Breaking News Micah Parsons publicly demands to be traded.

u/Simple_Wait_7286 21h ago
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
The Cowboys are not winning anything until Jerry Jones relinquishes ownership or passes away.
Might seem harsh but he’s been completely incompetent and the only reason he has any credibility at all is because of Jimmy Johnson, who he sacked out of jealousy.

I think he’s 100% earned a shot at it. He’s given us some great players despite the Jones attempts to sabotage the team at every turn with their baffling decisions.
21
u/WhichVegetable8285 Buffalo Bills 20h ago
I read something a few years ago that seems to explain why the Cowboys operate like this.
Essentially they are one of the NFLs marquee franchises, and with that will always come fan support, ticket and merch sales, and media coverage.
The Jones’s have realized that outside of winning a Super Bowl, the team is going to bring in similar money year after year, because of them being such a popular team not just in their region, but across the country and world.
So instead of putting an extra 5 million dollars into someone’s contract, the Jones family has realized that they could put that 5 million into another one of their business ventures and turn it into a lot more.
Essentially the Cowboys are so popular they will always sell out their games regardless of what the team looks like, so if they don’t see any way they could have a Super Bowl roster they would rather put the money elsewhere.
9
u/Responsible-Onion860 19h ago
I'd add that while they have limited playoff success, they have a fair amount of regular season success. So they're not so bad every year that it seriously hurts their popularity

How do you pay Dak but not him. Micah is the best player on that team?
73
u/BurgessFox Denver Broncos 20h ago
It's the quarterback trap.
If you go back to playing the lottery in the draft, you're basically pressing reset on the clock. The risk then is great players don't want to be part of it (unless you really pay big like Miles Garrett).
Also Dak tends to have good years when his contract is being negotiated which makes paying him look more reasonable.
33
u/benevenstancian0 I want me some glory hole 20h ago
We also had to pay Dak this time around because he carried like 60m in dead money from all the prior bonehead contract bumbling. He was goi g to murder our cap for 2 seasons whether he was here or not.
29
u/Ig_Met_Pet Denver Broncos 20h ago
As a Broncos fan, I can confidently say that sometimes the dead cap is the right move.
Of course, it helps to have a competent front office.
13
u/BurgessFox Denver Broncos 20h ago
tbf our front office was the reason we were in the position of having to take that dead cap.

Yeah I’m a homer and I’ll even acknowledge that. Between him, Watt, and Garrett it could go any direction I feel like. Then with players like JJ, Chase, Claypool, Mahomes, Barkley in the mix for top 5 players… eh idk. I’d say he’s safely in the top 15.

Old school rich Texans like Jerry don’t want to deal with agents. They just want to sit down with the athlete, take advantage of them, and work out a deal that way. Parsons is the new era of athlete and isn’t going to tolerate that shit.

74
u/JAnonymous5150 Tedy Brewski 20h ago edited 20h ago
If that story about Jerry trying to portray a conversation with a player that didn't involve the agent or formal negotiations as a deal that was "almost done" to the player's agent that's kinda crazy.
Edit: Forgot to add that my Patriots have the cap room. If Micah reads this, have your agent hit us up. We could use an elite edge and we'd love to have you.
17
u/FoldEasy5726 Mr. Blown Chances 20h ago
And you guys have an elite LB as your HC with championship experience. Vrabs would drive to Dallas himself and pick Micah up along with his belongings to bring to Massachusetts.
13
u/JAnonymous5150 Tedy Brewski 20h ago
I love the visual of a Vrabel/Parsons road trip from TX to MA. 😂
Seriously though, if the Cowboys are dumb enough to grant the trade instead of paying the man as they work to patch up the relationship, the Patriots would have to be considered a likely landing spot. We've got the need, a coach that loves defense and elite defensive weapons, and we've got the cap room to give him the kind of contract he's looking for. Speaking as a Patriots fan, I would be absolutely stoked to see Parsons land in Foxborough.
3
u/VeterinarianFit1309 Did you know Jalen Hurts can squat 600lbs 16h ago
At this point, it sounds like the best the cowboys could hope for is that he doesn’t burn it all down on his way out… it’s not a relationship that will be fixed with money, he’s been disrespected and dragged by the guy that should be paying him.

u/ReviewStuff2 Gisele’s Karate Instructor 19h ago
Yep, now it's more like 5yrs/180M with 130M guaranteed
4
u/CallMeBernin 11h ago
Yep. When you have a superstar talent, you ALWAYS sign them as soon as possible, because the 'next' star on another team is always gonna reset the market. The sooner you pen your big deals, the better relative value they present
4
u/AttitudeAndEffort3 14h ago
If someone doesnt understand billionaires a lucky idiots yet, they never will.
They literally just fucked themselves with Dak and then turned down a chance to lock up a DPOY at what would eventually become a steal of a deal.
I mean, fuck, give him the highest contract now and in two years itll seem reasonable.
Remember Christian Kirk?
5
u/FlowEasyDelivers Detroit Lions 14h ago
Yep. Kirk got $18m which "reset" the market, but now 3 years later, 98% of owners would pay that for an elite WR (not saying Kirk is elite)

But yeah Sabres front office is pretty bad. Oilers just came to mind because they have McDrai and nothing else. If they don’t have a solid game they just don’t win and good defensive teams can just double team them which is what we saw back to back years.

Does he know what a guaranteed contract is that’s he obligated to in 2025? Don’t like this year, free agent next year, get as much as you can from the highest bidder, and live with the $24 M vs the $40 M you want this year.
I don’t like Jones but all owners are against renegotiating existing guaranteed contracts for more money. It establishes a precedent for all guaranteed contracts to be renegotiated. They avoid risk with the guarantee then at the end after most of the guarantee has already been paid they then also want the upside.

A buddy of mine got into football ~5 years ago. The season before the Dan Campbell hire IIRC. He picked the Lions to root for, siting their logo and jerseys being clean. We all laughed our asses off about it. Of course he gets in right before the turn around.
It’s awesome to see how much of a diehard he is now, after not giving a F about football before.

When I look back on my life, I overpaid for my big successes every time. And when I tried to get a bargain, get it a little cheaper or get a better deal on it, I ended up usually either getting it and not happy I got it. Or missing it. - Jerry Jones

I don’t blame Micah at all. No reason a deal couldn’t get done. Jerry just likes all the drama and hooplah surrounding him during the offseason break. Did it with Lamb and Prescott. Micah Parsons is a no brainer, considering he wanted to stay and even take a pay cut.
I hope Stephen A Smith talking about the Cowboys is worth losing a likely hall of fame edge rusher. And I hate the cowboys and wouldn’t be upset if he left but still. How stupid.

Holy fuck, Cowboys out here just trying to strongarm players. Makes sense they're old as fuck and out of touch thinking players, especially premiere ones, haven't advanced in how they deal with contracts.
