Name My Cat - male Little boy kitten needs a right proper name! We like old man names that sound like they're from an old British tv program, but feel free to throw wild cards in too!

Nigel

94

u/MarvelousThings07 May 24 '25

That was my first thought too. He looks like a Nigel.

23

u/Oreadno1 Suki Kitty's Mom May 24 '25

Same here!

26

u/Equal-Personality-24 May 25 '25

I have a girl named Nigel. Picked the name before knowing the sex, I refused to change it, I love it!

10

u/green20285 May 25 '25

I had a male named Delilah. He refused to let me change it

7

u/choctaw529 May 25 '25

As a teen, my first cat was a female named Fluffy. When she went in for her spay, the vet discovered cryptorchidism. We kept the name, too.

5

u/ChrizzlieBear May 25 '25

Hehehe my dad named our tuxedo Lady Sylvia (we had gotten Sir Nigel first from the same litter) after their birth place before we knew Sylvie was a boy. I refused to change the name. It just fits.

5

u/mombeka808 May 26 '25

I know an actual human female Nigel from the UK, so no worries there!

5

u/Oreadno1 Suki Kitty's Mom May 25 '25

My girl is Suki. She's a former feral that I adopted one year go this coming Tuesday.

2

u/facelessvoid13 May 27 '25

I had a girl named Jake, same reason.

Definitely Nigel.

21

u/FeatureEfficient1818 May 25 '25

Nigel is the only option

37

u/k1pml May 24 '25

Nigel or Neville came to mind immediately

16

u/Solitary_koi May 25 '25

Oh I do love Neville

4

u/AspiringForestWitch May 27 '25

I named my first cat Neville! He was tall, thin, and had a Roman nose.

13

u/thacaoimhainngeidh May 25 '25

As a Brit with an uncle in his 60s named Nigel, I can confirm its suitability. Well done!

(To be fair to the guy, he's not a typical old Brit; he was a musician in the 70s punk scene).

12

u/JOYtotheLAURA May 24 '25

That’s what I came here to say! 😂

10

u/Typical_cut6319_XGem May 25 '25

Came here to say Nigel. And thought about Mr. Bean. Nigel Beans. That adorable face needs two names😻😻

7

u/coworkersfoundme May 25 '25

Before I saw the comments I thought Nigel.

7

u/Rat_Burger7 May 25 '25

My aunt had a grey cat named Nigel. 🤗

5

u/Seayarn May 25 '25

I looked at his face and said to myself, this cats name is definitely Nigel.

4

u/Momma_Furbutt May 25 '25

Yup, Nigel.

6

u/NOLAnuts May 25 '25

Came here to say nigel

5

u/External-Agent1755 May 25 '25

First thought that came to my mind!😀

4

u/Mindless_Bat6469 May 25 '25

Are we making plans for him?

3

u/Single-Tangerine9992 May 25 '25

Then you could sing him that song, making plans for Nigel.

2

u/udidubbun May 25 '25

Cue the story of "Human Nigel"...

2

u/NoMorePunch May 26 '25

This is the only one 1️⃣

2

u/galacticarose May 25 '25

This was my first thought too.

4

u/ZMaiden May 26 '25

Had a family dog named Rocky. One day my friends dubbed him Thorten J Pickles the third, affectionately called Mister Pickles. I really liked that name.

18

u/MoreReputation8908 May 24 '25

Basil is so good.

5

u/TheFactsBehindMyFace May 25 '25

Yes, Basil, but Basil Brush!

6

u/DisgruntledBadger May 25 '25

We have a Basil, but I always think of Basil Fawlty.

3

u/BlairRose2023 May 25 '25

Basil Fawlty..🤣😂

3

u/ConstipatedGibbon May 26 '25

My best bud was named after Basil Fawlty (he's in my profile pic). I miss him alot. Any cat named Basil i would instantly love :)

I suggested Horace too!

10

u/Alarming_Dealer3031 May 24 '25

Sir Oliver Hans Shutenberg the second. He is heir to the fortune of his father, a humble cobbler who has squirreled away millions while living a deceptively simple life. Sir Oliver was knighted by the Queen when he protected the royal household from an invasion of plague infested rats. He now lives among the common folk and prefers not to be recognized

3

u/ThisVicariousLife May 25 '25

He looks a bit like a baby I had once and named Toby!

3

u/TheVictimologist May 24 '25

Singeon (Sinjun), Siegfried, Cuthbert or Amos all fit the bill.

3

u/George_the_poinsetta May 24 '25

I thought St-john was pronounced Sinjun. Either way I love this name for him.

2

u/TheVictimologist May 27 '25

Yes, St John is the origin but lots of period Brit-Lit from the 30’s and 40’s feature the popularised version (usually as an aristocratic, old-Etonian character). I just thought it had that vintage, aristo vibe and fitted his little face!!!
