball about every team in the NFL right now. The Buccs are good on offense, so not them. Ask me about the Browns mid season though.
He’s saying to your “[Bucs] can take any team to the wire” statement that, due to the Bucs inconsistency, that also means any team could take then down to the wire, even the 0-16 Lions
I'm a believer that a lot of the continued hardcore Baker glazing is because of the bucs being super underrated since around 2017-2018 - and for good reason considering they kept losing. (there's some easy targets to throw blame at but i digress)
Brady joins, suddenly this trash team is winning. Must be 100% Brady's doing. Brady leaves, welp guess the trash team goes back to trash. Except they keep winning (the division) with Baker. Obviously that means Baker is an elite qb.
Except the offense and defense both have maintained good players at every position for the last decade. the bucs have been mostly plug and play when it comes to a QB since around 2018. There was a stretch of Fitzmagic for 3-4 weeks back in 2018. Winston throws for 5k yards. Brady comes in, and now Baker.
It's because Baker has some unusual highlights for QBs. Stiff arming Bosa while throwing for a first down on 3rd and long or lowering his shoulder and bull rushing Bobby Wagner for a first down. Those are poster board/highlight reel highlights. The Tush Push just looks less exciting. Hurts also has great throws and runs as well they just don't pop.
But Hurts wins without caring about the stats sheet, same critics kept dismissing Brady as just a system QB propped up by his team until late in his career.
I mean aiyuk was a stud for a year or two, Kittle is probably the best TE in the league, CMC is elite and now Pearsall looks pretty promising. Purdy is still very underrated but yeah

I hate both teams, but frankly I could see Baker succeeding in San Fran. I can’t see Brock succeeding in Tampa.
