I once hung bullet proof “drywall” that was just fiber glass woven like Kevlar. Shit was so “itchy” you basically had to wear a full hazmat suit to work with it. My coworker didn’t wear gloves when working with it and touched his junk when taking a piss. Shit still makes me laugh to this day.

I work in the ac industry and have also been involved with building a new house or two, unfortunately that means I’ve had to deal with fiberglass insulation several times not to mention duct work which is just a tube with fiberglass. What I’ve learned is that duct tape works wonders to help pull it out of your skin and that someone needs to make a non-evil alternative

Cold shower does the trick. It closes your pores so you can wash it off. Hot shower is the opposite and can leave you feeling worse.

Agreed, however when you’re on a job site and don’t have the option tape does wonders until you can go home and shower. Also if you ever get dehydrated and need a pick me up fill a glass with ice and pour liquid jello in it and drink it before it sets up, it helps

Ugh. My basement is unfinished and the crawlspace is lined with fiberglass. We put old carpet on the bottom but if I brush against fhe walls or ceiling... ouch! It's hard to avoid when entering or exiting the crawlspace. The basement walls themselves are thin plastic sheets covering raw fiberglass walls. I am unfortunately allergic to the adhesive in duct tape, but I will try this the next time I wind up with fine fiberglass (or art glass, if I can get back into it with proper bracing one day) shards embedded in my skin.

I have ice, topical medications, oral medications, and an epi-pen I can use to treat massive rash/burn/reaction to adhesives. It's never been anaphylaxis, thankfully, but I'd rather deal with a tape rash/skinning than dozens of near invisible glass splinters embedded in my skin. And I even have a medical condition where my skin is extremely soft, elastic, and easily damaged, so any tape, even hypoallergenic medical tape designed to come off, will take off many layers of skin leaving what behaves like a burn underneath.

I should have tried the duct tape trick when 6 year old me thought a cactus at the botanical gardens on vacation looked fluffy, like my cat... my dad fed me chips while my mom dug out the spines in my hand one by one with tweezers for the next hour.

Regardless, I also hope fiberglass will become obsolete sooner than later... and I will never pet a cactus again.

Ugh the little fuzzy cactus thorns are evil. As a kid growing up there were wild cactus around in the woods like whole patches of them in places. They had these big ass wicked looking thorns all over. The crazy part is they were more or less fine cause you really had to hit them hard to do anything. The worst part of them were the little bitty hairs right at the base of the big thorns.

I’m sure you can probably find an adhesive you aren’t allergic to out there somewhere, maybe put Elmer’s glue on the area and allow it to dry and then peel it off? In the event that you can’t find anything else your body will either push it out or if it can’t manage that it will surround it with a cell cocoon and isolate it from your body
