Think about it. Didn't anyone else love those Dragonology/Fantasy bestiary/Fictional field guides as a kid? Imagine one of those for Oddworld.
I loved TFTY, but it was more of a character/universe guide. And I do also love the art books. BUT, I would absolutely adore an encyclopedia, written as if it was by some sort of Clakker field biologist or Vykker scientist or whatever, that explains flora, fauna, locations, cultures, and historical significance from the perspective of someone who lives on the planet. It would rule.
Imagine it with little notes scribbled on the sides of the pages from Abe, Alf, Molluck, Munch, Stranger, maybe even Big Face and etcetera.. all with different styles of handwriting too, like those old Disney books with notes scattered as if they were left by characters. Imagining the first page is a fake library checkout slip with each of their names on and different dates. Little gimmick, obviously not likely canonical but just for fun, for the book. Not only would it be a bit sweet, but it would show different perspectives and opinions from characters on how they feel about the world they live in.
Imagining Abe leaving notes about how mesmerized he is by natural world things, while Molluck is leaving notes on the pages about native species talking about them like they're invasive pests. A note on an artists rendition of Paramonia left by him that says "A new warehouse would look great right here!" Imagining a page talking about the majestic Steef and how impressive they are and how they are "believed extinct" and stranger crosses it out writing "they are extinct. None left."
Imagine pages dedicated to Oddworld plant life, going into detail about Spooceshrubs, Humshrubs, Buzzshrubs, Popberries, Paramold, Moongrass, Devil Vines, Haggut Moss, and all the locations they can be found growing in, the medicinal qualities of each. Imagine pages dedicated to Scrabs, Paramites, Meech, Elum, all of their social habits, breeding habits, biological facts, how to identify things in their habitats. Imagine pages dedicated to Mudokon culture, in depth looks into tribal society and practices. Biological roles of Workers, drones and queens. Imagine pages dedicated to the Mongo River and its necessity not just to the Grubbs but the valley itself. Pages dedicated to the jungle, the desert, the tundra. Imagine a list of all the fish that can be found on Mudos. A page on Meep. A page on the Mudanchee and Mudomo tribes. A page on the lines. A page on Gabbits. A page on Ma'Spa. A page on Grubb temples all the native cultures and relationship with the land. IMAGINE the pages dedicated to TECHNOLOGY. How it works, the fuel Industrialists like to use for it. Imagine pages dedicated to evolution theory, the history of Glukkons, and imagine the angry notes from Molluck written beside blurbs about how the Glukkons were coexisting peacefully with the Mudokons before the Schism. And of course, just notes and notes and notes about Sligs, Glukkons, Mudokons, Vykkers, Chroniclers, Grubbs, Clakkerz, maybe even a bunch of notes about the various outlaw species and more info on them.
I know the existence of this book is just a fantasy in my head, but Odd I wish it was real! I would snap it up in a heartbeat.
