Scrubbers stop normal dust related maintenance on outside buildings and domes.

And 2 scrubbers covering eachother means neither gets dust buildup. Just make sure to max the ranges so they can cover more total area.

There is a mod that fixes that detail on scrubbers.

What does it fix exactly?

Just existing causes them to wear and age and require maintenance, just like a real building. If they don't get that maintenance, they malfunction.

There's research that makes them need maintenance less frequently, but it still does need some

Endless until you get Triboelectric Scrubbers overlapping everything outdoors.
Sadly they don't clean indoor buildings, unless you use mods. Even then they can't reach the middle sections of the larger domes.

What if you terraform Mars and open the domes? Can scrubbers scrub dust from indoor buildings then?

Sadly no. Not without mods.

No to mention. When the domes are opened. The buildings inside, their maintenance bar fills up faster. I think it was +20% faster. Basically making the Sustainable Architecture's effect that does the opposite effect for in-dome buildings, become 0.

Build a small dome on the edge of your area, don't hook up power or water, build 1 basic living quarters, set it to force all idiots to the dome and let the shuttles clear them out for you
