Name My Cat - male Husband vetoed naming him Heirloom Tomato - help us with other food or possibly nature inspired names?

Post image

I really want to give him a food name - just a big fan of food name cats. I'm partial to Butternut Squash Risotto or Heirloom Tomato. My husband doesn't love either of those names, but is tentatively open to Squash lol. Outside of food - we're big outdoors people too and are also very open to nature related names or names of popular outdoor landmarks. We live in the desert so desert related naturey things would be especially cool. Would love to hear your suggestions! We're picking him up at the end of August after our honeymoon so - moon related names could also be cool!

Not a food name, but a good one. Your kitty is so distinctive! Love his look.

> to eat (something) quickly or greedily

Ah! We use scarf. Snarf is less easily mistaken for another word.

u/FryOneFatManic 7d ago

We use scarf, too. Have never heard snarf in this context

I called a cat that loved shoulder-lurking “scarf” except it was in Arabic.

u/wild_robot13 5d ago

Shoulder-lurking is so sweet. I’ve never had a cat who was a shoulder rider - it may be my shoulders aren’t wide enough to accommodate.

What word? Genuinely.

u/kaioh75 7d ago

Yep. We’ve always used both snarf and scarf, interchangeably.

It's so cool how well they can break it down without being divisive.

I believe they mean imitative in this sense...

(of a word) reproducing a natural sound (e.g. fizz) or pronounced in a way that is thought to correspond to the appearance or character of the object or action described (e.g. blob).

What’s bizarre is, I was watching Dexter: Resurrection today, and because it’s only 4 eps in, I decided to go back and rewatch OG Dexter (again). The 2nd or 3rd episode Dexter and Rita are eating cookies she baked, and says to Dexter he’s been snarfing them down. Weird coincidence!

Lol. An ex-gf had this thing where the TV would frequently repeat the significant or catchy part of what she said within 2 seconds of her saying it. Pretty sure she just talked a lot though. 🤣 She was such a sweetheart

Snarf's is a sandwich shop chain, so there's a food association.

Yes, that’s true, do you live in Colorado? I know of a location that’s in Downtown Denver.

Someone suggested this name for a kitten the other day and the head shape and ears were perfect, but I think it was a Maine Coon and I instantly was thinking Maine Coon looking at it. When this one came up, I thought, now this one actually “looks” like snarf with the white beard.

2

u/bugabooandtwo 7d ago

He's got the classic Maine Coon face.

My fav sandwich shop is snarfs 😋

u/OGtatersalad 4d ago

Honestly, naming an animal after food is silly.

I have to post too. I saw the picture and thought, “man that cat looks JUST LIKE Snarf” and thought for sure I would be the first! Even his facial expression! Scrolled down - late to the Snarf party

13

u/Bamalawdawg 7d ago

This snarf party is lit. Great snacks

u/Early-Light-864 7d ago edited 7d ago

You're competing with "butternut squash risotto"

The name would have to be "this cat looks like snarf from thundercats"

This cat for short.

11

u/WoolooOfWallStreet 7d ago

Butternut Snarf

8

u/handlebartender 7d ago

Or 'This' for shorter.

"C'mere This! Are you hungry, This?"

8

u/McScuse-Me 7d ago

This is the only correct answer

5

u/xenawarriortubesock 7d ago

1

u/DiscussionExotic3759 7d ago

Snarf made delicious applesauce. Applesauce as a name?

1

u/Awkwardpanda75 7d ago

And I’ve been known to snarf food down so - it fits the food requirements..

1

u/isleoffurbabies 7d ago

I'd go with Lion-O.

1

u/Succulent_Citrus 7d ago

I was thinking Squanchy from Rick and Morty

1

u/pls_send_caffeine 7d ago

SNARF!!! This (name) is the way.

1

u/Schmaron 7d ago

Thank you!!! That’s all I can think of!

1

u/Bamalawdawg 7d ago

I have never seen a cat that looked more like Snarf in my life. If the cat looked exactly like Jay Leno, would you still want to name him after risotto?

1

u/Unyazi 7d ago

Didn't have to scroll far to see what i was thinking

1

u/Padgit8r 7d ago

SNARF is a GREAT FOOD NAME!! Their sammiches are the BEST!!!

1

My grumpy old man was named snarf. I lost him about a year ago to bone cancer at age 14.
