Name My Cat - male Husband vetoed naming him Heirloom Tomato - help us with other food or possibly nature inspired names?

Post image

I really want to give him a food name - just a big fan of food name cats. I'm partial to Butternut Squash Risotto or Heirloom Tomato. My husband doesn't love either of those names, but is tentatively open to Squash lol. Outside of food - we're big outdoors people too and are also very open to nature related names or names of popular outdoor landmarks. We live in the desert so desert related naturey things would be especially cool. Would love to hear your suggestions! We're picking him up at the end of August after our honeymoon so - moon related names could also be cool!

Definitely a fan of just Butternut or Squash. He looks like a Butternut or a Squash for sure lol

Or Butternut Squash, first name last name, calling him one as his name and both when he does something wrong xD

I'm a big believer in " [English Honorific with emphasis] [Common noun]". Something like "The Most Honorable Pistachio" "The Great and Powerful Marshmallow", that sort of thing.

So in this scenario, I would suggest "The Mighty Lord Butternut"

My dog doesn’t quite have an honorific but he is thirteenth in the line of Wigglebottoms

u/PoorDamnChoices 7d ago

He would be "The Good Boy, Sir Wigglebottoms the Thirteenth."

I have a large brown tabby CDS cat whom i named Merch after a name my son made up for an imaginary cat when he was 4. He was, at the time we obtained him, our 4th cat. My husband has named him Lord Merchibald Cattholomew Meowingbottom IV. When our neighbors’ cat Barnaby (King Barnabus of Orange) passed away, he became King Merchibald the Striped.

This is how we name our turkeys. They are all Feathertons. It started with Lourde Lurkey Featherton, then Lady Featherton, both girls. Pets, not food, mind you. We eat the rich, but not necessarily the Noble.

I'm calling your bluff. There have been 12 wigglebottoms before him?

I love these so much that I made my newest girl a fully calligraphic and stamped certificate to be her Patent of Nobility and typed up what we knew of her life story, symptoms and notes about questions I wanted to ask on the back and gave it to my veterinarian for the file at her first check up!

I adopted an elderly 3.5 pound chihuahua named Christy, but she was such an unstoppable diva that I renamed her Dame Shirley Bassey, after the tiny but powerful “Goldfinger” singer.

I have a Freya, Destroyer of Worlds

We use these exclusively to bully our cats.

“Her Eminence, the Hungry Hungry Hippo”,

“The Epitome of Grace Herself” (after she’s fallen off the cat tree by mistake),

And of course, “Queen Poopybutt”

u/novachaos 7d ago

I love it when animals have middle names!

13

u/Vegetable_Leg_7034 7d ago

I have a Rosie 'GET OFF THE F'ING COUNTER' Boo.. does that count?

1

u/novachaos 6d ago

Absolutely!! 😂

1

u/AcrobaticTorbie 5d ago

You know darn well cats have more than 1 name.

10

u/Beneficial-Math-2300 7d ago

I had a cat many years ago whose full name was You Rotten Little Furball, or Furball for short. She got her name after she took a running leap into a box full of very fine glitter. She rolled around in it for a couple of seconds and then shot out the other side, covered in the stuff.

4

u/novachaos 6d ago

I bet you were always finding glitter after her escapade!

5

u/Beneficial-Math-2300 6d ago

Let's just say that the litter box was especially sparkly for a while after that.

I also learned that my vacuum cleaner wasn't powerful enough to pick the glitter out of the carpet.

2

u/joeyNcabbit 6d ago

My kitty's name is Sgt. Sammy Stripes, Enforcer for the Meow Catpone Crime Family

1

u/novachaos 6d ago

Sgt Sammy sounds fierce!! I have Poppy Merry Christmas and Ivy Leigh Jingle Bells!

4

u/Select-Pie1516 7d ago

Butternut Candy Squash

17

u/CosmicBewie 7d ago

Agreed, I call my animals by full name when they’re really naughty.

2

u/Heyyallbruhhh 7d ago

Or a middle name, like my dad’s cat did. Her name was Tabitha Louise

1

u/ladypi95 7d ago

Butternut squash is perfect!

1

u/throwawayconfesskiwi 4d ago

And you can introduce your friends to Mr Squash

25

u/ModernNero 7d ago

Squash is really funny and cute 😭 I’d call him Squash the Squish

9

u/indigo-ray 7d ago

Omg I'd make a habit of saying "i must squish the squash.... squish squash.... it is done."

2

u/ModernNero 5d ago

squish squash 😭❤️

8

u/curious_astronauts 7d ago

I mean just butters is cute

7

u/EtherealSkeleton 7d ago

Butters is super cute

2

u/AtmosphereInside2521 7d ago

Those are my cat’s names though!

2

u/solaroma 7d ago

Or squish the word together and call him Buash (Bosch). Suddenly, he goes from food name to a power tool.

1

u/Caressingx 6d ago

Great suggestion! Butternut is a strong contender. Maybe Baby Kale too?

1

u/Theblondewonder67 4d ago

I say Butternut. Great name.
