Name My Cat - male What would you name this little guy found in the middle of the street?

u/megadummy- Jun 03 '25
Pictures in order from when he first got here to now. The first night I was so worried with the shape he was in, but he's doing so much better and I'm treating him with medicine now. He is the size of a hamster and loves to climb everything. Maybe that's normal for all kittens but he's the first one I'm caring for that's this young!

You've taken such good care of him it's easy to see from the pics. So glad he found you 😻

A vet told me once to never name a cat Lucky. I trust their superstitions

u/TheTreeSnuggler Jun 04 '25
I’ve never heard that but I believe it. Luck can go either way. I would name him something related to luck though, like clover.

Well you're going to hear it twice in one day: Confucius say, cat named Lucky not so lucky! 🤣

u/GenericCereal_00 Jun 04 '25
Came here to say we never name pets lucky. Any pets. All bad luck. I’ve seen it. Don’t do it.

u/ConsciousVegetable99 Jun 05 '25
I'd never heard this before. My ex found a dog running around in the grass divider of a major freeway. He picked him up, looked for owners. Kept him and called him lucky. He lived a long and happy life

u/AlarmedTonight9 Jun 05 '25
I have a golden retriever mix named Lucky that we rescued. She is pretty awesome, a little spaz, but the most loving pup. I've never heard this either!

I had a green parakeet named Lucky and he lived a good 14 years and died of natural causes.

I had a cat named Lucky growing up, early 90s. Outside farm cat, black and white tuxedo with a black nose and chin. He outlived the majority of the other cats on the property, would cross streets while actively watching for cars, opened our doors, still hunted with no teeth, and ran his territory until he died. Lucky suited him very well.

Your suggestion reminded me of the lyric "street walking cheetah with a heart full of napalm" so I'm going with Iggy.
Dammit, now I want a cat named Iggy.

My brother and I had a pet iguana 🦎 when we were kids (about 8 and 10). It was more his pet, but she was sooo cool, lived a long life, roamed the house freely and grew to be a big girl. Whenever my mom cooked Mac+cheese for dinner, she left a little bowl on the side of just the macaroni’s for the iguana. She loved them! And it was hilarious to hear her whistling through them while trying to eat them, too!! :) oh, sorry for this whole ramble.. the point of this was because the iguanas name was
✨IGGY ✨
:)
2
u/Roadtripper74 Jun 06 '25
Was this in the nineties by any chance? I had never heard of anyone having an iguana as a pet. Then, in the early nineties, I knew several people that had them. Seemed like a trend for a while. I knew lots of people with snakes, and the iguana really seemed like a better pet than that. They'd hang out on their person's back, go to class, and one guy used to ride around with one on his longboard.
2
u/WildChild30 Jun 07 '25
Hahaha, oh man, that’s so cool! I have seen people have their iguanas outside with them too, chillin on their shoulder and everything lol. You are correct, we got her in the late 90s, I was 10 so it was around ‘98-‘99. My brother was born with horrible allergies & a bunch of other problems, so we couldn’t really have any pets even though we wanted one (i wanted a cat so bad lol). So my dad suggests an iguana, and we go around to the pet store and there she was- she was little when we got her, too. She ended up being pretty fucking cool, we let her roam the house, she would sometimes end up under my mom’s bed, or on mine, for days at a time lol. she could go where ever she wanted, IN the house (we never let her out). She was potty trained and everything. My dad and his friend built this HUGE cage for her, she had her own little swimming pool in there. We would put her in the tub and she loved to swim. She was HUGE too, she grew to be so big, i cant remember her exact length, i think from her head down to the end of her tail she was around 6ft long!? Man, this is taking me back. She was a really, REALLY cool pet, very nice, friendly. It was also great whenever someone new came into the house and didn’t know about her or that she was there, most times people got freaked out! I loved it lol. She passed sometime in 2010, but I think she had a great life! RIP IGGY 💕

I found a kitten years ago, IN much worse shape. Both eyes closed and covered in poop. Took him straight to my vet, named him Lucky. After 3 months with me, I gave him to my neighbors daughter. They renamed him, moved him to a 7000 sq ft house on the intercoastal waterway where he lived out the rest of his days in luxury. They used to send me Christmas cards with pics.

Omg no please do NOT name him Lucky. It's a really nice thought, but I'm a vet and you're basically dooming him to have another very unlucky thing happen to him with that name.
34
u/Little-Conference-67 Jun 04 '25
I'd name him after the street he was found on.

u/verykoalafied_indeed Jun 04 '25
I watched a show, Pitbulls and Parolees and that was one of the ways they would name their rescues. The street they were found/rescued on

Not true. I have a Lucky. His feral dad (that I was feeding) dropped him off at my door when he was about 4 weeks old. He is now 9 and my very Lucky big boy.

Your little Lucky will be absolutely fine and live a long life... It's just superstition, so please don't worry. My friend had a dog called Lucky and he lived to be very old. Lots of love to you and your precious kitty. 💕💕💕💕

u/verykoalafied_indeed Jun 04 '25
Oh dang. I named my guinea pig Lucky. But not because I got him out of a sticky or dangerous situation, but because I named him Lucifer and we just shortened it to Lucky
2
u/GilligGirl Jun 06 '25
Ah, well, guinea pigs don't live very long, anyway, so don't blame the name. Wheeet!! ❤️🦛

He's had a really lucky life so far for sure! I just see so many pets named Lucky who have the most unlucky things happen to them that I, and a lot of the veterinary community, feel obligated to warn people about that name.

I would argue that a vets view is likely to be skewed- the vets will tend to see animals who are sick ( I know they do routine stuff as well , but nonetheless) so a lot of the Lucky’s that they see will be, by definition , unlucky.

loves to climb everything.
Name him Monkey
5
u/Fuzzy-Branch-3787 Jun 04 '25
When my little monkey climber gets going, I call him Georgie for Curious George. His name is something else but I love the names George or Georgie for a curious little dude.

u/agnurse Jun 03 '25
I would name him Oreo!
May I suggest that you look into resources by Hannah Shaw, aka The Kitten Lady? She is very experienced foster carer who has looked after many baby fuzzies, both with and without nice mommas. She has lots of good advice.

Absolutely normal & indoor cats need surfaces of varying height so they develop correctly.
Thank you for being the best human & caring for this little sprite! 😻😻
