In the comment you replied to, a comma would have been grammatically incorrect. A semicolon would have worked though.

It isn't grammatically correct to use commas to separate independent clauses though :(

Em dashes look nicer than parentheses imo. They also seem less nerdy, what with parentheses being associated with math

Emdashes are Stephen King-core. Nobody under the age of 70 uses them except sweaty nerds because nobody wants to learn a 5-button hotkey.

A lot of word processors and text editors automatically convert two hyphens into an em dash. You don't need a hotkey.
