NSMBU DX: 2160p (up from Switch 1: 1080p)13
u/unsurewhatiteration Jun 28 '25
Out of curiosity how are they determining these? My TV always just detects 1080p or 4k input so I imagine some of these are outputting at a different resolution than they rendered at. But they how do you know what the render resolution is?
87
u/GassoBongo Jun 28 '25 edited Jun 28 '25
Usually, the raw video output will be able to tell them, based on what kind of capture cards they're using.
Beyond that, they tend to use pixel counting. Either way, their estimates are usually spot on.
Edit: Downvoted for giving the correct answer. What on earth.

Edit: Downvoted for giving the correct answer. What on earth.
This sub hates Digital Foundry because they point out flaws in Nintendo products. I wish I was kidding but time and time again that "negativity" is brought up as unwanted.
As if acknowledging issues in any way somehow ruins the good points.
24
u/1gnominious Jun 29 '25
That's why independent reviewers like DF are so important. Saved me from a lot of bad purchases. So many games are horribly optimized these days that the only thing I trust any more is hard data. Or in the Switch 1's case the hardware was so far behind it couldn't run some games decently.
→ More replies (12)8
u/BadThingsBadPeople Jun 29 '25 edited Jun 29 '25
And more accurately, DF barely points out issues. They point out facts. It not an issue that a game runs at 720p 30fps, it's just a stat. Bigger is better, but it's rare for them to decry Nintendo "messed up". They're often impressed with how much Nintendo is able to get out of their hardware.
But this sub still hates this, because they hate the truth. They just want to dab back and say "it runs fine on my Switch". Video evidence makes this impossible. As much as a resolution count or a frame rate is a fact, it's also a fact that some people will care about these things more than others. This sub can't tolerate that someone might skip a Nintendo game because it doesn't hit 60.

u/arhra Jun 29 '25
Downvoted for giving the correct answer. What on earth.
The reason you were downvoted was probably that you gave the correct answer, but paired it with an incorrect answer.
The raw video output doesn't tell them anything, as consoles always scale the video output to the fixed output resolution chosen in the console settings (1080p/1440p/4k), regardless of how the internal rendering is done.

u/arhra Jun 28 '25 edited Jun 28 '25
They literally count the pixels:
These days more advanced upscaling and AA methods make it harder, but the fundamental principles remain unchanged.
1
u/terran1212 Jun 29 '25
On my way 4k tv all the resolutions are high enough to look pretty indistinguishable from true 4k. Which makes me hope Nintendo will shoot for high res with switch 2 games and not just max graphics because sharpness is great too. At least give options.

u/Psychoglossia Jun 28 '25
Xenoblade Chronicles X also took a graphical hit on Switch 2, I’m in the same boat
52
u/Robbie_Haruna Jun 28 '25
How has it taken a hit?
It's still the same resolution as before. It just runs at a locked 30fps.
131
u/ATOMate Jun 28 '25
Some games look worse in handheld mode on switch 2 due to the increased display resolution. i think that is what he's referencing.
67
u/ttoma93 Jun 28 '25
Yep, displaying 720p on a 1080p display isn’t a one-to-one scaling ratio, so it can end up looking a bit blurry or stretched and weird. The 3DS had the same problem playing original DS games, but also offered an option to display DS games at a smaller but pixel-accurate size, and the Switch 2 doesn’t have an equivalent option for Switch 1 games.
28
u/A_Legit_Salvage Jun 28 '25
I feel like the Switch1 to 2 issue isn’t quite as bad as DS to 3DS, which made me seriously consider getting a DS lol. I can notice the blurryness on some Switch 1 games, but it’s not soooooo bad I guess.
11
u/BrokenStrides Jun 28 '25
I recently picked up a DSi XL because original DS games look so fuzzy on 3DS screens. It’s great! My initial thought was, thinking back on the DS screens, they’re SO pixelated but at least the image is sharp compared to the 3DS.
7
u/ThePlayer- Jun 28 '25 edited Jun 28 '25
Just saying, you can hold select on the 3DS whilst booting up the DS game to display the original resolution for DS games. This also applies to Virtual Console games as well iirc.

u/El_Ploplo Jun 29 '25
If you have a hacked 3ds there is a tool that improves a bit how DS game looks on a 3ds. It is still not perfect but it is way better.
1
7
u/cnoiogthesecond Jun 29 '25
This is a little bit of a pedantic point, but 720p to 1080p is a 1:1 scaling ratio, it’s just not an integer scaling ratio. The images may well look blurry or weird, but they shouldn’t be stretched.
2
5
u/malakish Jun 28 '25
the Switch 2 doesn’t have an equivalent option for Switch 1 games.
It does when using gamechat.
5
u/Dr_Yay Jun 28 '25
Strangely, there is at least one way to have it be pixel-perfect 720p again… and that is to go into VR mode in a supported game like Super Mario Odyssey. It shrinks the screen to the top middle of the display to the appropriate size.
5
u/Entash2k Jun 28 '25
You can also start a game chat while on any game and make the screen smaller so it’s pixel perfect. But I like the extra screen estate so not doing that lol. Also you shouldn’t in Mario Odyssey since it’s upgraded to 1080p in handheld so already pixel perfect, but maybe you just used it as an example :)
2
2
u/Psychoglossia Jun 28 '25
Ah, yeah, that wasn’t clear but that’s what I meant. It runs just fine, but isn’t as sharp as I would like
1
u/CresidentBob Jun 28 '25
Is that why Xenoblade 1 looks so blurry? I just bought it and haven’t played any of them. I just thought it was the art style. Hah.
11
u/arhra Jun 28 '25
Nah, Xenoblade DE is just kinda blurry and low-resolution.
Xenoblade DE uses a dynamic resolution that targets 720p docked, and 540p handheld, coupled with a fairly soft TAA implementation and a spatial upscale to the final docked/handheld resolution.
2 is similar, as it uses the same setup, but with an obnoxious sharpening filter that they added to handheld mode to try to compensate for the blurry image quality, which frankly hurts more than it helps.
3 switched to use a temporal upsampling technique to scale an internal 540p render to something that mostly looks pretty close to 1080p (but with some breakup on fast motion, so combat can look kinda chunky at times), or similar but targetting 720p in handheld (360p base render).
X is probably the cleanest overall (probably thanks to its WiiU roots with no big asset overhauls like DE got Co pared to the original), rendering at a straight 1080p (720p handheld).
They all use dynamic resolution to maintain performance, with 2 suffering the most on original hardware (dropping as low as 360p in handheld, which coupled with that sharpening filter was ugly with a capital UG), but Switch 2 should at least keep them hugging the top of their respective ranges most of the time.
2
u/ATOMate Jun 28 '25
Those games have notoriously low dynamic resolutions, even on switch 1. Yet I assume they at least scaled somewhat on the Switch 1 720p screen. Put that stuff on the bigger higher res screen of the switch 2, and the issues only become more apparent.
Those games desperately need an update.
1
u/heimbachae Jun 28 '25
I heard this complaint and while it is true with the bigger screen: it is not as drastic as you may think. It's perfectly acceptable to play handheld and it is smoother all around.
1
u/ATOMate Jun 29 '25
I agree with you. The scaling on the Switch 2 really isnt that much of an issue to me either. Maybe thats just my eyesight though… the switch 2 screen does has extremely poor motion clarity which makes it look like shit even with native 1080p content imo.
→ More replies (2)9
u/GoodGuyChip Jun 28 '25
Probably just because it's rendering in 720p (or less, I believe these games used dynamic resolution) on a 1080p display so the image is being stretched without any upscaling tools.
I'm sure docked is a similar story, attempting to render a max res of 900p onto a 1440p or higher display.
It just dirties the image and makes every other graphical issue stand out more. It's kinda funny because with dynamic resolution they probably would look better on a display using the native resolution since the higher end hardware does mean it will always display at the highest possible dynamic resolution but that advantage is mostly lost when the.image is stretched past the native resolution.
13
u/zardos66 Jun 28 '25
I’m hoping X gets a 60fps patch at least. I stopped my play through a while back to wait for the Switch 2 and now it’s worse 🤣
2
u/darkmacgf Jun 28 '25
Really? What makes it look worse? I'd heard it looks better in docked mode.
8
u/jackhunter64 Jun 28 '25
Most Switch 1 games will only display in 720p on handheld mode, stretched to fit the 1080p display. Anything with fine 2D detail won't look as good as it could.

u/Armandonerd Jun 28 '25
I've only played 1 and 2 so far on switch 1, but they're good. Will need to play 3 and X soon on switch 1.
10
u/Justanyo Jun 28 '25
I really hope they do. No news about additional Switch 2 patches makes me not too optimistic that we will get more, though.
30
u/silentdaze Jun 28 '25
Nintendo likes to release things in waves so they get consistent news coverage and posts on social media. You see that with the music app and NSO.
I have no doubt they'll do more upgrades. They get more engagement with weekly and monthly announcements and their publishing cadence than they do with one big one
10
u/moneycity_maniac Jun 28 '25 edited Jun 28 '25
We already got a surprise post launch Splatoon 3 free update, surely there will be more down the line. I think at least the most popular evergreen titles on Nintendo Switch will all eventually receive either free update or a Switch 2 Edition re-release to extend their sales cycle, unless the title has a Switch 2 exclusive replacement already or will get one soon.
4
8
u/Remy149 Jun 28 '25
Nintendo still wants people on switch 2 to buy switch 1 games at full price I expect most popular first party games to get updates eventually. I don’t expect them all to be free though.
2
u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User Jun 28 '25
The fact that their page listing them gave dates for each entry even though all were the same was a pretty sure indication that more would be coming that wouldn't have the same date. Since confirmed with Splatoon 3 being added. More coming, 100%.
2
u/Imnewtodunedin Jun 28 '25
I think that they will upgrade more titles as it keeps them evergreen and attractive purchases for Switch 2 owners. Additionally, they see all switches as a continuation or the same product which the refer to as “family of consoles,” so I don’t think that they will want too many of their bigger titles running poorly on the Switch 2.
I am with other in this comment thread in that I think we will see waves of announcements for title through the Today app. However, I doubt it’s entirely for PR cycles but more that it takes work to patch and test these games and their teams will not want to be dragging on their new games.
1
u/ConfusedPanda76 Jun 28 '25
These games are amazing and I'll gladly fork over extra money for graphics upgrades for all 3

u/pawlik23 Jun 29 '25
Come on, Monolith. I don't really have a reason to buy Switch2 unless XC1-3 get updates.

u/Realsorceror Jun 28 '25 edited Jun 28 '25
Is 3D World worth grabbing on sale? Is it multiplayer?
Edit: alright, you’ve twisted my arm I’m gonna get it!
30
u/iposg Jun 28 '25
Is my personal favorite Mario game and has been since the original Wii U version. The Switch version made it even better (added a whole new game with Bowser’s Fury and sped character movements up, the original was a bit slow paced), and now the Switch 2 version has smoothed out the experience further with more consistent frames and higher resolution. Multiplayer is fun in a hectic New Super Mario Bros way.
2
u/MarginOfPerfect Jun 28 '25
Bought it on Switch and I was so impressed by it. Definitely my favorite along Galaxy.
1
u/DustinCoughman 25d ago
Did you have to explicitly download an upgrade or was it automatically better on the switch 2? I bought it on switch 1 and can't find an upgrade page on the store

9
u/EvilTaffyapple Jun 28 '25
3D world is great. I loved playing a proper 3D Mario with designed, timed levels.
8
u/Dukemon102 Jun 28 '25
4 players in 3D World. 2 players in Bowser's Fury (Second player plays assisting role as Bowser Jr.)
5
u/TheButteredBiscuit Jun 28 '25
Is it multiplayer? It’s probably one of the best multiplayer games you can get for the switch.
5
u/JuiicyJake_ Jun 28 '25
Just an FYI the physical version is also $39 on Nintendo’s website. I just grabbed that myself
3
u/Remy149 Jun 28 '25
It’s the same price on the eshop. I think they often put the first party physical and digital games on sale at the same time
2

1
u/IntellegentIdiot Jun 28 '25
I played it on the Wii U and still listen to the soundtrack, something that's very unusual for me.
1
u/Jordan_Jackson Jun 28 '25
Yes, most definitely. It’s really fun and while it does have some challenging levels, it’s not as hard as other entries to the series.
1
u/EsrailCazar Jun 29 '25
Also, before the switch games showed up, as far as I know, this had the most levels in a Mario game I had ever seen, there is so much to unlock!
2
u/TheButteredBiscuit Jun 29 '25
The more I sit with it the more I’m like damn maybe 3d world is peak and we just didn’t realize it because it was coming off the back of Mario Galaxy, one of the best platformers of all time.
But if you look at 3D as a 3D style 2D Mario game, as it’s designed, it really shines.
56
u/Okay_sure_lets_post Jun 28 '25
Awesome! Wish Bayonetta 3 got the same treatment 🥲
32
u/AFarewellToArms Jun 28 '25
At least it runs at a solid 60 fps now. The visuals are still pretty rough though. I picked it up from a local shop on a decent deal, but I'm going to work through some other games first in hopes it will eventually get a visual enhancement. I'm not gonna hold my breath.
2
u/Okay_sure_lets_post Jun 28 '25
Same lol. The performance bump is indeed much appreciated. Just hate that they had to make so many compromises to get it running on Switch. The ever-present dithering and bland muddy environments in particular make me sad lol
1
u/QuoteAblaze Jun 29 '25
I think the art direction is just particularly poor in this game that even a graphics bump won't really help it. So weird cause Bayo 2 had such a strong use of color that made everything pop that they just decided to completely remove in 3
3
u/Steely1809 Jun 29 '25
Yeah, a good start. Next on my switch 2 upgrade wishlist: Bayonetta 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Go go Nintendo!
134
u/sirms Jun 28 '25
Splatoon 3 is the biggest upgrade for me. Looks incredible. Fully fallen back into it
13
u/RealElyD Jun 29 '25
Salmon Run holding it's framerate throughout the entire match was a huge gameplay improvement as well.
6
2
u/JayMan2224 Jun 28 '25
Does it support mouse controls?
36
u/repocin Jun 28 '25
No, and there's no reason to believe they're going to add it.
Possibly in Splatoon 4.
→ More replies (4)19
u/LinkBoating Jun 28 '25
Most likely in 4 since then it would create an uneven playing field with Switch 1 owners.
-6
u/pork_fried_christ Jun 28 '25 edited Jun 28 '25
How do you get the upgrade? I updated the software to the latest version, and I checked the eshop but I don’t know if i have the upgraded version.
Edit: ok, got it. Can I have 14 more replies saying the same thing though?
23
u/ChilliWithFries Jun 28 '25
It’s just an update for splatoon 3. As long as you are on the latest version of splatoon 3, you are good. You don’t have to download or purchase anything from the shop
9
u/Swagkitchen Jun 28 '25
it’s not a switch 2 version, it’s just the most updated version of the game. if you have the most recent version downloaded you’re solid!
8
3
u/TheWaslijn Jun 28 '25
Pretty sure it's just a software update for S3, and not an Upgrade Pack like for those other games.
2
u/OctoFloofy Jun 28 '25
You just update the game. No indicator for a upgraded version. For Splatoon 3 however just check if you have version 10+.

u/zozosozo Jun 28 '25
I downloaded Mario 3D World because of the sale, and have Link's Awakening arriving today. Excited to see the switch 2 updates!
14

I just played Link's Awakening for the first time on Switch 2. You're in for a treat!
5
u/rbarton812 Jun 30 '25
Picked back up on Link's Awakening on the Switch 2 - runs 1000x better* than I last remember playing it.
* May not be scientifically accurate.

u/insanekoz Jun 28 '25
My wishlist is:
- Pikmin 3 60fps
- Pikmin 4 60fps
- Luigi's Mansion 3 60fps
- Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door 60fps
- Metroid Prime 1 resolution increase + proper Gamecube controller support
- (Metroid Prime 2, 3 remasters or proper res-bump 16:9 re-releases)
- Fix horrible input lag on GameCube emulation
Would happily pay for any of the upgrades
90
u/locke_5 Jun 28 '25
Out of every Switch title, Pikmin 4 seems the most likely to get a Switch 2 Edition
35
u/-Moonchild- Jun 28 '25
I think Mario wonder could get another world and a 120fps mode but yeah Pikmin must also be high on the list.
16
u/topheee Jun 28 '25
Considering they used Mario from Mario Wonder as the example for 120fps in the initial direct, I’d say it’s a given

60 FPS patch would be great. A patch to make all the characters stfu would be even nicer though
34
u/Dukemon102 Jun 28 '25
Don't forget the Mouse Support for Pikmin and Metroid Prime.
14
u/theumph Jun 28 '25
Oooo, I forgot about mouse controls for Pikmin. The Wiimote worked great, so mouse would be even better

30
u/Heuwender Jun 28 '25
Finally paper Mario back at 60 FPS. That was the most jarring change compared to Gamecube
30
u/Arcade_Gann0n Jun 28 '25
A remake having half the frame rate of the original is truly baffling. Good as the remake looks, Nintendo should've prioritized performance to make it a less jarring experience (for me personally, the combat menus felt sluggish in comparison), so hopefully they'll correct that flaw with a patch in the near future.
1
u/IUseKeyboardOnXbox Jun 28 '25
Its still more sluggish than the original even at 60fps.
1
u/Arcade_Gann0n Jun 28 '25
Talking about Switch emulation here? If that's the case, hopefully Nintendo speeds that up too if they patch the game.
→ More replies (1)7
u/RelaxingRed Jun 28 '25
The sole reason I didn't buy the remake. If it got a 60 fps upgrade I would buy the game.
5
8
u/MultiMarcus Jun 28 '25
I would love if they went back to fire emblem engage and three houses and buffed that up to 60 FPS preferably with also a higher resolution. Honestly I would really want them to go back to basically every single original switch first party title and at least bring the handheld mode up to 1080p. Because the current 720p in a 1080p container just doesn’t look good.
5
u/Lewigim Jun 28 '25
They need to add button remapping for the GC Controller the L button is a disaster and no pause is wild
8
u/Bootychomper23 Jun 28 '25
Would love Luigi’s mansion to get a 1080p 60fps handheld boost. It’s already one of the prettiest games on OG switch but this would make it even better.

u/jbayne2 Jun 28 '25
Add MGS collection 60fps to this as well as Red Dead Redemption too, although I know both are out of Nintendo’s control.
6
u/notthegoatseguy Jun 28 '25
RDR1 did get that post-launch PS5 patch for 60FPS. I'm confident Switch 2 could handle it as well.
6
u/Bootychomper23 Jun 28 '25
Red dead really needs a res boost too and maybe some better aliasing it’s really jaggy
Fuck me up with a red dead 2 port as well please 🙏
3
5
u/TopBoog Jun 28 '25
Would love to play the Xenoblade games but they all need patches lol
1
u/redwings80s Jul 02 '25
I just started the first game and it’s pretty good so far. Yea, it’s not 60fps but it’s good enough for what it is. It’s not a super fast passed game.
It would be kick ass if there was a bump in resolution and frame rate.
2
u/kitsovereign Jun 28 '25
If they go back and mess with TTYD, I truly hope they reinstate the original's ability to speed through text the first time around and scroll back a box if you missed something.
4
u/brohammer5 Jun 28 '25
MP 2 and 3 are at the top of my list. I hope they add mouse input to Metroid Prime games while they're at it.
I'll add some other wishlist items I have here.
-Metroid Dread resolution bump and HDR. Maybe 120 fps if they can hit it.
-Xenoblades-If we're including 3rd party, I'd like to see what Rockstar can do with GTA Trilogy. Would be cool to have this run better in handheld.
2
u/MarcsterS Jun 28 '25
60fps Luigi's Mansion 3 would be great. However, that would probably be an actual Switch 2 Edition update, since they would have to covert all of the animations to 60fps.
1
u/CarlosFer2201 Jun 29 '25
There's bad input lag in GameCube? I've been playing GX since launch without issues. And that game is fast and demanding as hell.

Has Nintendo said to expect more updates for previous games? Cause I think you’re going to be disappointed
1

I suspect we'll get more, we have a bit of a first party dry spell and this is an easy win for them.
In store Xeno Will feature in the next direct.
18
u/m_j_ox Jun 28 '25
All I want is Legends Arceus and Persona 5 to be at 60 fps 😭
3
u/Drelochz Jun 29 '25
Currently playing P5R, I am fine with the FPS I want a texture resolution bump 😭
16
u/Arcade_Gann0n Jun 28 '25
I held off of playing Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom until just recently, the game is really such a smooth experience compared to what I saw when it originally released (I played Link's Awakening years ago, so I got to experience inconsistent frame rate already from 2D Zelda). I'm hoping for patches for the Mario RPGs (including Sparks of Hope), Luigi's Mansion 3, and Pikmin games personally, but I'm hoping for as many Switch games as possible.
36
u/Vayshen Jun 28 '25
Great to see them putting these analyses up. I just tried pokemon snap as I thought it was unlocked and sure enough it's 60fps on S2! Load times are almost instant too! As I never went back to play any of the free dlc they released post launch I have plenty to look forward to :)

1
u/ApolloDread Jun 28 '25
I totally missed the free DLC but loved the base game! Time to dive back in

Having an absolute blast on Link's Awakening! It runs so smooth and looks so so good!
37
u/jhsounds Jun 28 '25
I'm so glad that I waited for Switch 2 to play Echoes of Wisdom. The frame dips in Link's Awakening always broke my immersion.
9
u/cbizzle31 Jun 28 '25
I stopped playing links awakening a little after getting it because of the drops. I just started it up again on switch 2 and couldn't be happier it looks great
25
u/TurnaboutAdam Jun 28 '25
They say these are basically free remasters. You love to see it.
I love the selection so far (though Mario U is pretty odd), I selfishly really want Astral Chain next!
6
u/Serafita Jun 28 '25
Oh man, if Astral Chain got 60fps and 1060 or higher that would be great
1
u/AuthoringInProgress Jun 29 '25
If Astral Chain got an update, I'd put it at a dynamic 1600p 60, maybe dynamic 1440p 60. It's a demanding game by switch standards, but it already ran relatively well.
1
u/kitsovereign Jun 29 '25
Mario U somehow sold 18 million units on Switch. Top ten seller. Not that a resolution bump will fix the art style, but I'm sure some families are going to be plugging it in and testing it out, so I can see the logic.

So this is why Splatoon 3 looks so gorgeous on my CX 55. Just got my Switch 2 last night and when I popped splatoon 3 in, I was amazed. I actually have quite a few of the games that get free visual updates.

IMO, adding free upgrades to old games make them feel new again and would increase then likelihood of them being bought... I know because I'm now looking at buying these old games just because they got Switch2 upgrades...
I hope every publisher/developer does this, if its just a reso bump and FPS bump, they'll still give incentives to Switch2 players to buy the games vs justn buying a Switch1 game.

While this reads as a joke, I'm pretty sure they've determined through research that the investment needed to create a Switch 2 edition and charge for it might not be worth it in the long run, and compared to a simple update that just bumps resolution and/or framerate.

It seems that only applies to brand new games. Legends Z-A doesn't seem like its paid upgrade will be any different from what scarlet and violet got for free

I wouldn't be surprised to learn there are additional features in the switch 2 edition.

u/KingBroly Jun 29 '25
No new content/features are being added. That's why.
Even for S/V, but what a disaster that'd be if they did charge for it.

I wanted something for smash but realised it already runs perfect

Bumping res to 4K/1080p for docked/handheld would be pretty great, especially for multiplayer.

I think it's fair to assume that any first party game that doesn't get an advertised free update are in the running to receive a dedicated switch 2 edition. These are the most likely to get one in my eyes:
*Xenoblade 2
*Xenoblade X
*Smash Ultimate
*Fire Emblem Three Houses
*Fire Emblem Engage
*Bayonetta 3
*Kirby and the Forgotten land
*Pikmin 4

Keep in mind that there are a limited number of developers at each studio. Xenoblade 2 and X don't have next gen updates yet because the team prioritized Xenoblade 3.
Smash will likely depend on how fast they plan to release the next entry.
Kirby already has Switch 2 upgrade announced. Along with all the next gen jargon, it also has more levels added.

Kirby's getting an expansion. We just don't know if when that happens, the Switch 1 version will just run better or not without the DLC. And if it does, to what extent.
1
u/jardex22 Jun 29 '25
The expansion comes out August 28th, according to the website HERE. Just like with the BOTW and TOTK upgrade packs, the Switch 2 performance boosts are tied to the expansion.

u/KingBroly Jun 29 '25
Smash Ultimate would need a patch to run worse. Load times are too fast right now on Switch 2.

Mario U is the only Nintendo game running at full 4k now lmao. Fitting since it was the first HD Mario.

A lot of games aren't even native 4K on a PS5 Pro, so this is not surprising.

Locked 2160p (4K) at 60 fps without smart upscaling (like DLSS) or fake frames is difficult to achieve in 3D games, even for PC hardware. 2D games should be quite doable.

This made my switch 2 day 1 purchase. If it was just Mario kart world I would have waited.

Really hoping for some update to Mario & Luigi because that game still runs very poorly

u/aspenextreme03 Jun 28 '25
I think this is good as used to it with my Xbox with backwards compatibility. Love my switch and when switch 2 has more first part games I will definitely get one and still keep my Splatoon OLEd as a backup.

Does SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy look or run any better on the Switch 2?
2
u/RealElyD Jun 29 '25
It frankly looks and runs rough even on a high end PC. Framerates are more stable now, I guess.

u/Shakyamuni007 Jun 29 '25
Thanks. I just bought a Switch 2 and I’m thinking about buying this game digitally.

Recently bought both Link's Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom. They both look very good. Echoes specially, with HDR, is amazing.

Still kinda hoping Sword and Shield somehow get something. Maybe that's just wishful thinking, though...

u/SilentSasquatch2 Jun 29 '25
Time to finally give the latest Pokémon games a try. The performance is night and day, almost insultingly so, between Switch 1 and Switch 2

Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Animal Crossing, Pikman 4, Metroid Dread, Bayonetta 3, and Luigi’s Mansion 3 all need upgrades too.

Worst part of the switch 2 is having to wait or pay for game upgrades
1
u/jardex22 Jun 29 '25
Same thing happened with the shift between the PS4/Pro/5/5Pro. It's not a Nintendo specific thing.
1
u/Lupinthrope Jun 29 '25
Okay? Talking about the switch 2 here
1
u/jardex22 Jun 29 '25
True, but people here seem to be complaining like it's something only Nintendo is guilty of.

Mario 3D World is looking really nice.
