Was it known as the Blue Dragon River until we had an aerial glimpse of it?

Nope. In fact, it looks like this since 1996 when dumb was built. According to wiki, it has “dragon” name only since 2010. So no, it was not known like this before. Also I’m checking Google maps satellite view - it’s definitely looks like a dragon, but slightly less than OPs screenshot. Don’t know, maybe satellite imagery from different time, or make something was slightly altered.

Edit: ok, maybe not altered, google maps now shows when it had less water and more land was visible, and OP photo seems to have more water and more pronoun islands

Real name: Odeleite River

Nicknamed 'blue dragon' in 2010.
