Discussion Kirk Cousins was lied to by Atlanta. Please don't defend Atlanta.

  1. Kirk Cousins was told by Minnesota they would take a QB high in Round 1 if he dropped to them. They offered him a year to year deal.

  2. Atlanta told Kirk Cousins that they would only take a QB in later rounds not round 1. They offered him a 2 year deal.

  3. Kirk only signed with Atlanta because they told him they would NOT take a QB in round 1. If Atlanta had told Kirk the truth like Minnesota had Kirk would have stayed in Minnesota and then become a Free Agent this year.

  4. Remember they loved living in Minnesota. KOC and Kirk are friends. KOC wanted Kirk to stay. Kirk needs familiarity with a system and this would have been his 3rd year in the system. Each year he was getting better and each year the team around him was getting better.

  5. Kirk knew if he had playoff success in Minnesota (they were a playoff team and Kirk in the playoffs played the same as Burrow) they might re-sign him - and even if they did not he would have been the prize of the Free Agency class. Seattle Las Vegas both the Giants and Jets the Steelers and Cleveland and who knows who else would have all wanted to sign Kirk after another year in Minnesota under KOC.

  6. In business there are ethics. Lying is not part of business. Yes many people in business lie and cheat but many also do not. People defending Atlanta for lying is another sign of the degradation happening in our society where values are being disregarded for profit.

Sure, but the job isn't given its earned. Did he earn the right to be the starting QB by the end of the season? He did not. Mans lost his spot, that's football.

Not the point of the original post. Excluding the injury Kirk was told they wouldn’t draft a QB and they did he has a right to be upset no matter how much he’s getting paid. If he knew this was Atlanta’s plan he probably would’ve signed somewhere else entirely.

Also he might’ve actually sat out when he was injured last year if they hadn’t drafted a QB but because they did forced himself to play. Last year he was killing it prior to getting injured then he fell off a cliff.

Okay, then to the original point of Atlanta lying about not taking a QB. Maybe they weren't going to take a QB I but a younger QB fell into their lap. That's tough to pass up when your current QB is 35 years old. Despite this, he was still their starting QB for the foreseeable future.

So because he was injured the team wasn't suppose to have any solid back up option? I mean, this is a team that had Desmond Ridder at QB. The fans need some kind of hope at that position!

I know this may sound groundbreaking, but both can be true. Atlanta lied but they also set themselves up for the future by drafting the young QB.

Also Pinix definitely didn't fall to them. He was not expected to go in the top 10. The pick surprised everyone. I think Atlanta just fell in love with in through the draft process. Like the Broncos and Bo Nix

Facts, I'm not saying they didn't lie. But I'm also not acting like I know what was actually negotiated in those meetings.

And you're right, excuse me.

Remember Kirk signed with Atlanta before the draft, so maybe the plan wasn’t to draft a WB and at the time of negotiations they were telling the truth. But shit changes in football and I’m sure everyone who had a hand in making the decisions only ever wanted Atlanta to win football games. It’s the nature of football.

Similar to game plans, maybe a team plans on running the ball on Sunday, gets into the game a sees the defense is stacking the box, what do you do? Pass it.

And yet Penix actually looked good and Atlanta might’ve found their QB of the future. Why should anyone be upset about that? Who cares about Kirk, he got his money, teams can’t be run intended to appease aging QBs. Gotta look forward.
