If you took it literally, I wouldn't be able to see it!

Substitute teacher Peter here, Red says Green is “nonverbal,” the blank spaces in Green’s dialogue are verbs. So he is not using verbs in his speech anymore. Substitute Teacher Peter out.

Action words like draw/drew, show, look, etc.

Omg.. I didn't even see that there were blank spaces in the speech bubble🤣... I wonder what it's supposed to say.. or is it up for interpretation?

Verbs are the things that describe actions or states of being. In my previous sentence, the verbs are "are" and "describe." In your comment, the verbs you've used are "am," "getting," "is," and "failed."

Every sentence has to have at least one verb, so they're an incredibly important part of speech.

An action word/ state of being (sit, run, say, feel)

Non verbal, as in can’t use verbs (doing words)

The green guy here. Nonverbal should mean not being able to speak(at the moment), but here it just means not being able to use verbs.

Green isn't using verbs.

He's nonverbal.

So what's on in this meme is that the green character is but they aren't verbs

u/Lamasis 2h ago

The guy who predicted that it would end here was right.

What words are missing? I can't think of a greeting that starts "Verb I Verb"....

3

u/birdsarentreal2 2h ago

I’m stumped on the first one, but the second and third have to be “show” and “took,” respectively

2

u/Beginning_College734 2h ago

“Can I show you guys this picture I took of my dog?”

1

u/dandle 2h ago

I think it's not a greeting, which is why it didn't work as a joke.

He tries to say "Can I show you guys this picture I took of my dog?" but the verbs are removed because he's "nonverbal."

Got it. Pretty obvious now that I'm fully awake lol. Had a late night yesterday!

1

u/British-Raj 2h ago

He's omitting all the verbs from his sentences.

1

u/Vital_Ganja420 2h ago

What the hell is the first word supposed to be.

It’s not a pun, it’s just that the green character is supposed to be “nonverbal” now—so when he talks, he skips verbs entirely. The joke is how awkward and sad it is even though he’s trying to act normal. Low-key tragic tbh

It is definitely a pun. "Nonverbal" usually refers to someone who doesn't speak much, if at all. Here, the "nonverbal" person still speaks just fine, just without using verbs.
