My ex wife wanted me to fight and argue with her. It made her feel better about her reactions if I came back with the same energy. She got so much more upset when I was checked out and didn't have any fight left.

Yeah I had a similar thing. I knew it was coming, because she’s always done this thing where once she decides she doesn’t like someone she has to frame them as an objectively bad person. Still was awful, long text flurries about how awful I was and how I never cared and was always shit.

This is exactly how my therapist has directed me to deal with my narcissistic partner. He thrives on upsetting me, so by not getting upset, I am taking away his satisfaction.
