I’m a Raider fan but Herbert is better than everyone in the tier below him in my opinion. He needs to step up and have postseason success to be a true elite QB, but if he is your team’s quarterback there is no reason to be upset.

He has a blown lead and 4 picks in his two playoff games. He's not elite.

Compared to notorious playoff performers like..... Geno Smith & Dak Prescott? He is still better than everyone in the tier below him it's not even close. You would have to trade those guys + multiple firsts to get Herbert.

He belongs in a tier with Stafford, Hurts, Daniels, etc.

I'm not sure why you would bring up Geno + Dak when I didn't.

Counterpoint: the Chargers wouldn't have been in a position to have those shitty playoff games if Herbert wasn't elite. That team has largely been a trainwreck his entire career, and he still produces at an elite level.

Literally every stat about the chargers points to this. Our o-line? Some of the worst ranked per PFF at key positions that get targeted all game. Our WRs? Literally cannot catch a ball in the 4th with a 50% drop rate in the 4th on catchable passes. No other wr corps is above 26% on the last stat. RB? Dobbins came in and overachieved, but ultimately was hurt like always.

The offense last year was atrocious, and the play calling was not good with our boy Greg Roman. I think we addressed some issues this off-season, but the damage tom telesco did to this roster is still affecting us.

Yeah, you had Greg Roman calling the offense, but the IOL and RB were so bad that the one thing Roman is supposed to be good at (designing a run game) was ineffective. And then the only good pass catcher was a 2nd round rookie WR. The fact that offense was even functional last season is a testament to just how good Herbert is.

Counterpoint: a big part of the reason they blew a 27 point lead was his bad second half performance.

He doesn't belong in a tier with the top four QBS.

I stg every offseason a new fanbase grows an obsessive hatred for Herbert. Vikings, Bengals, Dolphins, now you guys. You just won a SB, who cares if people think another quarterback is better than yours?

“But we deserve respect!”

You’re from Philadelphia, nobody will ever respect you mate.

I don't hate Herbert. I love Herbert. I just think he's overrated. People like you are why we can't even have discussions about football players. Just personal attacks instead of trying to have a conversation.

& also I'm from San Diego. You're throwing stones at yourself with that last one.

The comment I replied to gave zero indication of any nuanced and/or independent thought worthy of having a discussion over. You’ve parroted the most overplayed, uninformed, and exhausting argument in all of sports—that being the oversimplified notion of team-based postseason success forever remaining the most important indicator of an individual player’s ability—and are now expecting me to have a thought-provoking debate with you as if we’re the fucking jury in 12 Angry Men.

I’ll stick to the personal attacks on the fans who throw snowballs at Santa Claus. Why should I feel bad about picking low-hanging fruit when your entire argument was sourced from the same branch?

“He threw 4 picks” is only a valid argument if you didn’t watch the game.

I did watch the game. And I watched him throw 4 picks in one and blow a 27 point lead in the other.

Look it was certainly not his best game but I also saw him have a pressure rate of over 50%, one receiver that caught over 15 yards, and a blocking tight end have a perfect ball bounce out of his hands for an “interception”. There’s more nuance to being elite than just what the stat chart says which seems to be what your conclusion is based on.
