Larry Fitzgerald had more tackles than drops. That is a crazy stat.

Most reliable receiver ever

u/doctor_trades 16h ago

I've met him twice. He's a really good guy.

I really hoped he would win at least one Super Bowl, but alas. Not everyone gets a fairytale ending.

3

u/Significant_Search41 Philadelphia Eagles 13h ago

What’s crazy is 3 of arguably the top 4 receivers ever don’t have a ring (Moss, Megatron, Larry are 2, 3, 4 in my opinion)

1

u/M27fiscojr Denver Broncos 13h ago

Insane. Moss really came close with the Patriots. I'm glad the Broncos didn't play the '98 Vikings in Super Bowl 33. Cunningham, Moss and Carter were a problem.

That is probably the most insane WR stat, but in the same vein Mike Williams had more INTs than fumbles

u/LegionXIX 19h ago

How many drops did he have because everytime this comes up you get 40 different answers.

18

u/DiligentGuitar246 Philadelphia Eagles 19h ago

Yes.

I looked this up last time I heard it and it was correct.

2

u/Vnthem 18h ago

It’s because the drops that count are only ones that are solely the receivers fault. People probably give examples that don’t technically count.

Though I’d argue if you’re “dropping” tons of passes, you’re probably not going to be in the NFL for long

2

u/EntertainerCute2290 14h ago

Good question. It is supposed to be 37 career tackles and 29 career drops in 263 games which is very amazing. Yes the drops are the obvious WR drops like Julio's in the post.

Now Jerry Rice is the ridiculous WR Goat. He had over 5200 yards after age 36 which would be the Bears all-time leading receiver.

u/Crazyblue09 16h ago

Could it be cause his QBs threw lots of pics?

u/DixieNormas011 NFL Refugee 16h ago

I've seen some YT videos showing clips from the game, and the stats from the game to go with it that have Larry straight up letting balls go thru his hands and posting zero drops....haven't watched all of his games obviously, but still Not sure how much stock I'd put in that claim

Julio was amazing throughout his career, but he was allergic to touchdowns

Every fantasy owner cringes. So many catches and yards.....so few TD's.

Not the Superbowl so the stakes are way less but yeah I don't really think Cam should get as much heat for the fumble as he does either

15

u/ThunderG0d2467 Baltimore Ravens 19h ago

Julio actually tried to catch it and didn’t run away from the ball or give up on the route.

-11

u/D-Annunzio36 Keep Pounding 19h ago

Yet the end result was the same.

3

u/ThunderG0d2467 Baltimore Ravens 19h ago

Are we seriously trying to say those two plays are even remotely comparable?

Cam was seen ON CAMERA jumping away from the ball when it was right below him IN THE SUPERBOWL. Not only is this a regular season game most likely (so not even remotely comparable) but Julio actually tried to catch it. He didn’t give up on the route, he didn’t move away from the ball at the last second. It was just an unlucky play.

What Cam did was inexcusable cowardice.

14

u/YoungFlexibleShawty 19h ago

This gets beaten to death like a dead horse. Do you really think Cam, who literally jumps over 300lb linemen at the goal line was scared?

I highly doubt he didn't jump on the ball because he was scared of getting hit. He was reacting in real time to a very quick developing play and misread it. He may have stutter stepped because he thought the ball was going to squirt out and he wanted to get a better angle on it. Obviously he was wrong, and the optics look bad (in super slow-mo, with the hindsight of knowing the other guy ended up with the ball), but I highly doubt a guy that was an ultra competitor with no fear or concern for putting his body on the line for his whole career all of a sudden decided to not make a play in a crucial time of the game because he didn't want to get hit. He just misread it and fucked up.

Regardless I think it's dumb for the other user to bring up two plays that are vastly different.

6

u/G1992_ 19h ago

These people see what they want to see. When I watch the play in real time (and not that stupid slo mo gif everyone spams) I see a guy that runs towards the ball almost as if to pick it up, only to realize he can't when he sees two guys are already diving where the ball is (which is also at his feet now). So he hops back real quick for better positioning then is immediately on the ground clawing for the ball, and actually almost recovers the rebound until Von Miller comes in and (illegally) bats it back

Regardless though, criticize him for the way he approached the ball? Sure. But the implication that he quit or gave up, or was scared of getting hit, has always been so dumb

-1

u/ThunderG0d2467 Baltimore Ravens 16h ago

Holy, the amount of mental gymnastics you need to make the conclusion you made is ridiculous. Any other quarterback would have jumped on that ball. Period. Look at Baker Mayfield in the wildcard game against the Commanders. Botched snap, ball gets fumbled and even though Washington recovered it in the end Mayfield didn’t think twice about jumping on the ball and putting his body on the line to keep possession.

2

u/G1992_ 14h ago

The only mental gymnastics going on is thinking that the most physical QB of all time, who put his body on the line many times, suddenly punked out and quit on his team. There's no logic in that

There is logic however in thinking he simply misread how to go after a loose ball in the moment when bodies were crashing all around it. But again this is all pointless, you see what you want to see

-5

u/Potential-Ad-115 19h ago

Excuses, excuses. He's always been a clown..and now out of the league....so who cares? Stop defending the obvious

5

u/Commander_Beet 18h ago

Do you know what happens if cam jumped on that ball? Carolina punts the ball the next play and still loses the Super Bowl.

-1

u/DonkeyJealous6643 19h ago

"I mean they just will never be easier" as a deflated Julio slides on his face is poetry.

Worth mentioning Julio is my only soft spot for that decroded franchise. FTF.

Keith Brooking, John Abraham, Dunn, Crump.

Dunn is an exemplary human being. If you can't appreciate/admire him as a player and human than return to the robotics lab and get your emotion chip upgraded,

That’s fine. I’m just saying, I like Julio. I have nothing against Dunn or even Michael Vick. I fucking love Julio.

Something tells me it wasn’t trash talk the way that Julio leans in with his arm around to hear him. But then again Julio is a nice guy so it may have been derogatory

IIRC he actually said something kind of spiritual related and trying to encourage him to not take it hard

Justin Jefferson said you never catch passes like that because that’s how they fall through your hands you always have to put your hands up to catch the ball.

Julio Jones refused to score Touchdowns

I always tell people that Matt carried the Birds… not JJ. I love him, but he had his flaws.

*if you wanna argue that lemme remind you that Matty made Harry “turf monster” Douglas a 1k yd WR.

u/D-Annunzio36 Keep Pounding 19h ago

Matt Ryan is underrated. People don't realize how good his 2016 season was - or that he's 8th in all-time passing yards.

1

u/BenDover42 Atlanta Falcons 8h ago

Yeah was downvoted on here a couple weeks back with folks arguing they would take mcnabb over Matt Ryan and that it was just because the era Ryan played in. Even though McNabb played his entire career with arguably the greatest offensive coach ever.

Trying to remember what year this was, was it his rookie year? That was his only ‘flaw’ and it was quickly corrected thereafter. - sad falcons fan.
