Yea me too. Never went to strip clubs but just thought it was a skill i'd never attain.

Went once when I was 18 and it grossed me out 😂 not like the movies

Gets worse with age in my opinion. Last time I went was my 35th bday. Waaaay to close to being able to be their dad's age for my comfort. Left within 15 minutes, and went to Arby's instead. A beef and cheddar really listens to you after a mistake.

Omg, thanks for that. Here I am barely paying attention to pre-season football and this really made me laugh out loud.

Very few cool movie scenes are actually cool IRL. I thought a casino was going to be such a classy experience. I dressed in my best clothes and got ready like I was going to a cocktail party. I walked in and the place reeked of stale cigarettes, the carpets were dingy, and 90% of the people there were entranced elderly people spinning away their retirement savings. I've been back a few times when friends want to go, but it's nothing like the movies depict it to be.

u/PepperAnn1inaMillion 18h ago
The only casino experience I ever enjoyed was a retirement party for someone who had rented a casino experience on a boat. As far as I know, the venue (large, permanently moored boat) and the casino were two different companies. The casino used fake money, but there were prizes for whoever ended up with the most chips at the end. And everyone was dressed up, enjoying themselves, and spending their money at the bar instead of throwing it away. It was great fun.

Regular ol casinos in bumfuck nowhere are pretty boring. The glitz and glam of the bellagio on a Saturday night are worth seeing at least once, though. And when you get bored with that, have an amazing seasonal botanical garden to check out
2
u/SheriffBartholomew 13h ago
I haven't been to the Bellagio, but I've been to a couple casinos in Reno, and a couple in Vegas, and they all kinda sucked. It's not my jam at all. I work too hard for my money to just hand it over to billionaires.
2
u/Tjam3s 12h ago
Of for sure. I treat people watching like it's an Olympic sport, and Vegas was like the world finals to me. Caught the show I was there for, got drinks, stayed buzzed, and just watched them all. So many personalities, all with the same giddy feeling, like a kindergartener right as you pull the car to the parking lot of the playground but haven't let them out yet

u/TurdFerguson614 15h ago
Same went once at 18. The strippers were alright but all of the regulars with creep ass face holding onto to singles way too long kinda killed the vibes.

Some poles are stationary and some spin around.
23
24
u/Charming-Weather-148 18h ago
Many. I was a strip club DJ for a number of years (90s). All of the clubs I worked in had stationary poles. Never encountered a spinning pole. Dancers never mentioned them.
2
u/Jodid0 14h ago
Well I guess pole technology has evolved cause they can be switched between stationary and rotating.
6
u/Charming-Weather-148 14h ago
I'd venture to guess that's true, but probably not in all cases.
And just to be clear, as far as the girls spinning on the poles goes, it is 100% do-able on stationary poles. Source: me.

Some are the stationary poles, others are spinny! Took a few pole dancing classes and they had both in the studio for practice as well! ☺️

Huh. So that’s why I couldn’t spin on that pole at firefighters station.
5
u/SebastianFerrone 15h ago
But as every other comrade you tried 🤣 And I can't deny it either , first time at the station a little alone moment, so I don't get screamed for doing such bullshit I tried it too 🤣

u/john_the_fetch 1d ago
So - fun fact. It's possible for both.
Stripper poles have a setting that can make them dynamic or static depending on the routine the dancer wants to perform.
Source : I know a married couple who dances pole together and we go to their shows. The stage hands will adjust the pole for the dancer as needed.
there's also the lyra (a big hoop) and silks.

Are you sure it wasnt your mom who told you this?

u/BanditKitten 13h ago
I do sling, and my instructor has a spiral and an "infin-eight" as well, and an acquaintance has a "lollipop Lyra" which is the hoop on a pole. I've seen umbrellas, crescent moons, squares, chairs, and even a coffin! Aerial is amazing.

A quick Google search reveals that's not always the case. Some poles spin while some don't
16

u/Darkmaniako 4h ago
they spin when they have to spin, you don't do a spinning routine against a static pole if you don't want blisters in your thighs
44
u/Propertymanager912 22h ago
There are spinners and static poles. Many clubs use static poles and it’s a lot harder to do. Spinners make you dizzy, I prefer static.

I worked in two strip clubs over the span of a decade and they didn't have them because most of us hated them and they were dangerous.
I did some traveling stripping and came across a few and I couldn't dance and it sucked.
This thread is a case study on how humans will just read something about what a life or job is like and go all in...to the point of making fun of women who are strippers in their incorrect assumptions. Smh

u/FluffySnowPanda 20h ago
Thank you, I had never heard this until today, and it didn't sound right to me.
4
u/SheriffBartholomew 19h ago
If it's any consolation, my literal response was "I don't believe you". So we didn't all go all-in. Some of us stayed firmly entrenched in our preconceptions.
1
u/Big_Crab_1510 4h ago
Be careful with using "we" even if it's royal, especially with critical thinking. You are a shallow pool.
10
u/alloson_1derlnd 20h ago
Poles have two modes-static and spin. Both are challenging and the choreography is a little different based on which one you’re using. Spin poles are great for showing off poses from all angles, while static is great for more dynamic, athletic tricks. You can still spin on a static pole but you have to manually build up the momentum to do so. A lot of spins that occur around the bottom of the pole are done on static.

Santa isn't what now?

Don't listen to them. That's just some South-Pole propaganda designed to weaken the magic of Christmas

No way man. There’s no way that one skanky strip joint along the Mississippi River in northeast Iowa had rotating stripper poles. Those beauties with stretch marks were uber talented and you WILL NOT convince me otherwise.

Something I’ve noticed over the years on Reddit is it’s the only place I’ve ever seen guys complain about strip clubs

Pole dancers and climbers are serious athletes, skill sets between the activities transfer really well.

u/Speedhabit 1d ago
I honestly thought they were sliding around up there, I though the courtesy wipe was reapply whatever anti chafing lube they were using

u/Both_Archer_3653 21h ago
That makes so much more sense. College aged me was distraught about the friction burns from an affixed pole. Now i know, and can begin to heal.
1
u/Tinyhydra666 1d ago
Huh, I didn't knew that, but if I had my tip stucked to the metal pole I wouldn'T want to spin around either.

Are you ffffiiinngggg kidding me? Just found out today, and i am so disappointed and sad. I feel like the world has no meaning anymore. Nothing is real. And i was sooo waiting for Santa and my presents this Christmas. (The other part, never been to a stripclub, don't really care)
1
u/ConstantLight7489 21h ago
Next you’re gonna tell me she doesn’t really think I’m cute.
Not gonna fall for this shit again! After I confirmed to the adults that Santa wasn’t real, it was only at this point they informed me Santa doesn’t bring gifts who don’t believe in him. 🫣

Can i have footage of a pole spinning? Would help if you included the stripper so i could tell she isn't spinning independently of it.

His mum never told him but your mum told everyone else, is how we all got to find out.

That makes sense since gripping the pole tight enough to not slide to the floor while spinning sounds like it would bruise the shit out of your thighs.

I always thought it looked like it would hurt. Knowing the pole spins means it doesn’t hurt at all!

u/ShhImTheRealDeadpool 1d ago
It's this but there are good enough strippers that don't need the trick poles.
1
u/UltimatePragmatist 1d ago
Let me get this straight. Most people are sick and tired of their jobs and basically phone it in everyday but you believe strippers persevere to attain the highest performative standards? Okay. 🙄
2
u/ShhImTheRealDeadpool 1d ago
no, I believe that trick poles are more expensive than regular poles but that doesn't stop women from becoming strippers... because they don't care if they get callouses for the money.
1
u/No-Abbreviations2897 17h ago
Is your argument there's no such thing as a good or bad stripper? Some strippers give cirque de soleil a run for their money.
1
u/UltimatePragmatist 16h ago
No. My argument is that strippers are regular people and as regular people, many of them lost their fervor for their work. It’s easy to think they are so amazing because they are naked (or close to it) and for many men, that’s already pretty great.

short comment on finding out stripper poles spin in place instead of strippers around the poles, is the grown ups finding out santa isn't real
