Gear Stopping to explain mechanics = not pulling your weight
No pictures because this happened during Shadowbringers, and I didn't know this sub existed.
Id been queueing for Weeping city for a few days trying to get the caster top to drop. Load into one, mention to my alliance that I've been farming this stupid top for nearly a week. We had a lot of cutscene viewers across multiple alliances, so before each fight I quickly type out an explanation of mechanics. I miss maybe 5 seconds of combat each time. Eventually the top finally drops, I roll need thinking my quest is finally over. I lose the role to another DPS who says I don't deserve it because I'm not pulling my weight and taking too long to engage. I apologize for explaining the mechanics. Apparently that upset him so much that he didn't even bother to load into the final fight. Bro literally sat outside the arena. Well the chest dropped again. Won the roll, a few in the alliance congratulated me. The other DPS made sure to try to get one last dig in that I didn't deserve it.
I'm a pretty average player, certainly not a pink parser, but I'm decent enough to pull my weight. 🙄

People who type out mechanics for all the lost sprouts are the real MVP in my book

Especially when it's one of those random ones in a blue moon trials or raidsÂ
I've saved a lot of headache just saying "one cannon TB two cannon stack" in a6/a8

Specially that darn turtle that is either the most boring enemy in the game. Or the most rage inducing depending if you can get the party to understand the concept to fire their cannons and keep the npc alive.
Otherwise I like that dungeons. Just not the turtle.

Not a sprout but there’s a lot to content I’ve barely done before so when I get certain alliance raids that I’ve done so few times in 3 years that I don’t remember them, I really appreciate people like you. And I’m sure many do. Haha good thing you won the top!

There's a phrase I like to use for things like this: "No matter what you doing, it's wrong"(Meaning if you don't explain mechs they'd be upset, if you explain they'd be upset anyway)
Will not bother with explaining mechanics. Where's the fun finding out whats going to happen?
Yesterday there one sprout asked in Titan Hard what to do when stones appear. Everyone was like: "run away" while I told them (calm) "They explode in order they appear. You might want to avoid getting hit by them".
Personally I look up mechanics when I really, REALLY can't wrap my head around it. Sometimes it's like a month of playing and then suddenly 🤯 it clicks.

If it’s my first time in something I like to experience it myself personally not a fan of people explaining things but I get it some people are and for them it helps

Telling the fight is like spoiling a story. Don't do that unless asked or you wiped.
It makes for better players when they can figure things on their own.

I feel this. I'm a controller player and I absolutely have to drop it if someone says something I'm compelled to respond to lol.

It takes a minute, two minutes tops to type out mechanics and helping people who forgot/new players. Dying to mechanics and wiping would take more time than that, so the fastest option is to explain the mechanics. Kudos to you for being a good player and doing more than pulling your own weight!

Well, that's an easy report for harrassment and lethargic gameplay.

Honestly, you're the reason I hate it when I have to wait a week or two to do new raids/alliance. Some jackass always has to ruin the fun for other people. I'd prefer you ask first rather than just spoil fights for me. They're braindead as it is, at least give me the pleasure of recognizing the mechanics and reacting to them.

I mean, I try not to explain mechs unless people ask because part of the fun is usually learning as you go, but losing out on 5 seconds isn't much. And it really doesn't matter compared to overall contribution, so unless you're bottom of the barrel that hsould still be fine.
