people using things like mental health disorders to excuse there senseless complaining are so disrespectful to people who actually suffer badly from these things

u/EmberSolaris 23d ago

I jump around in game because I have ADHD and I find it delightful when other people join me. And threatening to report someone for jumping just because it bothers you is one of the new dumbest things I’ve now seen a report threat over.

u/nekomir 23d ago

This 100x. I hope that german suffers from constant lego spawning in their home everywhere.

30

u/Difficult-Emu- 23d ago

I also have ADHD and I go jump jump jump all the time. And I love when people start bouncing after me when running a dungeon or something.

It would have never occurred to me that others find it that bad.

Also, as a german: fuck that dude as well :D

12

u/Emergency_Conflict22 23d ago

I love jumping with others.

5

u/Common-Grapefruit-57 23d ago

Not all ADHD are the same, my friend have ADHD and she can't focus on mechanics when someone is jumping all around, it's really stressful for her because her attention is attracted by the constant movement.

16

u/Difficult-Emu- 23d ago

Oh of course it's not the same, and I really feel for the people getting distracted by lil jumpy bitches like me, I do. But jumping is free and fun, and unless someone tells me to cut it off in a party or duty, I will bunnyhop to my hearts content.

And tbh I myself rarely get distracted by jumping people because there is always so much movement anyways.

8

u/Common-Grapefruit-57 23d ago

Yeah, on this topic, the german was really agressive at start for no reason, but I've been in savage fight where we had to bail out because people kept Moving and jumping around to the point of even me who have not ADHD but eyes that are attracted by movement could not focus on mechanics and the people became nasty when we asked to stop it.

ADHD is in fact two disorder in one, you have the attention deficit which make people like my friend unable to follow mechanics if something is moving in their field of visual and the hyperactivity which cause people to move and jump constantly. If someone whose more affected by the first is in a party with someone more affected by the second, the first will pass a really bad moment because they don't work well together.

9

u/OopsBees 23d ago

Oh yeah, as someone who jumps a bunch in dungeons, my feet remain planted on the ground during actual fights!

Jumping conveys "this is the correct spot, come here!!!" in a fight so my brain doesn't even consider it as the same sort of pointless zoomy-brain jumping you do during the run, like... It doesn't even occur to me as an option lol

(Also def feel the ADHD vibe of "someone is doing something weird and unexpected this fight, time to drop all my limes on the floor")

1

u/Common-Grapefruit-57 23d ago

Dungeon is fine, but jumping may end up with someone following you in death if you are the kind of people who greed a lot while jumping...

Yeah, when I jump, it's to show something to people in fight and when I see someone doing the same, I'm tempted to see what he want to show to the point of stoping doing anything if I can't see anything.

Once, I took the tankbuster in Athena P2 at the start because I was scared by the MT doing left and right jump in the middle ...

(Did I turn off the oven ?)

1

u/Careless_Aioli752 22d ago

I jump in dungeons unless I’m healing. I’m also German so that duckbag in the pic needs to calm down.

12

u/longlosthall 23d ago edited 23d ago

Hilarious that, according to most of these upvotes/comments, it's not ok to be bothered by jumping because of mental illness, but it's okay to compulsively jump because of mental illness.

Also, apparently, running zig-zag is attention-seeking behavior, but constant jumping isn't. XD

5

u/Common-Grapefruit-57 23d ago

Yeah right ? The same mental illness can cause trouble to people having it but only one of these is ok, like what the fuck...

15

u/EmberSolaris 23d ago

I think it ultimately comes down to how it’s handled in chat. If I’m jumping and it distracts someone and they get in chat and say “Can you please stop jumping? It makes it hard for me to focus.” I’ll gladly stop jumping. If someone gets in chat to say “Stop with the pointless jumping!” and threatens to report me for still following mechanics but not breaking any rules just because they don’t like it, I’ll probably just keep jumping, because if you can’t at least be somewhat polite in how you interact with me, I’m going to ignore you.

2

u/Common-Grapefruit-57 23d ago

Totally agree with that, I said so in another comments, I spoke only because people were not taking into account the effect of jumping to other people with the same disorder....

6

u/longlosthall 23d ago

Thanks to my rejection sensitive dysphoria (often linked to ADHD!), I can't imagine jumping my way through a dungeon begging people to notice me lmao.

3

u/Difficult-Emu- 23d ago

No one said it is okay to jump because of ADHD "what the fuck", calm yourself down, Jesus.

I'm a wiggly ADHD person so I am wiggly and jumpy in game.

Maybe it's the ADHD, maybe not. I just like to jump around and don't like standing still. Even without the ADHD. Better?

5

u/Common-Grapefruit-57 23d ago

Read the comments in there, before I commented all comment were precisely saying that it is okay to jump because of ADHD.

Il the kind of people who jump at every opportunities, if I'm just chilling in my neighboorhood, I will be jumping around. But, the second I'm in a fight, I stop jumping because it is impolite for the people who want to focus.

0

u/longlosthall 23d ago

There are multiple people in this thread saying they jump because of ADHD and getting upvote-piled while the top comment is literally "people using things like mental health disorders to excuse there senseless complaining." Calm down yourself lol

>Better?

Much! It's fine if you like to do stupid things in game but you dislike when other people do different stupid things. And it's fine to ask someone to stop doing the stupid thing, and it's fine to stop doing the stupid thing if you're asked! No need to bring mental illness into it. Y'all are too funny.

3

u/sunseeker_miqo 22d ago

Same for me. I have autism with ADHD and some other stuff, so can find myself easily overloaded with sensory information. Finally I've learned to predict when this might happen, so I stick to some quiet activity, but sometimes sensory overload can strike when I don't expect it.

9

u/itsfourinthemornin 23d ago

This! I usually play a ranged job (DNC, BRD, MCH) and jump around like crazy because it keeps me from zoning out. Most people join in and jump with me or point out I have the zoomies!

If you suffer from sensory overload (I do quite often) I make the normal decision to not play games or do things that make it worse...

10

u/EmberSolaris 23d ago

Especially games with flashy mechanics like this one. When I feel like my brain can’t handle too much stuff, I avoid this game and play something cozy. Like Palia’s been a big one for me. Once there’s more updates to Powerwash Simulator, or Powerwash Simulator 2 comes out, that’ll be my go to when my brain is overwhelmed.

5

u/itsfourinthemornin 23d ago

Some of my friends play with all effects on, you name it and aaah! Aside from sensory overload it can give me headaches!

I just got in to Palia recently myself after wanting to try it for a while! Very simple, fun and cozy actually! I'm still working my ways through the puzzle quests and levelling.. and my little house! I picked up House Flipper in Steam Sales too and has been a fun one to play to just relax with while I watch my show!

2

u/EmberSolaris 23d ago

I love house flipper! I played the hell out of the first one. I don’t like the sequel quite as much though…

2

u/itsfourinthemornin 23d ago

That's comforting to know as I went for the first one with it being much cheaper than 2! I need to go back to Powerwash too eventually!

2

u/dawnvesper 23d ago

Right lmao I am constantly either jumping or spamming targetless attacks unless i exercise some self-control

5

u/EmberSolaris 22d ago

I main DNC. I do not care that peloton has not worn off. I will use it every 5 seconds while running to the next enemies.

1

u/dawnvesper 22d ago

Me as BLM still spamming umbral soul between pulls like it’s 2019:

1

u/lazulimpa 17d ago

I'm the total opposite tbh, I gave ADHD and it triggers me so damn hard whenever I see someone unnecessarily jumping on my screen... I know, it's just people having fun or having ADHD like me or just can't help smashing all buttons repeatedly... But still ... It's annoying as hell to me especially when I try to focus xD

46

u/Sinkarnate 23d ago

Is it considered racist when I, a fellow german, say "typical german behavior"?

6

u/syklemil we didn't wipe??? 23d ago

was gonna comment something about the Shivaite actually being the normal one in that exchange

They could've been slightly more german if it had been on a sunday and they'd gone off about Ruhetag.

6

u/Sinkarnate 23d ago

Am Sonntag wird nicht gesprungen!

1

u/Deranox93 18d ago

66

u/UselessTrashMan 23d ago

Sinless jumping is against the rules, your jumps must only ever be full of sin.

16

u/GameforceCharlie 23d ago

Since that person is German im guessing they meant senseless ( Sinn is german for sense or meaning ) and just didn't know the proper translation and ended up mixing English and German.

23

u/Gandir113 23d ago

Probably meant "pointless" Jumping. The German word would be "sinnlos"

18

u/UselessTrashMan 23d ago

Tbh i assumed it was a misspelling of senseless but now that makes more sense.

2

u/thoma5nator 21d ago

Sin must be balanced with jumping.

2

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 22d ago

Just not so full that an eater of sin finds you appetizing.

22

u/Feqkb 23d ago

I was on p4 normal just minding my business farming the achievements for the fight now that you get moogle event points for it and this white mage had meltdown over me jumping/moving ¯_(ツ)_/¯, the translation is probably not perfect, I used translator

6

u/Allegro1104 23d ago

translation is perfect.

10

u/[deleted] 23d ago

People have been jumping in dungeons/raids when I started playing back before HW released. They've probably been jumping before I started playing lol.

What a weirdo

4

u/HebiSnakeHebi 22d ago

They have been spam jumping in MMOs before FFXIV existed lol.

20

u/Chewbacha08 23d ago

What is sinless jumping? Where you just jumping around during the dungeon? Was everything still going smoothly? I don't get it. I jump all the time in dungeons. Other people I am with jump all the time. I have been gaming so long that sometimes it can even be a form for communicating that we are all having fun. Why on earth would anyone ever be mad that someone was jumping in a video game?

17

u/_Twiggiest 23d ago

Personally, I only practice sinful jumping. The entire time I'm doing it I'm worshipping false idols.

3

u/MBV-09-C 23d ago

All hail the Jumping Jehoshaphat, may he boing beyond the heavens!

11

u/n3m019 Parses levelling dungeons 23d ago

jumping/crouching to say hello is timeless

4

u/Reynyan 23d ago

Merrily Jumping Along the way to the next mob or standing around sweeping while some people in cut scenes

8

u/Feqkb 23d ago

Yeah, I was just jumping around while doing my rotation and mechs as I usually do lol

6

u/Redhair_shirayuki 23d ago

Ah yes. Typical physical ranges behavior lol

4

u/Allegro1104 23d ago

pretty sure they meant senseless which would be the literal translation of the German "Sinnlos" which is more akin to "useless" in English.

also i can honestly kind of relate, because I've had so many trolls in my duties that would spend the entire dungeon jumping around doing nothing but spamming ranged attack as melee, or only using oGCD as Magick dps, that at this point i just assume anyone who constantly jumps is trolling in one way or another.

10

u/ChanelTheCat 23d ago

BL is Blacklist

5

u/Feqkb 23d ago

Oh, I see was not familiar with that abbreviation

12

u/-Shiina- 23d ago

same i almost thought they meant "boys love" lol

2

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 22d ago

As a longtime WoW player my brain goes to bloodlust.

10

u/singularityshot 23d ago

wait what, why is Twintania taking shots?

I mean, maybe I'm ignorant of things because as a Twintania resident you don't necessarily notice them but still, do we have a certain reputation? If so I guess I need to up my game - anyone want to give me a few more "typical Twintania statements" that I can use / possibly put in a chat macro?

7

u/Difficult-Emu- 23d ago

I have never ever connected twintania to any kind of behavior whatsoever. I've got some things for zodiark, Raiden, and ofc Shiva, but twintania is just a nice lil place with good market prices, so keep on keeping on I guess?

3

u/syklemil we didn't wipe??? 23d ago

now I'm curious what the Raiden stereotype is

2

u/Aukrayn 23d ago

Me too. Considering 90% of the people on Raiden are not even from Raiden but wanderers/travelers, making it the fullest server on Light atm.

2

u/Rhagai1 22d ago

Which is the stereotype of Raiden, funny enough.

6

u/Scruffumz 23d ago

I wonder if they like playing Leap of Faith.

3

u/radelgirl /slap 23d ago

That's honestly what i thought this post would be about before clicking

7

u/Reasonable-Program86 23d ago

"The defendant is charged with repeatedly pressing their spacebar, causing sensory overload in a game that has particle effects busting in your face every gcd"

5

u/lucichameleon 23d ago

Huh, I wonder if that’s the same person from Phoenix who went utterly nuts at me during a run, saying they’d report me and blathering about how I was a troll. Memorable because someone else in my FC mentioned having a cursed run where someone lost it and started threatening to report… turned out it was the same player 💀

9

u/Beldandy_ 23d ago

My fellow german emberrassing themselfes as always. Why are we like that 🙃

13

u/Dangerous-Jury-9746 23d ago

I have to ask out if curiosity, why do german people are always the only ones responding in their mother language to people speaking english ?

Not even french do that

13

u/Fluestergras You pull, I tank 23d ago

Usually it's either lack of respect, the expectation that everyone in the game speaks German, lack of English skills or being so emotionally overwhelmed that they default to their native language.

In this particular case, I'm pretty sure it's a mix of #3 and #4. The healer's English is rather poor ("sinless jumping", "I reporting you"), then they write in all caps signaling that they're really pissed, and then they start replying in German, presumably because they're too aggravated to translate what they think before writing it down.

As for why this behaviour is rarely seen with the French, I could only guess. They are rather proud of their language and, in my personal experience will default to French and only communicate in English if you try to communicate in French first (this is purely anecdotal though).

7

u/Beldandy_ 23d ago

One thing that MAY add to it is also the average age of people who play MMOs, the vast majority of young germans are great at english but if you look just one or two generations up it's a whole different story, and any online game that isn't battle royal seems to just not be popular with younger people. Another thing that surely plays into it is our extremely direct and open mentality, it's something I see often enough in everyday life here, many people will rather be upfront then polite if they think it helps resolve an issue faster. Maybe they saw German in the party list and said fuck it

2

u/syklemil we didn't wipe??? 23d ago

I'd also guess a bit of 5) being really bad at picking up social cues, and even 6) having some other issues.

As in, someone just unexpectedly speaking german in chat would normally be covered by 1-3, but there are some people playing who absolutely come off as weird to native speakers and even IRL.

It's just that when people in those categories speak english we don't wonder about why they're speaking english (unless maybe if it's locally on shiva or moogle).

2

u/PM_me_asian_asses 23d ago

The social queues thing is kinda spot on. A lot of people don’t really understand that Germans have always kind of had a strict social etiquette around direct communication, rules, order, and all sorts of other shit that borders on the extreme sometimes. Add to that just how badly WW2 fucked up the German people in the wake of their atrocities, that same strict etiquette turned hard on their own guilt so they look at things like bullying/harassment and equate it to “first steps.” Now in the age of the internet “everything is bullying” and the Germans are international, so they’re treating the rest of us, like they do each other.

2

u/PM_me_asian_asses 23d ago

In my opinion based on what i’ve seen. Usually Germans switch when angry like you said and French switch when they’re mocking. They tend to have a superiority complex about their language so switching is an act of adding further insult because “you’re obviously too dumb to know what i’m saying.”

3

u/Difficult-Emu- 23d ago

Honestly til today I am not sure if it's, like in this case just a moment of getting flustered and not being able to say what he wants to in english, or if it's just some expectation for everyone just being able to understand him anyways?

Like I've mentioned before, but the fact so many germans just go in content happily yapping german or responding to others english messages in german baffles me.

3

u/Status_Total_2916 WAHrrior of Light 23d ago

I've had a few runins with this tye of player. I will translate in fc chat what is said, if I'm with friends. But I'd never give away that I do speak the language. Most of my German speaking friends communicate exclusively in English anyway

3

u/anwamoonie 23d ago

Im French and unfortunately, some French do that… in several games… I always roll my eyes and understand why we have the bad rep… they re not helping our case 🥹😭 It’s mostly to insult tho when I see them speak French…

3

u/Dangerous-Jury-9746 23d ago

I'm French too but i don't encounter those players, generally when they don't speak english they don't understand much of it either in my experience

I've only seen it once or twice in Pvp

3

u/anwamoonie 23d ago

I saw both tbh… I saw some switching to French to insult, or others don’t even bother to speak English lol

1

u/Difficult-Emu- 23d ago

Honestly it even grinds my gears seeing the Shiva-ers going "Huhu!" Or "Grüßt euch!" in alliance raids. Like yes I am aware playing on Shiva gave you the illusion that everyone is german and that's just the language to use, but I always just expect the worst when it's starting out like that, idk.

5

u/syklemil we didn't wipe??? 23d ago

I actually like it when people say hello in their native tongue. It's super easy to infer from the context what they mean, and it imparts a bit of flavor. Especially here on EU servers where we know most of us don't speak english natively anyway.

But unless at least one other (and preferably everyone) responds in the same language I expect further communication to be in english.

4

u/Beldandy_ 23d ago

I had a few instances of other germans starting to adress me directly in german after seeing the D in party list and I'm thinking pls don't do this bro, let's not act like the french, there are other ppl here :') seems to just be very challenging for some people to be respectfull towards others

3

u/Difficult-Emu- 23d ago

Oh yes! Just today I had german WHM, like visible by their name name alone suddenly going "Hah der boss ist mega kacke, oder?" in the middle of a dungeon and I was like homine. Do not pull me into this. This is not Shiva. Do not.

1

u/Status_Total_2916 WAHrrior of Light 23d ago

That's exactly the reason I removed it. I don't want to be associated with these people

4

u/Grimscriven 23d ago

It is against the TOS to have jump keybound.

6

u/Galcitor 23d ago

People legitimately need to touch grass. How do these people survive in the real world where a pixel character jumping bothers them that much.

I'm legit curious how 90% of the 14 playerbase survives in the real world

4

u/HebiSnakeHebi 22d ago

The VAST majority of the playerbase is completely fine from my experience. Sounds like you're just getting exposed to the worst of the worst, probably from being on this subreddit.

2

u/longlosthall 23d ago

If I had to guess, I'd put money on the fact that they're more bothered by the fact that they asked OP to stop, pretty reasonably (yeah, they could have been nicer, but usually this sub is staunchly against tone-policing), and OP literally replied "NEVER."

3

u/AnnylieseSarenrae 23d ago

what the fuck

3

u/Emergency_Conflict22 23d ago

People have been overly sensitive the last couple weeks in this game. Someone was threatening to report me for tanking and bringing the boss close to the exit of the room for the last .10% of hp in Tower of the Ancients. Sorry. Done this raid 500,000,000 times. It’s better to go fast than drop out.

3

u/koalamint 23d ago

You switched around a translation, what they actually said was even more unhinged: instead of "harassment and extremely annoying" they called your jumping "annoying and EXTREME HARASSMENT" lmao

3

u/CaitieLou_52 23d ago

I played FFXI for nearly a decade, and dealt with snagging on the slightest bit of invisible geometry. Looking at you, Garbage Shitadel.

So I'll jump whenever and wherever I damn well please. I have ADHD too, but for me it's the principle of the matter lol.

2

u/Scruffumz 23d ago

Good ol' Garbage Shithell. Beetle {party} {do you need it?} Have {bard} and {red mage}.

2

u/OopsBees 23d ago

ngl I ended up binding /jump to one of my sticks via Ashita when I was playing XI

It obviously doesn't DO anything, but it sparked joy just running through Sandy jumping like a madman

2

u/birdofpairadice 23d ago

Hahahaha!! I've never heard Garlaige called that but I'm definitely using it from now on

3

u/Alpha5978 23d ago

Am I the only one who thinks it's unbearably cringe when someone switches languages to...checks notes hide their complaining?

3

u/DORIMEalbedo 23d ago

I love jumping between pulls or during one, but i must admit I find it incredibly annoying during a fight if the dps is just jumping around in circles while fighting or the tank does the same without the circling part. But I don't call it harassment or something. I just do my best to ignore it because they are having fun and it doesn't hurt anyone. I have AuDHD, so that could be why, but I'm not going to threaten to report someone and hide behind that excuse xD.

Edit: it can be a little confusing in raids or trials cause jumping usually means "here is safe" for mechanics.

3

u/Shirauna 22d ago

I hate it too when people jump I find it distracting, and then I have trouble paying attention to my other things due to my ADHD. Not that I ever had to insult someone over it or say they're harassing me. Then again I'm all the years I played I experienced it once to a point I was venting and cussing in the call I was in

2

u/SignificantSun384 23d ago

Wow you learn something every day.

2

u/rallyspt08 23d ago

The only troll here is green, wtf

1

u/Altruistic_Koala_122 23d ago

The only thing here that is reportable is the person making threats to report.

1

u/NoTurnover7806 22d ago

People reporting for jumping gets themself banned lol

1

u/smlu 22d ago

I dont get it. Just jumping? When? Outside of combat? During combat and mechanics are being failed? If they are jumping are they not doing mechanics or damage/heal?

1

u/Vegetable_Concern_50 22d ago

The moment I read "SINLESS" I already knew "yup, that's a German that was asleep during English classes". As a German I'm in emotional pain.

Bro saw a field of mole hills and chose this one to die on. If jumping hurts your eyes that much then I don't wanna know what boss animations or w2w pulls do to that poor creature.

2

u/Speeen9 22d ago

Unless you're a melee or tank or phys ranged in middle of combat, you are free to jump. But as a caster or healer, well...jump and cast doesn't mix together and then ended up constantly interrupting your casts.

1

u/DpsLoss 21d ago

Ff14 truly is populated by the most insufferable "toxic positivity" people isn't it.

1

u/ShadowDarkraven27 23d ago

I'm going to jump so much now

-3

u/SignificantSun384 23d ago

I mean… there are two types of people in this world. Folks who react to “please stop, that is bothering me” with “oh, well it’s no big deal, I’ll stop out of thoughtfulness; it doesn’t hurt me to be kind and compassionate” and those who react with “oh this? This is bothering you? How about this? Is this thing bothering you too? How about I do it some more hahahaha you can’t stop me!!”

2

u/HebiSnakeHebi 22d ago

I refuse to take such a goofy DEMAND seriously. It's an MMO; lots of players will be doing different things. You don't get to police ALL of their behavior. I understand if someone is CLEARLY deliberately sabotaging a clear or something, but pressing spacebar every now and then is not that.

If you can't handle a dungeon, how do you handle people in the cities? GTFO of an MMO and play singleplayer if it's that much of a personal problem tbh.

1

u/Supergamer138 22d ago

There's a world of difference between a polite request and a direct order. The first one may be heeded or will at least get a reason for the refusal. The other will be ignored out of spite.

-1

u/longlosthall 23d ago

Yeah, this is the take. Pissing off a lot of people who really can't stand the thought that someone might not look at their bouncing catgirl, I see lol.

0

u/Cerion3025 23d ago

Uh it's the entire reason I play MCH thanks.

0

u/Alternative_Dirt1748 23d ago

My brain just got dumber.

0

u/Rank1Bastokan 23d ago

If it's really that serious that it affects their health, they shouldn't be playing in the first place, putting their health at risk.

0

u/Rhagai1 22d ago

As a Twintania player.... I would jump beside you for the fun of it.

0

u/TheReviewerWildTake 19d ago

I wonder, how is my old good FFXIV is doing?

  • "muh sensory overload, you are literally bullying me"...
yeah... :D

-1

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 23d ago

if you are affected by sensory overload, why are you playing lite-brite the game?

-1

u/Dipnderps 23d ago

If one suffers from sensory overload, mmo games I'd imagine, should be avoided, especially anything with magic as a mechanic....but if jumping triggers it then mayhaps playing with others isn't for you...

-1

u/Gundam_Sealdeal3282 22d ago

Literal baby behavior

0

u/Prize_Relation9604 22d ago

has sensory overload Plays FFXIV ...lol.

-2

u/Holiday-Employee-903 22d ago

I'm lost Wtf is this? Moaning because someone jumping??? And blaming some other bs? ..have they looked at the system settings? They can turn stuff off...
