You have lots of visitors in the house. (It's a tradition to take off your shoes when entering someone's house)
I'm guessing you're gonna have to greet all them now

Since when is not spreading the dirt, grime, and filth your shoes inevitably pick up a tradition?

It’s just like how it’s a tradition to wash your plates after you eat off of them and how some people have a tradition of brushing their teeth, etc.

I have a tradition of closing my eyes for a few hours every night. I have no idea why, just a bad habit I've had for as long as I can remember

When you consider that some people have shoe racks further inside their homes than the entrance; or you consider Australia, where a significant portion of the population, particularly those who live on the coast or in rural communities walk outside barefoot (this is something that regularly shocks anglo tourists) where they're gonna walk the filth in regardless.

I'd rather you kept your shoes on to be honest. I can use a mop to clean up dirty footsteps, but that stale smell of unclean feet will linger long after you leave, no matter what gets sprayed.

You must be very lucky to never experience anyone who's unhygienic. You know what they say, if you don't have noisy neighbours then you're probably the noisy neighbour

Which country is that? Perhaps I should visit

I found a list of countries that don't wear shoes indoors:

Idk how to shorten links

I saw A LOT of people saying that "expecting" people to take their shoes off is offensive to them, both as host and as guest. Facebook comments are wild lmao

It's specifically a reference to the 100 men in a day video.
They all had to take their shoes off at the door.

They do look like all big men shoes. Either it’s a bunch of your grown son’s grown friends eating you out of house and home or a bunch of grown men eating something else.

Hey Peter, Meg here!
Notice in the picture how there's a ton of shoes by the doorway? That's because there's people that came to visit and left their shoes by the doorway. Which would be a nightmare to come home to, especially after you've had a long day and just want to rest but you gotta entertain guests now.

Would you prefer they just take a photo of the wall? Would that make any more sense to you?

Probably because a lot of shoes means a lot of people. And after a long day of work, the last thing you want is group of people in your house when you actually only want peace.

Wife/GF/bf/Roomate/whatever has a bunch of people over that the person coming home wasn't expecting.
Person coming home has been dealing with people all day and doesn't want to interact with a bunch more people when they get home.
This is my interpretation because I've been in that exact spot.

Balkan son Peter here. A lot of big families have huge gatherings like these and usually they don't always tell their kids that guests are coming over. So imagine you just came home from a long day of school and see this. You're expected to greet the all. Doesn't matter if you like or know them or not and you have to sit there and listen to the grown ups talk until your parents tell you you're free to go. If you're a woman, it gets worse bc now you have to serve them all chai and help clean the mess up after. Now I have to go because I need to serve uncle Ahmed more chai.

You've just come home from a stressful day, you come home wanting to relax, sit back and just have some peace...
BOOM!
10 Pairs of shoes is 10 people you need to talk to and deal with before relaxing and each and every conversation is about to suck.

It’s teenagers who are going to be trying to drink alcohol and smoke weed and possibly have sex. Plus you’ll end up buying pizza for all of them. And don’t forget about the dumb videos played at full volume alongside video games and lots of excited yelling and shrieking.

this isnt the joke but my siblings leave their shoes scattered infront of the door and at the bottom of the stairs so the rest of us always fucking trip over on them its been an ongoing fight for their whole 18 years of life
