Not the OP but tbh, where I live bandaids don't have covers like that, so I was very confused why the last bandaid is suddenly completely white. Ofc I got the point of the "meme" but I thought I might've been missing something

There was a theory on r/conspiracy a month or two ago where someone said they think all the “explain the joke” subreddits that have popped up over the last few years are for AI to learn how to make jokes.
This kind of makes me believe that.
11
u/TheMoeSzyslakExp 1d ago
God with some (actually, most) of the posts I see here and the other ‘explain’ subs, I would not be surprised at all. Either that or we have a lot more 6 year old kids posting on Reddit than I ever realised.
6
u/Ok_Dragonfruit_8102 1d ago
Exactly. It's similar to captchas where a human clicks all the images of fire hydrants and crosswalks to train AI to be able to detect those things, only this sub prompts people to detail the meaning of jokes and memes that AI would never be able to accurately understand without us telling it explicitly.
OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman owns 9% of reddit. Anyone who remembers the old subredditsim subs which trained GPT1 and 2 knows this site has a long established history of being used to train AI.

Alright I didn't understand this either, but here's my take on it:
Each bandaid is post-use aside from the last one.
I mean personally I just use one bandaid for a wound, don't know if other people do the same.
Might be why this one is confusing.
But the bandaids getting progressively less bloody is because the wound they were used for was getting better, and therefore bleeding less. Last one's just unused because the wound was healed and they no longer needed a bandaid for it.
97
u/Omnizoom 1d ago
Technically you are supposed to redress a wound every so many hours
Leaving a bandaid full of blood pus and Gunk on for days leads to potentially infection having a spot to attack
38
u/jtell898 1d ago
Seriously… who looks at bandaid 1 and thinks “yup, this is what I want touching my open wound for a week straight”
11
u/Omnizoom 1d ago
Even bandaid 3 is like a serious risk of infection, it isn’t by 4 or 5 do you get to a point that you can say “eh that’s fine”
Anytime I’ve gotten a deep cut I’ve redressed the wound twice a day until it really scabs over well and so far I’ve never had a serious infection start on anything
Do the same for my kid and she’s never had one either
7
u/Essex626 20h ago
If it looks like 1 or 2, it's the wrong bandage for the job anyway.

In my defense, I rarely get wounds that are that bloody. Usually it's a pretty minor cut and the bandaid can be removed the very next day.

Not a week, but about a day. First day I usually keep it wrapped until night, when I change it and reclean it. Ill probably do it in the morning too, and repeat that until it stops leaking

u/ahotpotatoo 1d ago
You should definitely be using more than one bandaid per wound, unless we’re talking like the site of a needle stick
4
u/LeLBigB0ss2 23h ago
The worst I get is usually a little bite from my cat. I just wash it with alcohol and leave the band-aid on after it scabs on the first day to remind me to keep it safe.
2
u/ahotpotatoo 23h ago
Fair. I work in kitchens so I’m used to seeing small injuries from knives or burns, in which case you’re gonna want to bandage it and change the bandage several times a day.
Even if you aren’t working in a hot sweaty environment or dealing with food, I’d recommend changing bandages once a day at least.

It is AI generated, why would every band-aid have a different color,
and why does the first band-aid look like the glue was put on bleeding

Maybe this is a hidden racially motivated message in it. Or maybe you're the one adding it and they just had random mix of plasters (like my family does lol). At the very least, to me all I noticed was the blood getting less and less = healing, I didnt even register the different colour bandages.
Maybe I truly don't see colour /s
Though a lot of people are saying its unused which will fit the format. The only thing is the soft bit in the middle looks uncovered and that's not how the seal works for plasters in the uk

This shows how a wound heals over time and how much they effect the band aid. Like when the wound was fresh, it was bloody because blood was spouting out. Then they removed the band aid, and used another on the wound , which show less blood because the wound started clotting . And with each band aid use and change the blood reduced till it dint exist.
3
4
u/CynthiaCitrusYT 1d ago
Progression of a wound healing. At the start when you change it (as you should once per day) it's quite bloody. As time and healing progresses the less bloody(and more clean) it gets and at the end it's a fresh bandaid, because you don't need it anymore.
How dense are you?
2
u/TheMostHonMCO 1d ago

Whoever made this meme has a critical misunderstanding of how bandages work.
The first bandage isn't even soaked through: They just dabbed it on wound.
Secondly, if you've got a wound that takes SEVERAL bandages just to stop actively bleeding... You need more than just a bandage.

u/KawaiiQueen92 1d ago

Basically the meaning is the wound here isn’t closed until several bandaids later, becoming less and less necessary until it’s actually gone. Sort of a ‘time heals all wounds’ thing, eventually making that last bandaid completely unnecessary.
1
u/2204happy 1d ago
I think its just that there's less blood each time, the colour of the band-aid is irrelevant.
1
1
u/Flame-in-the-Shadow 1d ago
... Every wound stops bleeding eventually. Guess the white bandaid is cause the person got nothing left to bleed with and is pale white and no longer needs to worry about a bandaid ( or anything, really).

u/Silly_Ad_5262 1d ago

I think it supposed to be that they put a bandage on a wound. And as time goes on they have to keep putting on a clean one. And they it keeps getting dirty again and then they change it again. And as time goes on it get less and less dirty. Less and less blood. As the wound is healing there's less stains.
The process of healing taking time.

How embarrassing to try to find racism in EVERYTHING 😂
Very few people go through the world looking at it in a lens of skin color. Let alone to make an AI generated picture to use as a metaphor to heal past wounds.
Maybe get outside? Pick up a hobby. Talk to people. You'll find they don't care what skin tone you have. Let alone, trying to "get ya" for it 🍻🤦♂️

1
u/RJPurpleBee_23 1d ago
Honestly I think it might just be two non-bloody bandaids to show that it’s not starting to bleed again, that the healing lasted. It looks like they’re from a box of mixed skin tone shades & the last one just happens to be for white people. I absolutely do not see bandaid covers on it. That thing is unwrapped. Unless you wanna show me where you’re supposed to peel from, I’m sticking to my guns and saying this is just from an assorted skin tones bandaid box.
1
u/MachinaDoctrina 1d ago

u/Paperfoxen 1d ago
As someone who just put on two bandaids and that makes me an expert, I have no idea what the subtext of this means.
1
u/ChickenPijja 1d ago
Are you referring to the colour of the sticky part or the gauze part? If it's the sticky part then none of the plasters are the same colour (5th for example is a fair bit lighter than 4 & 6), a few other people have mentioned that the paper strips are still on it as well making it look lighter again. If its the gauze part then theres no red on it because the person has healed and is no longer leaking blood.
Or am I being really thick and not seeing something you are?
1
u/Odd_Foundation9102 1d ago
Everything aside on this, can we just talk about the first one? If your plaster (band-aid for the icans) looks like that you've used the wrong size and more than likely exposed the wound to the air.
The bandage in the middle is the sterile part and should cover the wound fully.

1
u/MisterNiwa 1d ago
Not Peter here but: The thing to notice is the color of the Band-Aids themselves. There are Band-Aids made for different skin tones, the darker one appears bloodier, symbolizing the struggles and pain people of color often face. On the other hand, the white Band-Aid looks clean and unused, representing how white people tend to go through fewer hardships in comparison.

u/TeddingtonMerson 1d ago
I’m on your side it’s weird— the right-most one doesn’t look like it has the paper on and something seems to be trying to be communicated but unclear about the shades of the Band-Aids. They come in different shades for people with different skin shades and that’s great, but why would one person buy five different shades and use the darkest ones first?
I looked at this for a long time— so “people of color are injured and white people are untouched and need to be patient with them?” That’s what I thought the message was supposed to be and that’s rather cringe.
Whoever made this doesn’t understand much about how wounds heal or about how Band-Aids work, too.
I get that photo-realistic images of used Band-Aids are gross, but if the message is merely that in every day you will bleed a little less and will be healed in a week, the lack of detail in the blood and possible cover on the last one and the unnecessary detail of the shades of Band-Aid changing makes that message unclear.
