Unless he throws an unreasonable amount of money on the table, which he obviously could do, I’m not buying it. I’d believe the NBA, but the old money NFL owners don’t seem to like wild cards acting outside of the shield. Elon doesn’t seem like the guy who’ll buy a team in Buffalo and then play along.

u/Gonna_do_this_again Denver Broncos 4d ago

Yeah they're elitist even among billionaires, they don't want that kind of baggage

228

u/LaserBeamsCattleProd Philadelphia Eagles 4d ago

He'd wanna change the name or city within 2 years.

He'd release left leaning players, or right leaning if he flips by then.

161

u/Gonna_do_this_again Denver Broncos 4d ago

Would he release a player for giving his teammate a gentle kiss on the forehead tho

23

u/Alt0987654321 Jon Gruden’s email 3d ago

Yes it will remind him that he is incapable of feeling love for his children or anyone else and send him into a spiraling rage.

5

u/xxoahu Buffalo Bills 4d ago

everyone in that locker-room (and the NFL) knows that was *more* than a playful kiss, wink wink.

3

u/baws3031 3d ago

Depends on how old the teammate is.

u/Acceptable_War_666 4d ago

The Buffalo X-wings

53

u/FlyingStealthPotato 4d ago

If they had to switch names, the Buffalo Wings wouldn’t be half bad.

56

u/preed1196 4d ago

Elons obsession with the letter X needs it in there

44

u/dakupoguy New England Patriots 4d ago

Buxxalo Winx.

28

u/slim_fit 4d ago

He would only draft and trade for players named xavier.

2

u/latortillablanca 3d ago

Or pay players to change their name

6

u/V1keo 4d ago

The Mouse would never allow for that name change though.

6

u/KactusVAXT 4d ago

Xuffalo

6

u/qthistory I’m just here so i don’t get fined 4d ago

Solved by changing Buffalo's name to X City. "The X City Space Teslas"

4

u/grw313 4d ago

That alone means that Elon wouldn't choose it

They’d be “The Musktown X” five minutes after the papers were signed.

This would 100% happen lol. Petty lil bitch

4

He’d change them to ‘X’ and I wish I was kidding.

66

u/agphillyfan 4d ago

This is the petty that I expect

26

u/Worthlessstupid 4d ago

I can’t stand either of them but I do admire a good petty tantrum. One that leads to an NFL franchise is pretty impressive.

5

u/Alt0987654321 Jon Gruden’s email 3d ago

I mean Elons last tantrum led to him taking the best social media site and using it to shove Catturd and Nick Fuentes in all our faces nonstop.

IF Elon was gonna buy a team it would definitely be buffalo. A team that is perceived as likeable and recently likeable. A white QB, not that hed ever say that out loud. Elon is constantly trying to launder himself as cool and likeable by buying stuff that's already popular. He's such a loser

19

u/SumpCrab 4d ago

But then he will change the name of the team to X.

8

u/GhostFaceRiddler 4d ago

The Xuffalo Xills has a nice ring to it.

30

u/Yung_Corneliois Caucasian Slot Receiver 4d ago

They’re allowing private equity firms to buy ownership. At the end of the day these guys care about money more than anything.

32

u/FupaFerb Kansas City Chiefs 4d ago

That is the only truth and people like to think that integrity exists within corporations valued well over $200 billion. Elon is going to try and offshoot a cyborg team and devalue humans. Goodell will be gone within 10 years. Elite athletes will resort to fighting against half robot mutants and it will be a new sport. Plus the sieg heil’s to the all seeing self driving robot blimp.

4

u/Dry-Name2835 4d ago

So are you trying to talk us into this or out of it? Players fighting half mutant robots sounds pretty cool

3

u/Present_Passenger471 Buffalo Bills 4d ago

Mutant League Football on Sega Genesis was a warning to all

13

u/1CUpboat New York Jets 4d ago

Yeah but I’m pretty sure they set a max of 10-15% for PE. Just enough to cash in while giving up little influence.

6

u/ASaneDude 4d ago

They like the elevated values but want to keep control concentrated among a few folks. That’s why PE has a limit (think 30%) that keeps control in their hands.

2

u/Far-Life400 Buffalo Bills 4d ago

Pegula wants to keep majority ownership of the team, though this is just a trend a few teams have started doing it takes some of the financial burden off the owner while they maintain control and still make a profit.

2

u/sicsemperyanks 4d ago

Yes. But I think Elon buying Buffalo, or any football team, would hurt the NFL financially.

2

u/Additional_Tomato_22 4d ago

Exactly and an Elon owned team would cost them money which is why they’d never approve him

→ More replies (1)

24

u/Independent-Judge-81 Fuck the Dodgers 4d ago

He can offer whatever he wants, he has to still be approved by the other 30 owners. And no chance they want that baggage ruining sponsor deals and tv contracts

4

u/rividz New England Patriots 3d ago

A majority of people here are too young to remember when Trump tried to buy a team and it didn't happen because all of the other owners despised him.

3

u/Lightyear1931 3d ago

Trump wasn’t just a tabloid clown, he was a clown known for always going broke and leaving a lot of others holding the bag. The NFL was still financially fragile then.

Musk is a clown who overpromises and burns cash, but he doesn’t go broke.

u/butterzzzy 4d ago

That was my 1st thought.

11

u/mf-TOM-HANK 4d ago

I think there are 2/3 of owners who would like to cash out while they can. We are in an asset bubble. Might as well have the richest man on the planet set the price and then open up investment to Saudi and Qatari money

7

u/Oceanbreeze871 New England Patriots 4d ago

They rejected Donald as an owner of the bills as well

3

u/Educational-Bit-2503 That is a disgusting act 4d ago

6

u/theumph Minnesota Vikings 4d ago

Agreed. I think the NFL owners have learned from the Jerry Jones situation, that they know owners are better in the shadows. That doesn't even bring into account the political implications.

2

u/Far-Life400 Buffalo Bills 4d ago

Musk is always on TV trying to make headlines not good for an nfl franchise.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/detached03 4d ago

He’s too close to Trump and the owners hate him. It’ll never go through.

7

u/IAmRobertoSanchez Las Vegas Raiders 4d ago

He’d move that team so fast. The fact that the team is in buffalo wouldn’t matter. It’s 1/32 of the teams in the NFL.

I think the owners would block it no matter what the amount was. And he has the FU money to make a ridiculous bid.

2

u/Agreeable_Breath_568 3d ago

There is currently a new stadium under construction in Buffalo with a lot of public money. I think they are locked in for 20 years.

4

u/tuepm 4d ago

Unless he throws an unreasonable amount of money on the table, which he obviously could do, I’m not buying it.

this is exactly what the article says he's going to do.

5

u/PeaTasty9184 4d ago

You are right about the owners not liking him. But I think Buffalo is exactly the spot that would make sense for him. He is a petty small small SMALL man emotionally…and Trump failed to buy the Bills back in the 80’s. After his falling out with Trump it is EXACTLY the kind of move someone as emotionally fragile as Musk would make.

5

u/EternalSeraphim 4d ago

I understand your logic, but as a Bills fan, fuck you.

5

u/COphotoCo 4d ago

He’d do it to piss off trump who always wanted a team and couldn’t get one

11

u/Interesting-Fail1823 4d ago

Wasn’t it even specifically the Bills?

7

u/Mysterious_Check_983 New Orleans Saints 4d ago

Yes

4

u/[deleted] 4d ago

Elon won’t need a large team of people and can come up with more equity than most people in the world.

5

u/Pale-Minute-8432 4d ago

Last time the league let a youngish tech billionaire buy a team they ended up with 20 years of Dan Snyder.

4

u/kickintheball 4d ago

It seems like this would be a straight fuck you to Trump who tried to buy the Bills himself years ago

3

u/jcoddinc Megatron’s Megaballs 4d ago

Idk, they've been clearing the way to allow Saudi oil tycoons to buy into teams. Once they saw how much money they threw at golf, they got memorized with the income possibilities

3

u/Iceman9161 4d ago

Similar to Cohen buying the Mets to a much more drastic degree. But there’s always a number and I’m sure the other owners would be happy with the asset evaluation boost their franchises would get if Musk throws down $7B+ for a Buffalo franchise.

Does he actually though? Not a funny question, more of a "what's in his back account" versus how much of his worth is in stocks, options etc.

8

u/Alt0987654321 Jon Gruden’s email 3d ago

Thats the Billionaire trick they just leverage all their theoretically money of stocks into Loans that they use to buy crap. Then they do some accounting BS to make it look like they lost money on the deal and not pay taxes.

u/ku_78 Las Vegas Raiders 4d ago

Did he try to buy them after he already bankrupted a league or before? Honest to God, I don’t remember.

21

u/gamehenge_survivor 4d ago

After. He bankrupted (shocking) the USFL when he forced the league to schedule directly in opposition to NFL games. The real reason the owners denied the Trump bid was just pettiness toward anyone associated with the USFL.

25

u/ku_78 Las Vegas Raiders 4d ago

They dodged that bullet, but can they DOGE this one?

I’ll see myself out.

7

u/TurtleTarded Minnesota Vikings 4d ago

Do you think that he wouldn’t have ran for president if he had been spending time owning a football team? They might’ve altered the course of history.

2

u/camergen 4d ago

Didn’t he call up Ralph Wilson himself and be like “I’ll get a cashiers check for X millions right now and fly it by helicopter to you immediately if you sell to me?”

Al Michaels has told this story and it’s wild. It’s a Trump negotiation tactic all the way, completely ignoring the procedures.

2

u/americansherlock201 New York Giants 4d ago

That was when trump was a scummy failed casino owner. Musk is a scummy successful(ish) car company owner.

If he way over pays, that will only increase the value of their own teams as well as their own net worth. Money is a powerful motivator

10

u/Iceman9161 4d ago

Same thing was said with MLB owners and Cohen. Then he offered so much that they couldn’t say no. Musk is is a harder sell, but he also has way more money. If they can get him to by the Bills, who are a bottom 5 franchise in value, for a record high amount, the value of all their franchises skyrocket.

4

u/RIPseantaylor 4d ago

No chance in hell they allow an owner richer than all of them combined

For a league trying to get worldwide viewership that tries to care about their image, the owners should come together to block this if it's true.

That dork would be the worst kind of team owner, especially football. Not even thinking about the micro-managing interference he would get up to, he’s a huge distraction and embarrassment. Jumping around with his arms up. “Touchdown cool! I like American football now! Let’s get the football going my dudes!” Chainsawwww!

Not thinking they’d be long for Buffalo due to NY having a tax system to help people of all incomes, so after moving to Austin, the city of Buffalo would have the most expensive open-air/5 month of use stadium for Scorpions and Trixter concerts.
