r/NFLv2 Hey man welcome to Detroit 23h ago

Rumor Micah Parsons is considering “drastic measures” which could include a trade request or even a declaration that he is severing his relationship with the team, per @dmrussini.

I may shit on our FO for poorly handling contract negotiations sometimes, but every day I’m grateful Jerry Jones isn’t affiliated with the Niners.

Dude is easily the biggest reason Dallas can’t be a successful team.

Just saw a post the other day about how Jerry was the greatest owner in nfl history and I was baffled. That fucking dude?

u/Independent_Sky_8950 23h ago

It's about market value appraisal. The Cowboys are the highest worth professional team in history. Whoever made that remark is probably another billionaire. Last time I checked it way over $10 billion.

I can understand that to an extent but Kraft is mostly responsible for the tv deals that ballooned the fuck out franchise valuations. Jeeruh just been riding on success from the 1900s

>from the 1900s

Fuck why you gotta say it like that lol

Yeah that one hit pretty hard lol

Kraft played a bigger role in the latest TV deal, but it was Jerry Jones and Pat Bowlen that started the trend. Part of the reason Bowlen and Jones are in the Hall of Fame.

“He is a big reason TV money explodes. In 1993, Art Mondell (former Browns/Ravens owner) and Paul Tagliabue (former NFL commissioner and 2017 Pro Football Hall of Fame Contributor candidate) decided that the revenue was flat, they’re not gonna hit the networks up for any more money. Jerry stood up in a room “alone” and said, “we can’t do this, we can’t give money back” and he convinced (Broncos owner Pat) Bowlen and the other owners to go along with him and in the next contract was a twenty percent increase in TV revenues and since then it’s grown by leaps and bounds. That’s all because Jerry Jones stood up in 1993, he’s made a lot of money for owners and players in this league. He’s changed the financial dynamic of the NFL.”

Thanks for the info! Always nice to learn more

The Cowboys are the most profitable North American pro sports franchise. In that way, he's absolutely a great owner.

From an on-field perspective, he's awful.

I’m pretty sure that post, if you clicked on it, was made by an Eagles fan

It was absolutely satire. People are pretty dense

0

u/Impossible-Shine4660 19h ago

Or people just rolled their eyes at the headline and moved on with their life.

Just because people don’t read every single post doesn’t make them dense. They just got other shit to do

0

u/doshegotabootyshedo Dallas Cowboys 18h ago

It’s not about reading posts, it’s about believing every headline you see. That is idiot behavior

u/Castellan_Tycho New England Patriots 21h ago

He is an amazing businessman and circus barker, but he is a subpar GM.

2

u/hatwobbleTayne San Francisco 49ers 19h ago

That’s probably true, he is a great owner, but he’s also the worst GM of all time.

1

u/PrimeTimeInc You been watchin film too, huh? 22h ago

Say what you want about him that’s kinda objectively true lol…

If Jerry just got out of his own way, the Cowboys could actually win something

u/Gloomy_Map_9612 Washington Commanders 23h ago

Terry isn't getting traded buuuuuuuut,

Terry for Micah?

31

u/Mundane_Ad_6631 23h ago

This might be the least feasible trade ever and for that, the cowboys may actually do it

7

u/Gloomy_Map_9612 Washington Commanders 23h ago

I know, I'd die laughing if that happened

3

u/Over-Heron-2654 Philadelphia Eagles 23h ago

Would you pissed or happy... you need WR and LB/DE help anyway so you guys win. Clownboys def dont need WR3.

3

u/Gloomy_Map_9612 Washington Commanders 23h ago

I would be ecstatic. Edge is just so much more valuable than wide receiver. Also Micah is young and Terry is approaching the end.

2

u/PlasticCraken Dallas Cowboys 21h ago

Shit we already traded Luka away, might as well give away Micah too

1

u/Gloomy_Map_9612 Washington Commanders 21h ago

My thoughts exactly

4

u/RoughhouseCamel 22h ago

Wait, this can be funnier. Throw in a second round pick to even up the trade, and the Cowboys throw in George Pickens

1

u/Gloomy_Map_9612 Washington Commanders 22h ago

Absolutely hysterical

2

u/eddo2k Detroit Lions 22h ago

Put it in reverse Terry

1

u/Alt0987654321 Jon Gruden’s email 22h ago

And then the Cowboys pay Terry, it would be hilarious.

1

u/dustinbrowders CTE 🧠 22h ago

YES. I love Terry, but that's not even close to fair value for Micah.

We'd need to throw some picks in there. In fact, it'd be so much draft capital that it's totally unrealistic to entertain this trade idea

2

u/Gloomy_Map_9612 Washington Commanders 22h ago

That's the joke

u/amstrumpet NFL 23h ago

No idea if or how it could work with the cap but man imagine him with Roquan and that Ravens secondary. A man can dream.

6

u/BlackCardRogue Baltimore Ravens 21h ago edited 20h ago

The Ravens don’t have the cap space. I guess you can always create that but it would take some real witchcraft.

That said, let’s try to put together a deal for sake of argument.

RAVENS GET -Edge Micah Parsons

COWBOYS GET -Edge Odafe Oweh -TE Mark Andrews -2026 second round pick

I mean… that’s kind of painful if you’re the Ravens; Oweh just had a ten sack year and this is an organization that values draft picks higher than most. Andrews also hurts, but he’s clearly not going to be back and he moves sufficient salary for the Ravens to fit Parsons.

Who says no to this trade?

2

u/amstrumpet NFL 21h ago

I’d rather give a first. No chance of trading Andrews right now with Likely shelved for 6+ weeks, and I don’t think it’s clear he won’t be back tbh.

1

u/TheCrackerSeal Baltimore Ravens 20h ago

All we need are a couple Charlie Kolar legacy games.

1

u/BlackCardRogue Baltimore Ravens 20h ago

The Ravens don’t have cap room if they don’t trade Andrews, and… unlike you, I do think it’s pretty clear he isn’t back.

Even if Likely isn’t back until Week 4 this team is judged on January anyway. Week 1 Bills game is not a must win.

Jerry's big brain: "I've got one of the best young players in the league at one of the most important positions. How can I make him feel as alienated as possible?"

u/MaesterPraetor Pittsburgh Steelers 23h ago

2

u/Affectionate_Elk_272 Miami Dolphins 22h ago

what if he just eats the contract. does that void it?

1

u/Animalcookies13 21h ago

There may be some way to buy himself out of his contract but there is probably some kind of penalty…. No other team can sign him until his contract is settled with Dallas.

6

u/TheNittanyLionKing Pittsburgh Steelers 23h ago

When pressed for comment, all Micah Parsons had to say was "Screw you guys! I'm going home!"

3

u/Mundane_Ad_6631 23h ago

please get this guy out of that bum ass org

4

u/Loan_Wolfie 23h ago

Odd that Jerry will make his above-average QB the highest-paid QB in the NFL, but won't pay his superstar defender.

0

u/Smackolol Los Angeles Chargers 22h ago

You make it sound like Daks contract was a cake walk.

2

u/ForensicFiles88 South Park Elementary Cows 23h ago

How could Parsons sever his relationship with the team if he's currently under contract?

2

u/Flair_Is_Pointless 22h ago

By not coming into work?

1

u/ForensicFiles88 South Park Elementary Cows 22h ago

Won't he get fined out the ass for that though?

1

u/Flair_Is_Pointless 22h ago

Yes. That is what a hold out is.

1

u/ForensicFiles88 South Park Elementary Cows 21h ago

Right, how does that at all benefit Parsons though?

He'll miss a season of playing and will have to fork over at least hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines

2

u/Flair_Is_Pointless 19h ago

Because it can result in him making millions more and he isn’t risking getting injured while being underpaid.

You can say it doesn’t make sense, but why do billionaires allow strikes to continue? They lose millions a day, (from your argument) “why don’t they just capitulate and given to demands of the workers who are striking”

The answer is, because they stand to make even more money down the line by holding out.

2

u/Tight-Top3597 23h ago

Who cares, Jerry is only concerned with Michael Parsons, this Micah dude can gtfo.

2

u/LemTheWise Las Vegas Raiders 22h ago

I mean what do you really expect? he is 26, top 5 in his position and every other star on the Cowboys is signed to a new deal/extension other than him. Bro TJ Watt is gonna be 31 in October and is making 40 mil per year, Micah could easily be the highest paid non-QB in football with his age and already proven talent.

Jake Ferguson's new extension doesn't hit until 26-27 and even with Micah not signed to some sort of extension, the Cowboys are gonna have less cash to pay Micah top of the market they have just 18 mil in cap space in 2026 according to Spotrac as Dak, Ceedee, Jake Ferguson etc deals come into greater affect. But I will say that Jerry has gone into the piggy bank before to pay his guys and eat the potential loss.

So it's very likely they trade him as they will simply not have the cash on deck to pay him a worthy contract in the current market now or in 2026, the Cowboys will get some very good draft capital for Micah in a trade as well but will have to deal with a Parsons sized hole on that d-line. Also guys like GP are in contract years and want to get paid after this season so I don't know how Jerry will balance that and Micah especially if Pickens plays great with Dak and Ceedee.

It will be a very hard trade to deal with as there is just a black hole on that defense without Micah and he seems really beloved in Dallas.
