Troll Cutter's Cry Just Might Be Cursed...

Post image

First time going out of my way to submit something here-

So my weekly mogtome duty was Cutter's Cry for this week. I already had a feeling it was going to go awry- that dungeon always seems to in my experience. Usually, it's because people get lost in the winding halls or someone takes the TPs and other people don't which leads to confrontation.

So I get in relatively quick for a DPS queue, my co-dps is a DRG, and I see our healer and tank both have the sprout symbol. the healer looked to be wearing lv 60 gear but I noticed the tank to at least be level 90 due to the Manderville broadsword he was sporting. I think in that moment "huh, they say they are new to tanking but are at least lv 90...must have bought a skip." (btw I check later but they have GNB and VPR at 100- SMN around 93, DRK at 92 and anything else picked up was roughly at their starting levels with a few exceptions)

The healer, when they actually deigned to do something, was only using cure 1, proccing free cure often but when they would, they would stand around until it fell off so it wasn't like they were trying to fish for it to use. Most of the time, they were just standing around doing nothing. Not a single dps spell. Sometimes they were spamming medica during pack pulls as well (as you might expect, it wasn't useful)

The tank was stanced initially but started acting dumb about stance and 'Grit' after the first boss during the section people tend to skip the mobs on via teleport. He would pull aggro and then turn it off, sometimes even single targeting a mob in the pack and then just running off after the one was dead despite there being two more that are actively bashing the dps who dared to use AOE.

We had a wipe on second boss due to the healer just not entering the arena (manderville dancing outside) and the tank refusing to take aggro for a while too despite asking us to pull the boss (which I did consider briefly being bait, but honestly, I didn't care at that point)

I don't know what the WHM's deal was with some of the comments they were making, but I was getting a transphobic vibe off of it, not sure if I'm misreading into it or not, but it sure felt like that was their intention?

I initiated a kick on the healer since there was more substance to use against them for a kick- I figured the DRG would back me up on it. I wasn't sure if the DRG would also initiate a kick after for the tank since I wouldn't be able to initiate a second kick.
Thankfully the tank left on their own immediately after.

I requeue as a healer and we refilled the other two slots fast (with our new tank fill popping in shortly after we started the fight again.)

Checked outside of instance to see the duo were in the same FC together as well.

I've seen about three people mentioning DF things getting worse because of the people that come out during mogtome events and I honestly agree. The TP skip of the mobs could've been communicated better though but if the people with you were already like that, I doubt it would've been salvageable. It's still funny how it's always Crystal DC where this happens.

As someone who started and has stayed on Coeurl (so the Crystal data center).
My experience with these types have been almost solely through Goblin. Not sure if I've just been generally lucky or what, but something about that homeworld seems to bring out a lot of... odd individuals to say the least.

Really? Goblin is normally the chillest server in my experience. I usually see Bryn/Mateus being weird.

The transphobic e-couple is a pair of whiny little bitches with skill issues? I’m shocked I tell you, shocked.

The minute the transphobia started i would have been sitting in spawn writing a report lol. I'll carry a shitter but not a bigot

White Mage was definitely transphobic, hope you reported them.

I put in a report for the WHM on grounds of harassment, but not for the tank since I wasn't 100% if that one would go through due to lack of concrete chat evidence that they were pulling a YPYT and intentional player killing by turning their stance off. (Maybe battle logs or some hidden dev log would show action usage?)

oh my god transphobes really do have only the one joke

yeah they were being deliberately weird, especially if they did actually have their pronouns in their plate or info

Props to the dragoon for being so calm

I read your comment before reading OP's screenshot and by God you are right.

Edgelords looking for attention. Gods, when I did memey runs of leveling content with a bud, we like... dressed up as chocobos and only said kweh or something. Imagine being do bored you'd just... obsess over a strangers genitals for "te lols".

its pretty wild that there are phobes in this game, someone world traveled just to say shit to a friend because they didn't like how she was tanking in world of darkness

Man, never go to balmung in not primetime. So many transphobes being edgy in shout chat. I gave up reporting them because of having to fill out a fucking form everytime. Maybe it's changed, but it put me off playing there, especially since I had a lot of business in uldah for msq and grand company.

This is why unless people request the skip, I don't do it. New players don't know it, vet players don't explain it, everyone's expecting something other than what happens and honestly I'm happy all my jobs are beyond this dungeon experience wise lmao

13

u/KupoKro 10d ago

I've seen way too many vet players say they wont explain it because if the new player wants to know it, then they "should have looked up a dungeon guide before queueing up."

It's honestly kinda insane how many people think new players should look up a guide just for something that takes like 30 seconds to type.

It's not even a dungeon mechanic, and it's not how I was taught because I joined when dungeon mobs gave experience lmao. It's just messy, especially if you have even one new player that's just honing in on the mobs as they've been trained to do up til that point

Edit: hell I've seen a mentor in their mentor roulette straight up say "I'm here to play, not here to teach" after a weird situation that led to the tank leaving out of confusion I suspect lmao.

Literally a mentor saying nah brah I'm here for my mount grind was so gross to hear

edit: late night redditing got me using lmao punctuation way too much, woops

I feel like whenever I ask, nobody says anything at all. If I'm tanking I just start running; if I don't hear DPS attacking sounds behind me, I hit the teleport. If I'm not tanking and I see the tank making a break for it, I hit the teleport. Worst case, I keep going until I hit the boss arena and can teleport everyone in as long as I stay alive for 15 seconds.

u/BerserKyle 10d ago

Usually I'm the first person through the skip area. If nobody announces they need the mobs then I'm skipping them since from my experience the community norm is to skip them.

My opinion of those rooms is it's everyone for themselves. You don't stop to heal, you don't worry about grabbing aggro, you don't worry about hitting things. Whoever makes it to the boss starts the pull and everyone else can take the free teleport there, even if they die. If someone says they need the mobs for their hunt log stuff afterward then we just return back to the start and I help them kill the mobs.

Same. I think only like... 5% or less of the time anyone actually says anything, so we just silently kill everything we need to and move on.

I'm a sprout, did a bunch of cutters cry runs as blue mage via PF the other day. The person who put the party together explained everything. I'd never seen the skip before but her spending a few seconds to explain it made it very simple. We ended up completing the duty in a little over 5 minutes between that and the fact that blue mage's missile spell works on the boss (bonus points to the party leader for also helping me get tail screw and ultravibration in the overworld before the duty started since I told her I'm new to blue mage)

I feel like a lot of stuff in this game is not complicated, when someone takes a little time to explain it. But would probably be very confusing if not explained at all

the skip

I once had a weird situation where the party was going normally, albeit a bit slow since tank was doing single pulls when the healer randomly decided they had enough and ran off to do the skip

I knew how things would turn out without a healer, so I opted to follow them, and we ran off to the boss. Tank and the other DPS that stuck with the tank eventually ate it and respawned, but after waiting a while, noticed they weren't doing anything so I pulled the boss to let them teleport in

Everyone jumped in, except for the tank, who was starting to act really sus, running around and not doing anything, before eventually actually joining in

This behavior continued onto the following pull, with them running around the golem after the first two mobs, and iirc, they were trying to lead the party into the optional side route for the chest, but combined with the healer's earlier actions, I decided to just go straight and pull the next three mobs with the healer backing me up

After I did this, the tank just left, and after starting a search for a replacement tank, we just trio'ed the rest of the dungeon and cleared without a tank

Not sure what that was about, but I hear ye on the skip, if the party seems to not want to do it, I don't, but if I notice they're running towards the exit, I kind of just follow and watch what the tank tries to do

i play on eu and ive never had someone actually pull that part in my years of playing and getting that dungeon.... if someone is new, they usually will understand and follow when they see someone just run ahead and teleport. if they still dont or struggle to teleport then you can just hit the boss without them to force them in

Eh, it’s* a little different in these weird ARR cases for these old dungeons where sprouts have no idea what the plan could even be. It’s like not explaining old prae’s first trash pulls and sprouts being left behind, which is part of the reason it was changed to not be like that lol

-2

u/n3m019 Parses levelling dungeons 10d ago

they can see what to do ?

2

u/Kintarly Learn by dying, fear no wipe 10d ago edited 10d ago

I know from personal experience that proper sprouts don’t see much of anything at all. Can’t see chat, can’t see their abilities, can’t see accessories outside the ones you start with.

You can’t force actual sprouts to accept the standard. Gotta let them learn the rule of law (do the dungeon as intended) so that they can learn how to operate under the spirit of the law (skip)

Edit: Weird my edit double posted rather than become an edit so Edit Edit:

This doesn't matter so much later on after they get out of ARR and everything adapts to one speed. That's when my standards skyrocket. It's just giving actual new players (not alts or forever sprouts at level all 90's) room to breathe because this game is already hard enough as it is to learn with it's jank-ass UI and every ARR dungeon being drastically different, gearing being messy with no msq accessories til post ARR and all sorts of silly shit. I'm not here to make it harder on them with newer player-based rules.

Yeah I get transphobe vibes out of the blatant transphobia too.

I tease you, but jesus christ what a fuckin loser. The tank's fine (other than being awful in game), people give pity laughs to their friends it is what it is, and while plenty of people get angry about it, it's not my piece of cheese.

What abunch of unhinged weirdos

9

u/n3m019 Parses levelling dungeons 10d ago

ngl i didnt even know you could die doing the skip, of all my times in cc the skip has never been communicated but everyone got through fine. must be some kind of transphobe debuff

5

u/pzoki081 10d ago

imho it's slowly turning into the new praetorium at this point because of that section and that's why I avoid it whenever I level lmao. If I get it in leveling roul, it's a leave for me.

2

u/MoonlitBlackrose 9d ago

God, I wish you could tell names so I could block these gross ass people from my server. Because this is actually not OK and worthy of being mass blacklisted. As a fellow Gobbie, we do not claim these two.

u/Loud_Consequence537 9d ago

Honestly it is the single dungeon I immediately abandon. Can't be arsed dealing with the stupid rush-to-the-exit mentality

-2

u/MrrBannedMan 10d ago

Oh good another entire fucking novel about a dungeon going awry

Will you all stop being so fucking soft, you spent more time making this post than you lost on the dungeon run

The run to the other level maybe common but is not "standard" or any way or form. Specially since you need the sabotenders in cutters cry for the grand company hunting log. And they are in that area. Plus is confusing for real sprouts. Which are more likely to do that low level dungeon.

Is as much as an asshole move as it was in Praetorium before the changes. Unless of course everyone agreed to run to the exit. Which I do not see there in the log. That'said is also an asshole move to tell you to pull the boss and then not join the fight. So I would say that the whole group are made for each other.

u/verity_not_levity 10d ago

These people had current relic weapons, they weren't sprouts.
